nodeus reacted to TrentL in How to Load Procreate Brushes into Affinity Photo and Designer
Loading Procreate brushes into Affinity takes a few steps, but it is possible. In this video, we’ll look at how to load 2 types of brushes (Stamp Brushes, Texture Brushes) and also review some Dynamics settings to make them look even better.
PS: If anyone from Serif (or should I say Canva?) is reading, it would be a cool feature if Procreate brushes could be loaded as easily as Photoshop brushes. It seems like it would be a relatively easy feature to implement.

Okay, I'm an early beta user of all the Affinity suite and I'm convinced it's getting better and better after each update.
I hope I'm wrong but I can't find a way to work on photos or bitmap illustrations in Affinity Photo with duotones, tritones and even quadritones with spot colours via the channel like I'm doing it with Photoshop. Is it possible? It would really help me to get rid of Photoshop for good.
To clarify my process, in Photoshop, I'm working in Greyscale mode and then I'm adding spot colours via the Channel panel. Photoshop is then able to simulate in Grey mode the spot colours and simulate the overprint of each colour. While working with spot colours on illustrations, I'm having 1200 dpi A3 files in greyscale mode which gives me quite small files size while working with large high resolution files. This is super handy. Most people working with silkscreen print process know what I'm talking about.
I'd also love to be able to work with bitmap 1 bit image in Affinity Photo as well but I don't think I can do that either.
    Many thanks.

I want to export to PDF, 28 separate pages (as specified by commercial printer). I have a 28 page document set up as single pages (not spreads) and the only options I have are All Pages or Current Page. Leaving on 'All Pages' did not create 28 single pages PDF. I tried with a Spreads document... didn't work either!

nodeus reacted to NotMyFault in Designer: please add channels panel
Please add channels panel to Designer, off by default to calm the nay sayers, but available in studio manager for those who need it.
It is an essential tool to check the result of any color manipulation, e.g. from adjustment layers, or layer blending, or to easily preview CMYK color separation.
Without channels Panel you either need to
Switch to Photo (which lacks some of Designer's capabilities, making this approach both tedious and often impossible). Rely on workarounds like adding channels mixer adjustments (create the ad-hoc, or manage them as assets - adjustment presets are missing in Designer, too. Don't forget to delete them before saving.

I bought into Affinity yrs ago to use for t-shirt designing. But I quickly learned there was no easy way to separate the colors to produce my screens. So I basically abandoned it after wasting hours learning it and looking for a work around.
Id like to give V2 a try. But has there been an easy means of separating colors worked into the upgrade?

nodeus reacted to jaxfh in Print Production needs Overprint, and Color (Ink) Separation
    Hello fellow Developers,
I trust everyone's having a productive coding day. I wanted to bring to light a topic that's incredibly relevant in the realm of Professional Print Production – the importance of Overprint Simulation and Color Separation, and why we need to integrate these features into the next version of Affinity Publisher and Designer.
The world of print production is complex, blending an intricate mix of color science, material properties, and digital-to-physical rendering. Overprint Simulation and color separation are two pivotal elements in this process, largely overlooked in many design software, including ours.
Overprint Simulation is the digital process of replicating the effect of printing one color on top of another. It's used to anticipate and prevent gaps or 'white halos' from appearing between colors due to misalignment - a common issue in print production. Overprint Simulation ensures clean, precise printing, particularly around intricate graphics and texts. It also facilitates unique color blending options that can be indispensable for graphic designers.
Color Separation, on the other hand, is the process of decomposing a graphic or image into the primary print colors – Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Key (Black), collectively known as CMYK. This is fundamental in transforming digital designs into tangible print products. The precision and accuracy of color separation directly influence the quality of the final printed piece, making this an essential tool for professional designers and publishers.
Affinity Publisher and Designer, while powerfully equipped with many other advanced features, lack built-in overprint simulation and color separation functionalities. The absence of these features complicates the print production process and can negatively affect the print output. Our users currently have to depend on other software for these functions, which is far from ideal considering our goal to provide a complete and intuitive solution for professional design and publishing needs.
Implementing these features would significantly enhance the efficacy of Affinity Publisher and Designer for print production. Overprint Simulation controls would offer more control over how colors interact, reducing potential print issues and broadening the creative palette for designers. Robust color separation tools would ensure that designs are print-ready straight from our software, saving time, and reducing the risk of color discrepancies in the final product.
Not only would these features better serve our current user base, but they would also make Affinity Publisher and Designer more competitive in the professional design software market, potentially attracting new customers who primarily work in print.
In conclusion, I urge everyone to consider the significance of overprint simulation and color separation features in our future updates. These are not just bells and whistles – they're fundamental tools for print production. Let's help our users to transform their digital art into printed masterpieces with the accuracy and color fidelity they deserve.

nodeus reacted to martenf in Creating ePub and other formats from Publisher V2
I just finished editing a book which is 420 pages long. I had started from a  Word document but then made the same mistake as others have of editing the document in Publisher and so the source is no longer the same as the prepared and edited version in Publisher.
I exported this out as a PDF which is fine for having the book printed but I also want an ePub version and another for Kindle. Unfortunately Publisher does not have any option to export in these formats.
This has been asked a number of times as far back as 2018 but those features are still not in the product.
I had hoped that importing the book into QuarkXpress would resolve this for me but there are so many anomalies that I may as well start from scratch. It made me think maybe I should have thought of this before I started the project in Publisher.

