Thanks for all the help, I uninstalled and re-installed again and now everything seems to be working as it should be, I will keep an eye on things but hopefully I can continue with the new upgrade.

Thanks Richard, but there is still no change and none of the Inpainting/Healing/Clone functions are working either, I will have to reinstall version 1.9 and see if it is just 1.10 that is affected.

I've updated to v1.10 and have just been trying to convert a colour photo to B&W, it just doesn't work, the suggested edits go blank and altering the sliders for each colour has no effect and the photo remains coloured. Has anyone else found this, I haven't checked if any other features have been affected but would welcome any advice on fixing this glitch. I have uninstalled and re-installed after re-starting my Windows 10 laptop but this was ineffective. Help. . . .

When I logged into Affinity Photo 1.6.0.89 it suggested that I download the latest update, I was suspicious because I thought all updates were done automatically, however your message on this forum confirms that an update is available, is it safe to download from a website called go.affinity?
