ashf reacted to 4personnen in Affinity Designer - "select similar"
Hello, and sorry if the question have been asked before, but I would like to know if there is a function that would select automatically the "similar objects" according to stroke colour, fill colour, and other parameters.
I used this function before in illustrator (Unfortunately, I no longer have it to check) and it was very useful, particularly when you have tones of layers.
One of the top reason I may use it is when I am trying to select die-cuts marks on small objects (think small stickers scattered on a big sheet of paper and needed to be cut with let's a say a plotter)
We use the same artwork to print the packaging and in that case, I need to get rid of the die-cut marks (they are all with the same stroke colour). The way I was doing in Illustrator was to select one die cut and "auto-select" all the others based on the reference selected stroke colour.

If it doesn't exist yet, I'd raise my voice for a feature request

    Thanks!

ashf got a reaction from MadMak in SVG export: Unifying shape data
Adobe Illustrator unifies multiple shapes that is identical(Symbol) into single data when export SVG.
This makes SVG a lot smaller.
Would be nice if you could implement this.

Also an option for simplifying shapes will be useful like SVGO's Precision option or AI's Decimal option.

Phonetics(Ruby) is necessary in Asian languages such as Chinese but just Japanese.

    Even html has it.

@William Overington @ fonts works in only certain condition. and Affinity need to support this in order to use it. it's an ancient method to implement vertical text and available only on Windows.
Modern software usually don't use @ fonts method. so vertical text need to be implemented in modern way, not @ fonts.

One quirk in Chinese (like your sample): every character, punctuation included, takes the same space. Like monospace fonts did in old typewriters. In your screenshot it appears not to work for ", 1", so it might be an issue with the used font. With for instance Songti SC there is more space between "," and "1":

Unfortunately it does not solve your issue completely, cause there should not be a line break before a comma. That's a difficulty reported already:
    or here, too:

    Hi,

I would like to see Grey Component Replacement, Under-Colour Removal and Dot Gain be added to Affinity Photo. Important for controlling the K (black) plate in CMYK printing.

Apologies in advance if this is already covered – I posted in the forums but got no reply (as below).

In Affinity Photo, how do I manipulate Gray Component Replacement (GCR), Under Colour Removal (UCR) and dot gain settings? In Photoshop, it is accessed via the ‘Color Settings’ dialog box, go to the ‘Working Spaces’  part of the dialog box, click the drop-down menu for CMYK and select Custom CMYK.

Vital for controlling the important black plate (channel) on press.

I work a lot with Japanese texts and this would be my request feature number 1.
When you are writing in horizontal, you can change your selected text to vertical orientation. (When I tried , that bar didn't flip from horizontal to vertical.)
    Like this example: (カレー).
(This is wrong writing)    x  (This is acceptable)
        カ                                            カ
        レ                                            レ
    x  ー                                     >      |
That also works inside Text Editor for mac, when you go to Layout Orientation > Vertical.
My other suggestion is to add something like World and iPages that is called > Phonetic Guide Text. (It's used for both Japanese and Chinese called Furigana or Ruby)
Japanese Indesign has all these features for writing in Japanese too.
    Arigatou!

    Hi Dear,
We need to layout text vertically and it will be great if you can support from right to left show text(characters). This kind of text layout is the most important feature for national culture. We knonw Chinese, Japanese, Korean and many people need it!
Looking forward to using this new feature as soon as possible:)

ashf reacted to lynzrand in Support typesetting for CJK text
I'm a designer in China, and Affinity products are gaining popularity here because of its low price and easy-to-use tools. It would be even nicer if we can get better typesetting results for CJK text, such as dealing with CJK punctuations properly (avoid line start and end while placing punctuations (标点避头尾), as well as aligning CJK characters in grids due to their block-y nature, see example 1), and having true up-to-down, right-to-left vertical text (instead of rotating text and/or squeezing multiline text, see example 2).
Surely I know this is going to be a tough work to figure out all the rules when typesetting CJK text and implementing them, but it would pay back greatly by gaining even more users in eastern Asia (I suppose).

    Examples:
    1.

A paragraph of Chinese text in Affinity Publisher. Notice the square closing quotation mark (up) and full-width comma (down) are not directly after their contents.

The same paragraph in Adobe InDesign. The line feed points and punctuation glyph widths are modified to fit the punctuations in line.
    2.

A paragraph of vertical text in Adobe InDesign.

The current workaround to create vertical text in Affinity softwares. Notice the misplaced punctuations and latin letters.

To be clear, I'm using Adobe InDesign only for comparison. I'm not saying that it's perfect. In fact, it's the inconsistency of shortcuts and gestures among Adobe softwares that drew me to the Affinity family. Affinity softwares are fantasic, but it can be more fantastic if we get these features.

The source of text used in examples above, and also a great reference for Chinese typesetting:

At least I know many people in Japan have been waiting for a software that have vertical text tool other than Adobe/Corel.
