First of all, thanks alot for updates
It would be really awesome to implement cryptomatte support in near future. Something like this: automatic generation of selection mask layers based on cryptomatte data in OpenEXR files as well as filtering of cryptomatte data layers when opening files.

When rendering an image in 3d software (Modo in my case) you can render a depth map instead of adding dof in the 3d software. This is a workaround to save a lot of rendering time.
Normaly you apply the depth map in Photoshop in the lens blur filter so you can add real depth of field. In affinity I miss this option.

Also in Photoshop it is possible to generate bump and normal maps. This is not a complex alchoritm. I think you can get a whole lot more users (3d market) to integrate these options in Photo.

I'm so excited on the Synology forum someone recommended File Browser.  I was trying to browse my Synology NAS and drop files directly onto a Focus stack.  Just couldn't do it.  Had to use a PC and go NAS to iCloud... wait.....iCloud to iPad..... wait...... iCloud to Affinity Photo iPad wait......

With FileBrowser I just browsed to the files location directly on the NAS and used IOS11 drag and drop straight into an Affinity Photo Focus stack. Boom done.  I have also connected my Mac, PC, iCloud too.

The App is just epic and will be even more useful when Affinity Designer Drops.

I'm using Photo for iPad a couple of months now. And the last few weeks also for bigger projects. I only used the desktop version for color correction.

With all the masking and matte painting I think it is really annoying I can't reach some functions with my left hand (thumb). If I mask I switch a lot between foreground and background colors. On a keyboard I use X (and D te reset them to black and white). I miss this completely in Photo for iPad. I always have to select a color by using the color selecter. That's nog so good for a fast workflow. So I prefer the button on the left at the ui. Also transferring the undo button to the left would me sooooooo great.

And maybe, you can set this as an option for the left hand users...

Congrats, this is so great. I'm feeling guilty.... I paid to less... your apps are sooooo good (after working with photoshop since '96) I would pay much more for it! I'm going to buy Designer, just to support you guys. I really hope Affinity gets more popular so you business can grow and develop more! Again, thumbs up! You make my job more fun and easier (really I just edited a portrait composition with a lot of layers on y couch!!!)

    Hello everyone, hello Affinity team,

first of all, I love your software - its awesome! Using it for Mac and the iPad

Their is a small thing, that would improve your software  - its about the freehand selection tool.    Can you "steal" the idea from  the ProCrate app for the iPad?  How their freehand selection tool works?

Their selection tool is pretty cool. You can stop the selection if you lift of the pen, BUT if you put the pen again on the iPad, then it connects the points where you ended and were you started again. If you are ready with the selection, you can double tip on a little circle on the beginning of the selection, so its closes the selection.

So the hole selection part becomes very easily.

I´m not an native speaker, so I hope I could make the idea clear- in my opinion this is the perfect freehand selection tool, because you can take breaks and don't have to do the hole selection in one hand gesture or to refine it the hole time with selection/selection again and again.

Maybe you could look at the ProCreate App to understand what I mean. I think this little feature would be a big improvement.

Have a nice day - you guys and girls are doing great work!!!! <3

Oh and their is one last thing- could you change that you have so save the selections on the iPad version on an extra channel? That is pretty unwieldy .
I would love it, if you just can do a thing like "command+click" like on the desktop version. Or just tip on the layer and hold for a sec. to make a selection- that would be pretty cool.

The current setup is pretty unusable... holding down a modifier on the bottom centre of the screen is completely unnatural and it makes you have to switch between panes to access the other settings.

The modifiers need to be on the left or right side depending on what had you use.

The only thing I disagree on is the need for a spacebar modifier. I just enable that setting so that your fingers don't activate the tool your using, so your fingers always do panning and zooming, works great.

In this latest beta, modifier keys have been added to certain tools. While it's a good try, it's not ideal. First, let's take the brush tool as an example. You can now use the pick color button while dragging the pencil to select a color. The problem is, when doing things like frequency separation where you need to constantly change color and size of brush, it gets pretty cumbersome switching through the menus each time. What we need are permanent command keys that work with any tool as they would on the desktop. Let's stay with the brush tool. If there was a space key, we could quickly switch to pan/hand mode while working. If we had an option key, we could easily drag to get the color picker as it works on the desktop. This would simplify the menus and allow those keys to be used with multiple tools, as they do on the desktop when using a wacom or similar. I'd suggest space, option, command, control, and shift keys. And see below for my suggestion for placement, although it would be cool to swap placement for lefties. I love that you guys are so responsive.

Nickfranken reacted to MEB in Working on RAW files with IPad 10.5
    Hi toxotis70,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
No, Affinity Photo doesn't support RAW + XMP sidecar files (nor DNG's with XMP data). You can only keep the edits adjustments/edits done in Photo Persona saving the file in our native file format (changes made in Develop Persona are baked up to the image when switched to Photo Persona). To save the file in our native file format tap the document icon on the top of the iPad interface and select Save a Copy. Note that Affinity is not a DAM software like Lightroom, Aperture and similar - it doesn't use sidecar files nor databases to keep the RAW's adjustments or apply adjustments to multiple images from the same set. It doesn't manage libraries on any kind. It's a RAW converter/developer and photo editing app similar to Adobe Photoshop + Adobe Camera RAW. We do have plans to develop a DAM software later.

    Hi All!

My name is Jorge De Silva, and I'm a Portuguese photographer & filmmaker based in Switzerland.
I am (soon: was) an adobe user for years, but now I decided to simplify my life, and go away from all the adobe suite. Not only dropping Photoshop, but also premiere, lightroom, illustrator, etc...
I discovered Affinity Photo a couple weeks ago, and I was super impressed, so I decided to ask serif for a test program,/ partnership!
It turned out that now is my main photo editing / manipulator software.
There are a lot of things that I still need to test, and a lot of things that I will probably request, but this is looking pretty good already.

Feel free to join me on my social media networks and check my website also :)

    All the best,
    Jorge De Silva

As a long time pro photographer and designer, the iPad version is not just 'nice to have'. It's fantastic! Feature equal versions for my iPad Pro and MBP is one of the best features ever and insures that Affinity Photo will be one of my primary tools. I can do lots of paying work primarily on the iPad and drawing and editing is really sweet with the iPad Pro 12.9" + Apple Pencil. They did a fantastic job on the GUI! I sure hope Affinity is planning an iPad version of Designer!

I never introduced my self. I'm a photographer/retoucher/film maker and cg artist from the Netherlands. You can find my work at www.nickfranken.com
Since 1997 I'm a notorious photoshop user :). And since the 1st beta a Lightroom user. I lover multimedia and I love computers. Since two months I use Affinity Photo and since two weeks I don't even have a Creative Cloud subscription any more. I also switched from LR to DXO and Phocus for my Raw conversion. And from Adobe premiere to Davinci Resolve. After Effects is switched to Motion 5.

Affinity woke me up from a Adobe dream, because of switching to Affinity I had to find other software too. And I discovered that Adobe isn't the best creative software maker! DXO is so much better compared to LR, and Davinci Resolve is heaven compared to Premiere Pro. So people of Serif, thanks. No I have better software for less money!

    Keep up the good work!
