Is it possible to 'lock' a group so that it cannot be ungrouped accidentally when ungrouping with other grouped objects?

OK I saw your emoticon! But you know what I mean - DP8 doesn't have all the AD features. I would have to use both to get the drawing I require.

I haven't got that far yet with experimenting between platforms. I do not expect every feature of either AD or DP8 to be compatible, just enough to do the required job for me.

I understand that but I'm trying to think outside the box so to speak. If there is a serious OS incompatibility between Mac and Windows why not offer the Windows AD with DP8 features. There must be many programs Mac/Windows programs that vary slightly in the way they work. I use a Mac version of a 'SolidWorks' reader that is different from the Windows version.

I do realise that there may be times when a pdf may not work between platforms. The main feature of DP8 that I use is the Dimension tool. I do the drawing in AD but use DP8 to add dimensions.

Having installed Parallels so that I can use AD and DP8 on the same file I still cannot understand why DP8 features and tools are not going to be used for AD. One reason for this was that OS make it difficult. OK I accept that for the Mac version of AD but why can't DP8 features and tools be used on the Windows version of AD?

A few weeks ago I was bemoaning the fact that DrawPlus8 had a few features and tools that AD has not yet implemented. Someone suggested that I download 'Parallels' which would allow me to run DP8 from Windows on my Mac. This I did however it left an incompatibility between AD files and DP8 files. I was able to get round this by saving as a pdf in AD and then importing into DP8 to use its non-AD features. This is working quite well.

OK. I'll stick with DrawPlus8 for the time being.

Does the PC version of AD have the same features as DrawPlus8 or are they only the same as the Mac version?

I'll check this out to see if it can be done DrawPlus8.

I am aware that there are at least two differences but for me DP is better then AD. I have been able to set up the Windows OS using a program called 'Parallel' on a 14 day free trial.

I would be interested to know if there are any AD for Windows user who previously used DrawPlus? If so how would they compare them? This is an extension to a similar thread on AD for Mac.

I'm sure you know exactly what I mean! When I had a PC I tried a number of vector based programs to see which I like best. I finished up with DP. They were all very similar but had local differences just like motor cars do.

Jend Krebs said, "it's very simple: Affinity Designer and Serif DrawPlus are DIFFERENT APPLICATIONS". It is this distinction that I refer to. I do not see why you cannot compare two programs that appear to basically do the same job but use different OSs. This has always been a contention between Mac and Windows. I changed over from a PC to a Mac because Mac was more stable but I couldn't use DP and was about to set up a PC laptop just to run DP when Affinity was published. Now I am looking to go back to using Windows, in some way, just so I can use DP. There was a suggestion about being able to toggle between Mac OS and the Windows OS on my Mac which I shall follow up.

That is obvious 'horses for courses'. I wonder how many people prefer the Windows version of AD to DrawPlus or do they have to run both? If they do I would be interested what AD has that DP doesn't. When you or Serif say that Affinity and DrawPlus they are different applications, you could have fooled me when I first saw Affinity! If people regularly compare Illustrator with Affinity is it because they are similar programs or that they are similar applications?

OK. Is it possible then that some of the features requested will not be possible because of the OS being used or that it would be too difficult to design? This begs the question, "Is this something that the developers would know at the time"?

That seems logical and it is always an option that Serif can use.

I still can'r see how the chosen OS can affect what can be done in a graphics program. Are you saying that in Windows it might be possible, for example, create 'text on path' but not on a Mac?

That's a bit of a straw man argument requiring a yes or no answer. Would having to pay for updates bring them about any quicker?

Surely the operating system has nothing to do with the features. I accept that you cannot simply 'lift' DrawPlus8 features and dump them in Affinity. All the drawing features in DrawPlus8 would, in my view, should have been the starting point for Affinity. And I accept it is 'far from simple' but there must have been a 'spec' written-up for the new Affinity vector drawing program.

My requirement lies between a package like Affinity and a full-blown CAD program and DrawPlus8 fulfilled this adequately.
