I say it because that's what you're trying to do.

If you want another ellipse that looks like B, then duplicate B (Cmd+J). It is you don't want it identical, but similar, use the Style Picker to copy B's appearance and paste onto your other ellipse.

In other words, pick the right tool for what you're trying to do. As far as I know, the Line Width Tool is the wrong one for your purpose.

Walt you have confirmed what I was thinking and that the line width tool is not appropriate. However it might still have a use for incomplete or partial ellipses. I will check that one out.

I wouldn't bother with the Line Width tool at all. I would select the ellipse with the desired pressure profile, save the profile and then apply it to the new ellipse. Or I would copy the ellipse with the desired profile and use the Edit > Paste Style to the newly drawn ellipse. Or I would temporarily use the Synchronize Defaults from Selection (the ellipse with the desired profile being the selection) to set my default to the desired profile and then draw a new ellipse.

What I have done in the past is to save the ellipse as an asset to use another time.

Again, duplicating an existing stroke pressure profile is not a function provided with the Line Width Tool. There's no "copy" function. If you have an existing object with a pressure profile you're better off saving that profile, or possibly using the Style Picker.

I've no idea. But thanks for the new file.

I don't understand why you keep saying I'm trying to duplicate a pressure profile! Let me put it another way - how do I draw an ellipse, using the line width tool, to look like ellipse 'B'?

I probably would not use the Line Width Tool for that, as duplicating another object's stroke doesn't seem to be one of its advertised purposes/capabilities.

B already has a pressure profile. So, with B selected, in the Stroke panel you can click on the profile, then Save Profile.

Then select A, and in the Stroke panel click on the pressure profile, and double-click on the saved profile to set A's pressure profile to exactly match the saved one from B.

    Hi Walt,

B is what I'm trying to imitate with C! A is what I started with for both of them.

Attached is the a new drawing using AD Beta to create it. Why does adding 2 a new node default the line thickness to zero?

  5. I've been trying out the new line width tool but find it does not seem to be anymore versatile then the existing Pressure tool in fact less useful!

In example 'B' I was trying to use this tool to create the same line thickness as in 'A'. I created 'A' using the existing Pressure tool.

I would say for the new tool to be more useful the adjustment nodes need to be independently adjustable as when using the Pressure tool. The only advantage in the new tool is would be 'live' line width adjustment as you move a node rather than moving your gaze between line and Pressure tool tab.

When a new node is added the line thickness seems to defaults to zero.

Am I just simply not using the tool correctly?

As I remember it, only the 'premium' channels like HBO ever promised no ads, & that still applies. As for paying for Amazon Prime, it has saved me hundreds of dollars a year on purchases & shipping costs & gives me access to tons of high quality TV shows & movies I could not otherwise get, so for me it is well worth the cost.

BTW, even without paying the extra charge for ad-free viewing, the ad breaks are far fewer & shorter than on broadcast or non-premium cable channels. That's one reason I look for & am willing to pay for services that let me avoid the ever more present & disruptive commercial breaks on U.S. TV.

Years ago I stopped watching TV and films put out by the controlled media of Hollywood and governments and their agencies because I no longer want to be brainwashed by them. This has given me a lot of extra time to be able to THINK and not strangled by wall-to-wall TV, sports and entertainment!

When you start thinking again that's when you see just exactly what kind world you are living in!

Partly agree. I'm not completely black-and-white about it. I spend a lot of time with a professor of sociology and his wife who also works in the field at a similar level, and here I can't avoid hearing about mass psychology - reactions in society among groups of individuals, and how it spreads. Herd behavior is very interesting, not least when you have to see what you yourself have been influenced by.

The West has been brainwashed for decades over just about everything by Hollywood, the media, governments and big multinational corporations so there is likely to be some truth in references to psychology and the CANVA takeover.

    Hi @jackamus,

Can you give some more context to crashes?  What had you been doing at the point of the crash?  Is this something you can replicate, if you can, can you let me know the steps to follow and I'll see if I can replicate it :)

I'm afraid that I can't remember what I was doing at that time except that I was working on the same drawing. I have been away since then until today when I hope to pick-up on the drawing again. If the crash happens again I will make a note of what I was doing at the time.

And what has changed? Your Affinity apps still do the same thing today as they did last week.

There seem to be a lot of people with crystal balls in this forum, predicting the future. They cast the runes, they consulted the Oracle, felt it in their bones, and checked their horoscopes. It's about as accurate as the BBC weather forecast.

Why not just wait and see what actually comes down the line?

Agreed and once you know, you can walk if you want to.

I’ve got the file now, Jack. I see you discovered that it was much too big to send by email. (Anything bigger than 5 or 10 MB is quite likely to be too big. There are probably still some mail systems that won’t accept attachments bigger than 2 MB.)

Please edit your post to remove the plain text version of my email addy. I’d rather not receive more spam than absolutely necessary!

Sorry but how do I do this Alfred?

You can talk whatever you want, but you as a company PROMISED us without any fussy wording that you would NEVER going to let another company aquire you. You stated that LITERALLY. And yet here we are, not even that much later.

    Your words mean NOTHING. Spineless.

Companies that treat clients like this and fail to even respect their own principles, that were the company and product value to begin with, are not worth any more trust. I left instantly because we just cannot trust you. You sold out.

Well said! This is going to be a difficult criticism to refute!

Unless someone shares their key with you to allow you to try it out, Naughty, yes. Illegal possibly. But Draw plus and accompanying Plus applications are no longer actively supported by Serif and they do provide some facilities that would complement Affinity. Serif still own the copyright of course and now I suppose Canva might as well.

For years I have asked Serif why DrawPlus was better, for me that is, than AD? DP had more drawing features then than AD has now! All I got in response was DP was old and not a platform that was compatible with modern OS. Basically what they were saying was that the new way of doing things was not going to be as good as the old way! Isn't this called 'dumbing down'?

    Check: VectorStyler.
A software superior to Illustrator and Designer and imagine … a company of ONE. One person, a teacher from Finland. Can you imagine?

I have supported him since the beta days. Now there is a promo for 1.5 and one time payment.

I have had a quick look at VectorStyler and I think you may be right. I will check it out further.

Hooray! With the extra resources now available to Serif perhaps the developers will be able to stop the nodes and handles of object disappearing when you move a guide and also develop a perspective drawing feature.

Looks like I opened a can of worms with my CANVA posting!