We should have a way to measure the length of curves. The current measurement tools work great but they are limited, I sometimes need to measure curves that must match with a different shape curve but with the same length, forcing me to walk both curves until I see if they match or not. This process can get very slow the more complex the curve gets. It would be great to know the length of a curve just by clicking on it.

nodeus reacted to jkrm in File save folder location
This may seem trivial, but it drivest me nuts. When I go to save or export in Affinity Photo, the default save folder seems to be the one I last saved a file to, not the folder that the file I am working on was loaded from. This often results in having to dig through my folder hierarchy for the right one, or worse, accidentally saving to the wrong folder and needing to search for it later. If I save a file and then do an export, once again I need to go searching for the correct folder. Is there a preference that can change this?  It seems to me that most software doesn’t work this way - files get saved to the folder from which they were opened.

nodeus reacted to John Rostron in Resize an image to a fixed maximum size
In another thread in Questions, I have been discussing with others how to write a macro that will resize an image so that the longest side is a fixed value. For example, if I resize a 4000x3000 image to maximum of 800, it will give a 800x600 image. For a portrait image, the image will become 600X800.
After many iterations, I came up with a set of macros included here in a macro library: Resize to fixed max size.afmacros, which is attached here.
    This includes five macros:
    Resize to 640 max
    Resize to 800 max
    Resize to 1280 max
    Resize to 1600 max
    Resize to variable max side
The first four will resize any image to the designated maximum size. The last one includes a parameter which allows you to partly-specify the target size. The default target size is 2000px, but for any other value (up to a maximum of 4000, use the pop-up to adjust. The value of the parameter is the desired maximum size divided by 4000. A convenient way of specifying the final maximum edge size is to enter a fraction. If your target is (say) 800px then, in the parameter box (not the slider), enter 800/4000. If your target is 3200, enter 3200/4000.
I have given technical details of the macro in subsequent messages in this thread.

    EDIT:
This is a revised version of the macros (as of 2nd November 2018). For details of the changes, see the item below which gives the macro details). The changes were in response to a user who found that if he cropped the image first, the macro did not work.

If Master A is Letter, Portrait, Facing and Master B Legal, Landscape, Single, and I choose to edit both at the same time with Document Setup, the attributes shown will be for whichever I selected in the list first rather than showing a mixed state value.
If I don't change any values and click OK then nothing will happen. I'd have thought the master I selected second would be changed to match the master I selected first. If I do change the values then the second master or both will be changed depending on what I change them to.
Also, I know this has been reported before and it's not really a bug but it's confusing: Facing pages is a checkbox under Pages in New Document, a checkbox under Model in Document Setup, and a segmented control under Dimensions in Spread Properties. Three different tabs and two designs for the same control.

Hi, can we get these two improvements:
Em- and En-space for the first line indent? Improvement on footnote relative (%) ruler width. For example, let say the ruler width is 40 mm and the text frame width is 120 mm. If we change the 40 mm with 30% in the box, the ruler width will become 12 mm instead of 36 mm because it is calculated from the ruler instead of the text frame width. Please, correct this "bug". The relative value of 30% (in this case) must stay in the box so, when we resize the width of the text frame -- the ruler has to be resized, too.

nodeus reacted to michaelschutz in Publisher v2 - GREP styles
There's been a longstanding request in the Publisher v1 forum to add GREP into Text styles. I was excited to see the announcement about v2 but saddened to see this didn't make it in. Since the feature isn't there (yet? ) and since those v1 forums are being archived, I'm bringing the request into this new forum to keep it alive.
For a specific kind of technical document I work with, there are dozens of types of replacements that need to happen on the text in new docs, within one text style. Having the GREP expressions in the style definition makes all of these replacements happen in one click of applying a style, rather than a laborious effort to do them individually.
I understand that this isn't a mainstream feature, but it's so, so helpful to those that need it. Since the engine is already in the software, it seems like it shouldn't be a huge deal to be able to attach GREP search/replace expressions into a text style. I could be wrong, of course, as I'm not a developer. But I (and many others) would very much appreciate this coming in a new update.
