  1. So what? File incompatibility is fact of computer life. If you just wanted to create something to look at at or print then they were OK. But if you want to put it though a washing machine of different file formats then it was useless but it still had more drawing features than AD!
  2. I'm beginning to think its pointless discussing this with you RCR! Of course you couldn't use it on a Mac but that doesn't mean it wasn't a better program. Even it was used only on a BBC or a Sinclair or any other generation of computer you could still was a better program. BTW Why don't you remove that silly mask from your Avatar since everyone now knows that COVID was a scam and was created to get people to take a dangerous jab as a population reducer.
  3. With respect Walt, that's a cop-out! They are only different is as much as one was more versatile than the other. This is the reason why people migrate from Corell Draw or Illustrator or any of the other drawing programs. Given the choice I wouldn't have migrated from DrawPlus to AD except for the fact that DrawPlus was being superseded with a Mac version which wasn't as good.
  4. You still don't get it RCR!! Forget all about platforms and just consider two vector programs one called DrawPlus and one called AD. You could do more with DrawPlus than you can with AD. That all I am saying.
  5. Your missing the point! Its got nothing to do with what will run on what OS! Its to do with DrawPlus being a better drawing program than AD. You could do more with it.
  6. Hi Alfred, I know all that as it was explained to me ages ago. The point I was making that with today's two main platforms it has not been possible for Serif to create a new vector app that is as good as DrawPlus was. Affinity is a dumbed down version in terms of having as many different features.
  7. Affinity has got a long way to go to be as good as DrawPlus was! I think the process of converting from the DrawPlus coding was never successfully achieved. One would believe that, with today's technology, converting from and old way of doing things to a new way would be dead easy! But apparently not!
  8. OK I selected the photo and then the knife tool and cut the photo in half but the photo disappears.
  9. The manual say to choose the knife tool from the Pencil Tool flyout - I don't seem to have a Pencil tool just a Knife tool already in view in the tools. If I attempt to use the knife tool it just drags a blue rectangle. What am I doing wrong?
  10. This is great post! I would suggest that user has the choice of being able to toggle between the original horizontal/vertical or the rotated orientation of the bounding boxes. My only gripe is that when dragging a guide from the side or top to align with a central bounding box handle, the handle disappears which is a real bug when there may be many other almost aligning snapping points out of view.
  11. I concur with you not being very hopeful. However unlike you I'm quite happy with bounding boxes except when you try to drag a guide the bounding box handles disappear and that you cannot align the guide with any particular handle. They claim that snapping would cure this but snapping can also be a problem when there may be other snapping positions that are almost in line but out of view and create a false snap. I have been asking Affinity for years and discussing with forum members at length to keep the bounding box handles visible whilst dragging a guide but to no avail. I fear that Affinity is not interested in listening to my plea and updating the apps to take care of this problem. I've even given examples of how useful this feature would be for producing technical illustrations and its relevance to aligning a guide to the major and minor axes of an ellipse. All I can suggest is just be persistent, as I have been, in the hope that you will get one of the developers on your side.
  12. I'm not an artist in the commercial sense. I've been painting for 30 years and during that time I've probably only had about 20 actual commissions. All my other paintings were for fiends or relatives or just for myself. I paint for fun and if someone wants a digital one then I will be happy to do it. 3 of my paintings were made into jigsaws and it wouldn't matter to them how I created it.
  13. Exactly! I did give that some thought too about whether or not to get rid of my analogue painting materials. In order to try and keep some similarity between digital and analogue I'll meet it half-way. I'll paint on a tablet but print onto canvas!
  14. Hi Mark, The only reason I asked the question about bristle types was because I've seen examples of what look like course brushes showing the brush marks. Personally I only ever use sable brushes of varying sizes. Its very unlikely that I will want to go back to real painting even if I can't handle the painting tablet. BTW in order to be able to operate the tablet from my computer in another room away from my Mac I have also bought a laptop Mac dedicated to the tablet! There was no wireless way of connecting the tablet to my other Mac as the distance was too great for Bluetooth. I will take advantage of the Artrage forum and leave you in peace LOL!
  15. Cheers for that. The Artrage forum sounds like a good idea and if it is a s good as the Affinity forum that will be very helpful indeed. Before attempting to do a painting I will play around with the various options.
  16. Thanks for your encouraging words. What I meant was I can't just sit down with a blank sheet of paper and create a work of art from my own imagination. I can imagine a lot but not express it on paper or canvas. Its interesting that I did it all the time at school - we were never given a image or object to draw or paint. The nearest was to create a painting depicting a verse from a poem or a story.
  17. LOL Thanks for the encouraging words! What I meant was that I don't dream-up something to paint on a blank canvas. Painting a landscape from a photo is a lot different than sitting out in the open and painting what you see. There would be too many distractions for me like changing light levels and the inconvenience of carrying around all the gear. Whereas a photo near the canvas is so much easier.
  18. Hi Mark, I have just bought an 'Artist 24 Pro' painting tablet and I'm think about getting Artrage because you know how to use it. I am selling all my acrylic painting materials and easel. Getting rid of the lot! I'm not a real artist as I don't start with a blank canvas and create a painting. I work from photographs a references. My main subjects are planes, boats, cars and trains and occasionally a portrait. I've downloaded the trial demo and I have some questions. One of the things I've noticed is that the screen is not cluttered-up with loads of feature tabs. But can it if you create many different options yourself? Is it possible to create your own pallet of mixed colours that you can dip into as you paint? Does it have a way to easily clean your brush? Do you have to use the colour wheel to choose colours or is there a default colour source? Can I set up my own paint brush sizes and with different kinds bristles like hog or sable? You can probably tell that what I want to do is basically paint the way I did with real paint but using the convenience of digital. I don't really want to learn a completely different way to paint. Are you happy for me to contact you privately with questions as I progress rather than the public forum?
  19. I'm just flagging-up a problem with guides and how the developers solve it is for them and for not me to make suggestions how they ought to solve it! There just needs to be a way to lock individual guides and also how to select a stroke that is hidden under a guide. Do you know what the 2.1 improvements are likely to be?
  20. The idea of laminated screen is reduce parallax between pen tip and screen. Check out this link. https://www.xp-pen.com/forum-2511.html
  21. Maybe its because I'm not very disciplined at using layers as much as I ought to. I tend to do my jobs quickly and creating layers is a chore. However I wouldn't blame you for saying, "you need to be more disciplined!" Can you hide guides as well as create new visible guides? Locking and unlocking individual guides could be done with a mouse click with an operator key or maybe create a shortcut. There is another problem I have with guides and that is if a stroke is coincident with a guide and can't be seen or partially seen it is not possible to selct the stroke without first moving the guide to expose it. The move tool seems to default to the guide rather than the stroke.
  22. I've continued my search for the right tablet for me and I'm beginning to think their isn't one except the expensive Wacom tablets. This is my specification for a tablet: 1 24" laminated screen. 2 Wirelessly connected to my Mac computer from another room. 3 Battery free pen. Know anything that would fit that spec? I shall keep on looking.and see if I can find a specialist company that sells tablets.
  23. Yes. I was constructing a vertical flow chart that used text boxes. The chart needed to be centered on a guide. Because there were text boxes it was easy to accidentally move a guide. A locked guide would be useful in this case. Sometimes, when doing technical drawing I use a great number of guides and periodically have to remove them all but there are some that I do not want to move so I have to go back and replace them.
