This was easy!  Select the two sets of curves with the node tool anf then click the 'Join curve' which will jopin the top two nodes then click 'Close curve' and that will join the two nodes you wanted. You can then choose 'Break' the curve if you want to separate the top two nodes.

It would be very useful to be able to drag a guide line using the Node tool as well as the Move tool. This way the curve nodes will not disappear when dragging a guide line.

Yes that is exactly what I did and it worked OK. I now have a better understanding of how this procedure works.

The Layer menu is on the Mac OS menu bar so, as I said, this behavior is controlled by the OS, not the Affinity app. For the distribute functions, you can use the Alignment button on the Affinity menu bar, which drops down a window that won't close until you click Cancel or Done.

    Hi Alfred,
Yes I did mean that and thank you for crediting me with 'already knowing' I didn't!
This solves the problem. it would be nice to 'Toggle' between 'all showing' and 'not all showing'.

I'm now quite happy with the current system. I created a 'Style' for doing tapered lines for ellipses for doing technical illustrations.
I varied the thickness of the line by using the pressure profile. See the attached file.

Thanks for this. I will have to investigate creating other shortcuts. A modifier key would be useful but for now this sounds like an excellent solution.

Has this been made into a feature request, I would certainly second the ability to reverse the layer order, both for 'all' layers in a document and layers within groups independently, so that only the layers within the group are re-ordered, I seem to spend a lot of time doing this manually at the moment.
What would be great in addition is perhaps a preference that allows new layers to be added below, rather than above the current layer or something similar so people can select which they prefer.

Isn't it great great that through my ignorance of not knowing how to turn off margins it has caused a possible bug to be reported.

What is the best format to provide a printer? The job is a label using a black and white halftone and two spot colours.
This is the first time, using AD, that I have had to provide something for a commercial printer to print.

Partly yes, since you have to know one or two things from each other domain, in order to work successfully together.

For creating a huge corporate online shop system we once were about 10-12 people working together, the majority programmers and some three graphic designers. The graphic designers created the overall corporate identity look, making help guide avatars, logos, icons, menus, buttons, text layout etc., they styled the site pages and also had to leave room there in the code for the underlayed programming logic and the interface to the app server (we used a three tier system architecture). All in all the team work was well functional, since our designers also had some basic knowledge about programming and where it is mandantory to have interfaces or where some underlayed database calls had to be performed to get the needed informations etc. On the other side we also know where something had to be reflected in the systems human interaction usage part (look & feel) and thus would have to interact with design parts.

I accept this but they were just another new tool just like felt-tip pens, ellipse templates, technical pens, Letraset, PMTs etc. With the advent of DTP typographers and graphic designers had to learn a new way and language to do their job. It also enabled the unskilled in these disciplines to do the job. By this I mean office secretaries were trained to use DTP software without any needing knowledge any knowledge of these skills. The result was a dumbing-down of graphic design by DIY designers. I'm old enough to have lived through the change and ran my own graphic design studio so I know what I'm talking about.

It would be useful to have a variable grid made up of concentric circles with angles radiating out of the centre of the circles. Each feature would be user variable controlled from the 'Grid and Axis Managaer' and switchable from one to the other.
I discovered a need for this when I had to design a rotating cam based on an Archimedian profile.

    Does anyone agree with this?

jackamus reacted to ver in Illustrator vs. DrawPlus vs. Designer vs. CorelDRAW
My first thought when I saw the features in DrawPlus that disappeared from Affinity Designer was that those were all from third party libraries that weren't re-licensed to Designer for business reasons. Not that:

If you do own all the code then I would suggest to dump all these features that you consider to be sub-optimal under a menu called "experimental" and improve them if and when revenues support the investment. I'd rather have the choice to use a feature versus having them culled a priori as substandard. Adobe Illustrator has the largest user base, but the installer is about a 1.8 GB download and exemplifies the code bloat that results from thousands of man-years of coding with a nearly unlimited budget. No one needs a clone of that, but nevertheless you should try to get the most mileage out of the code base that you already have. No need to go around "un-ticking" some of the features in order to claim a more linear or polished application. I don't think many people will find it believable. All software is a work in progress.

Many home printers do actually print more accurate in their own srgb profile. It depends, you'd need to dig a bit there about your model (if no manuals/docs, google can help a lot). Monitor calibration is key, I noticed lots of variances before that. Even then, once calibrated, the environment and room light affects a lot. The bulbs... I purchased since long ago 6500k temperature lights. (daylight). Even so, printing people say is better like 5k something... In my experience has gone better 6500k, and even in many cases trusting on a sRGB (calibrated) workflow. Before the lights thing, it was a bit of a nightmare with colors. For printing with POD printers, or specially OFFSET local ones, the most accurate solution is cmyk, using the color profile the company is using.

I even have a CMYK samples book to ensure my colors are right. (from Amazon, a cheap but ok one aorund 30 euros)

CMYK files with the profile embedded would look wrong in most viewers or email/browser softwares. My advice for anythign that goes to that target: Convert strictly to sRGB and loads of probs go away. For printing, use the correct workflow.

There was an old issue with PNGs including a tag not supported by most web browsers, related to color profiling, that forced white be non pure white, I used back in the days TweakPNG and a similar thing for JPGs to strip out that tag and prob solved. (IE had the issue more). Also, a lot of people and/or system/software are still using browsers or browser/email configuration that wont support calibrated, profile embedded images.  And so, the lack of accuracy. For this reason is that sRGB is safest, as is what most screen based targets will take safely. (and even several printed ones). Is a degradation of quality in many cases, though, but IMO fine for most screen targets.

Why is it when I save an image, which has been cropped, it is saved in its original size and not its cropped size?
I saved it as a selection without background.

I, too have experienced this phenomenon.
But I did not bother to send it in.
    Why not ?
Well, after having sent in numerous obervations/questions/feature requests regarding the rulers/guids,
I've come to the conclusion that these matters do not have priority with the developers.
And that's just an observation, I really DO appreciate the tremendous efforts of the developers and
the prompt & friendly way the questions etc. are answered in this forum.
Having said that, I DO WISH though, that all out-standing matters regarding the rulers & guids would be solved in one full sweep.
    Thank you....
