  1. Your example shows just one rectangle. For different objects (maybe a circle one page 2) with just 1 layer, you will need global layers.
  2. No, Master Pages are for static Objects (the framework of a page), layers are for the content. If you have to present alternative Content for all pages of a document, you have to use Global Layers. There is simply no other way.
  3. That's what I mean. Language versioning with Master Pages is nothing but a bad joke. It will never work in the real world.
  4. No, I'm not arrogant. I'm very frustrated. Global Layers are a very basic function. And almost nobody knows about that? I hoped for a real replacement of InDesign. But if you are happy with a little App for amateurs...
  5. You will never do this with Master Pages. Thats the reason why Layers exits. Only with global layers you can do this properly and fast.
  6. The problem with global layers is that they do not exist in Publisher. You have to do the same thing on every page, again and again.....
  7. Yes, I have to believe this because so much nonsense is written here about layers and MasterPages.
  8. Petar, I think we can give it up soon. Nobody understands us here. Too many fanboys and hobby designers here. They can not understand it, because most of them only played around for a minute with a cracked version of InDesign.
  9. I think Petar means "stacking" of several master pages on one page. But no matter, who seriously believes that Master Pages are a substitute for global layers, nothing has been understood. Master Pages are for the basic framework. Global Layers are needed for placing different content.
  10. Yes, its possible. But Master Pages can never be a substitute for gobal layers because they only work for "static" objects. Or would someone seriously want to create 100 master pages for a catalog of 100 pages?
  11. Sorry, thats totally wrong. Do you ever worked seriously with InDesign? For everyone who don't know what gobal layers are: Please look at this thread. There is a good example (Video). It's such an easy thing, but you can't actually do this in Affinity. If you need alternative Content (language versioning etc.) you have to set up an new document in Publisher. In InDesign you can deactivate the layer with the text und make a new layer for another language. Just two Mouseclicks - FOR EVERY SITE OF THE WHOLE DOCUMENT! If you try to do this in the same Publisher document you have to do this for every site, again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again ...... Impossible for documents with a large amount of sites, catalogs etc.
  12. @Cineman an all others, who don't know what gobal layers are: Please look at this thread. There is a good example (Video). It's such an easy thing, but you can't actually do this in Affinity. 13. Noooooo, Masters are not the same as Layers! You can't work with Master Sites if you have to present an alternative Content over many sites with just 1 mouseclick. It's impossible. Are there only amateur layouters here? I'm beginning to believe that I've bet on the wrong horse with the Afinity Suite.
  14. Sorry, only someone who has never worked properly with InDesign can claim this. Too bad that I have to defend InDesign here. All I really want is for the Publisher to get basic functionality, without which professional work under time pressure is unfortunately not possible.
  15. I already corrected this. Before InDesign, I used QuarkXPress. The developers at Adobe and Quark know exactly why their customers want global layers. It is not always good to be different.
  16. @Pixelkobold: The Layers in ID show the objects of the site too. But they are working across the whole document. My englisch is too bad to explain the details. I am working for 18 years with ID. Itˋs Layer Concept is much more better than Publisher´s layers.
  17. From a "professional" point of view, I must agree to the the statement of the video. Even for a beta, the publisher is currently a bad publication, which unfortunately is likely to damage the previously impeccable reputation of Affinity. It's, at best, an early alpha version that better would not have been made public yet. Here in the forum some moderators try to turn the bugs into features. In my opinion, Affinity has just taken over the concept of AD and AP simply without any significant changes for DTP and layout purposes. But that does not even work. My main criticisms: - Layers only affect the corresponding single page. Real layouters can not do without global layers. - Master pages can not contain editable text frames or images. What is it good for? - Bleed is neither visible nor exported properly. (I still have hope for this bug). Unfortunately this list can be extended indefinitely. Without adding tons of features, the publisher becomes just another gimmick for hobbyists and occasional users. Working with workarounds is no alternative. A publisher must be one thing above all else: fast and effective.
  18. I am afraid as well. But they have to change it. Otherwise Affinity becomes ridiculous with the release of the final version. Then we can give up dreaming of an Adobe alternative.
  19. No, it must be a feature included in the final release. Professionals will not take the program seriously otherwise. Layout apps for hobbyists and occasional users are more than enough in the Mac App Store. Affinity Publisher must offer at least the basic features for professional layouters.
  20. That right! We also need Global Layers, in addition to the existing site-specific layers. Or the ability to tag layers. Tagged Layers were a great suggestion of A_B_C in the thread "Wrong layer concept for an layout application".
  21. Many thanks for your demonstration videos, Alex. Tagged Layers may be a good and working compromise. But I don't know if it would really be that difficult to offer global layers. These layers would not have to be recognized by AD and AP, because they are not needed there so urgently. Although I would be happy about that too. Maybe Affinty should just change the layer concept everywhere. That would be the best way without compromise.
  22. The moderator Chris_K replied in another thread "Each page has it's own set of layers. This is intended behaviour". Sorry, this is not a behaviour. This is a terrible mess! I can not believe that Affinity knows so little about the needs of its target audience.
  23. You are right! They adopted the layer concept without any changes from AD and AP. Above all, there is a lack of global levels that can be reasonably used in a layout app. I opened a thread for that: The guys from Affinity have to wake up.
