Great job there. DrawPlus also has a good selection of tools. So as time progresses AD's tool box will fill up. Not with a wide selection of Swiss Army knives, but a choice selection of sonic screw drivers :ph34r:  :)  (this is not my wording, but I wished it was.)

This is my first attempt at a technical illustration on a computer. Prior to this I spent over 30 years using a drawing board, technical pens and ellipse templates.
 
My previous experience with vector graphics was Serif's DrawPlusX5-6 on a PC. I acquired Adobe Illustrator but found it difficult to use and I was too old to learn new ways. I then moved over to a Mac and was delighted when I was offered the Beta version of Affinity. This was very similar to DrawPlus which made it easy for me use.
Since Affinity does not yet have a perspective drawing feature I used Adobe Illustrator to construct a perspective grid which I was able to load onto Affinity. There were a couple of effects I wanted to use but didn't know how. Fortunately Affinity's Forum provided me with the answers.
 
This is a woodworking jig I designed for drilling wooden dowel holes for joining wood together. If anyone wants to know how it works just let me know.

Thank you both for your help. I have to say that Jakerlund's video said it all. I'm afraid that Mikes file confused me even further but now I know how to do it Mike's makes sense. I think it was because Jakerlund used my original file which I fully understood. Now I can go where only a few have ever been before - Captain Kirk! ;)

There's two ways to do this (there may be more, but I've started my AM coffee IV Drip :| )
 
The first way to to use the rectangle as a clipping mask: In the Layers panel, just drag the Ellipse layer over the rectangle until the Feedback (that cute little blue line) appears below the ellipse text and release the hounds, er mouse/stylus.
 
This will give you a nice clean cut of anything outside the rectangle.
 
The other method is to use the boolean operator Intersect. Select the Ellipse and Rectangle shapes on the canvas and click on the intersect button on the Operations section of the toolbar. 
 
the issue with this method is that there's a blur effect on the ellipse, so the cut line is also blurred. If that's what you want, then great.
 
However if a nice smooth cut line is what you're after, then the Masking method is the one I'd use. The advantage of this method is that it's non destructive and you can adjust the ellipse as much as you need to.
 
I've attached a copy of your file with layers named after each of the methods I've described. Hope it helps.

You are correct jackamus! The profiles only save on a per project basis. I wish they would save to the application like a brush or something. 

Take a look at the image below:

On the left example i'm defining a simple dashed line that alternates between 1 unit dash, followed by 3 units of empty space (marked in red). Then the entire block (marked in blue) repeats itself. There's no more variation because i left the third and fourth input fields at 0.
 
On the right example the pattern is a little more complex but follows the same logic: 1 unit dash, followed by 3 units of empty space, followed by a 6 units dash, followed by 2 units of empty space (marked in red). Then the block repeats itself (marked in blue).

As an old DrawPlus user I liked doing woking drawings showing dimension lines, dimensions and scales. This would be a great tool for Affinity.

Those of us who were brought up on DP and always bemoaned the fact that DP couldn't be used on a Mac can now say WOW! its the top seller in the Mac Apps Store! Well done Serif. Roll on the next update.
