metajake got a reaction from CLC in What's with the tool-toggling?!
Regardless of individual perception of this "feature", it remains confusing, jarring and frustrating for many page layout software users.
    My analogy (which I've explained before  https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/56697-type-tool-to-move-tool-hotkey/&do=findComment&comment=289576 ) ...
goes something like: If I'm working at my desk, and I reach for my pencil (use hotkey), should I have to look closely to make sure that my pencil is in my hand, and not my pen or scissors? No.
In my mind, hotkeys primary purpose is speed. You reduce the speed by requiring me to keep track of which tool is chosen by a single hotkey.

metajake got a reaction from Klababa in Type tool to Move tool Hotkey
Even after assigning a different hotkey to the "Move" tool, it still toggles between Move and "Last Used Tool". Not to sound ungrateful, and it's nothing personal, but this Tool Toggling "feature" is annoying and distracting.

In real life, if I know exactly where my pencil is, and I reach for it, should I have to look closely at the pencil, and make sure that it's not the paintbrush? No. Hotkeys should function the same way. Reaching for my Move Tool should always give me my Move Tool, and reaching for my Text Tool should always give me my text tool.

I think that Affinity is asking too much of their users to expect them to maintain awareness of which Tool they are toggled between.
EITHER THAT, OR there should be a much more apparent indication of what tool that I am toggled between. Yes the "Contextual Toolbar" at the very top of the window changes, as well as the "Status" bar at the bottom of the window, but I'm not looking close enough at them to register, fast enough, which Tool I'm using. (But maybe that's just me).

You can also change the units from the Context toolbar when the View Tool (hand) is selected. Quicker than going into the Document menu.

    Hi yeshua20,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
It's not yet possible to distort/warp text in Affinity Designer. A Mesh warp/distort tool is already on Affinity Designer's roadmap to be implemented later.

I notice you can transform a selection using the Transform panel, which is good, but I agree it would be great if we could transform selected paths/nodes with the cursor.

    Hi Dams,
You can do that already. Just copy (ctrl+c) the object with the style/effects you want and then go to Edit -> Paste Style or press shift+cmd+v
All the effects applied to the source object will be copied over to the new object.

    Hi p_mac,
Change the Mode dropdown to Absolute Dimensions in the context toolbar and you should be able to change the units.

    Hi, p-mac,

With the Crop Tool selected switch the Mode to Absolute Dimensions, you can then change the Unit to inches.

    Hope this helps.

metajake reacted to stephentuso in Material design asset pack
Here is a collection of assets created from the material design sticker sheet obtained here: https://material.google.com/resources/sticker-sheets-icons.html

Could use a little more work, but I've added constraints to the lists, UI bars, and tabs. Most of the shadows are currently bitmaps. I had issues with some text boxes becoming the wrong size when the group was turned into an asset, so artistic text is used in some places where a text frame would be more appropriate.

I couldn't find a license anywhere for the sticker sheet, so feel free to modify and share or use however you want, however, please don't redistribute as an asset pack while charging a price (sharing for free is fine).

If you want to share any changes/improvements, I'd appreciate it if you posted them to this thread.

An example I quickly made with some of the assets is below.

I am an architect. Affinity Designer might be a nice software and I have bought it as soon as I could. But without the opportunity to select the same:

Color fill stroke (color / width) it is absolutely useless for my professional work. Any idea if and when it will be implemented?

I had high hopes, when i started to read the thread.
I thought: "good, somebody requested this in 2014. Now it's the end of 2016. For sure it's implemented right?" ... later on the pages: "oh, it's on the road-map, great!"
    Got disappointed when reached end.
Come on. It's almost 3 years.
Extremely important time saving feature. I feel lost without it. Really needed.

This is a huge need specially when dealing with existing, imported works.
The ability to change thousand of elements attributes in one click cannot be counter argued :)
This is one of the extremely rare case I still have Illustrator installed on my Mac Pro, what a pain…

This feature is much needed… Coming from Illustrator this is the command I miss the most.
How would you adjust fill / stroke / stroke weight / etc. in a complex document?

metajake reacted to Aammppaa in "Clear Selection" part of Undo/Redo Stack?
Not an answer to your question, but I have always worked the other way around when I like where I am, but want to compare with where I was…
Copy the object. Go back through history to earlier state. Paste object. Compare the two. Alternatively: look into Snapshots https://affinity.help/designer/en-US.lproj/index.html?page=/DesignAids/snapshot.html?title=Using snapshots
Make a snapshot of where you are now. Go back in History to find earlier state. Copy object in its earlier state. Restore the Snapshot. Paste the object. Or even…
Make snapshot of now. Go back in History. Make a snapshot of then. Toggle at will between the two! Hope one of these helps with your workflow.

Great suggestions Aammppaa. I do agree with metajake in principle though, that non-destructive actions (like deselecting an object) shouldn't be added to undoable history. Without thinking too hard about how or where this catches me out, I know it does from time to time. As I said on metajake's other post:
"Some people may remember that with InDesign CS3, Adobe started including non-destructive actions (switching to preview mode, showing and hiding guides, etc) in the undo/redo stack, and it was a nightmare. People hated it, and Adobe restored the previous behaviour. In Adobe apps, I like that the relevant selection comes back when you undo or redo."
The Adobe behaviour provides the best of both worlds I think… You can safely deselect an object without losing redos, but if you do undo or redo, you get your selection back.
