I don't think you're simply experiencing a problem with embedded fonts. It's something odd specifically with the CJK fonts, or with font subsetting.

You might have the "users who complain" check to see if their applications offer the option to embed the complete fonts in the PDF, rather than a subset. Affinity offers that option, and using it is often the only way to get a PDF to work completely correctly in Affinity even if Affinity creates it.

Problem is that it's often a pdf given by their client.
So it's hard to ask them to recreate the PDF as requested.

The first link in the thread you linked to goes to a locked pdf (ahd2000.pdf). If I unlock it so I can see the encoding...there isn't any encoding. There are simply characters with a hint as to the character collection.

However, I can, with the unlocked pdf, copy the text to (in this case) my text editor and then from the text editor to APub properly. Because I can go through an intermediary application, yes, perhaps Serif could deal with non-encoded glyphs better--but as I cannot read the language, "properly" in the previous sentence is subject to review by a person such as yourself who can read it.

I know it's locked, just ignore it.
Try the attached pdf I created.

Or when you substitute with an appropriate font. But yes, if you do not have an appropriate font, you cannot Open that PDF. You could Place it using PassThrough mode, but that is all.

Your Feature Request was to be able to substitute with another font. My point was that you can already do that, either permanently (two ways) or temporarily (Font Manager).

Right, just substitute was not enough.
Fundamental problem is that there's no way to fix garbled text without having the same font on the computer.

    Absolutely not...

Wanna deal with a PDF's fonts, open it and sub fonts. Need it, once one has dealt with embedded fonts after that? Then copy the desired elements to the working file.

Well, it's probably not just matter of the font applied. encoding conversion may be related also.
Embedded fonts are totally useless in our language.(CJK)
Whatever font I apply to it, it's still garbled text.
So probably need better encoding conversion or something besides substituting fonts.

  5. I know this has been requested multiple times, but Affinity really need to be fixed the way of handling alpha channel on import/export.

The alpha should be exported as alpha, not transparency.
RGB channel should not be matted(erased) where alpha is 100% on export.(at least need an option to select)
The transparency and the alpha should be treated differently.
The alpha channel should be imported as an alpha channel without adding the matt to RGB channels.

Hi @Mikairi006 This other thread may provide some information for you as Photo doesn't have the same export options available as PS.

Affinity does not export the alpha channel as alpha channel, it become transparency instead of alpha channel.
It's possible to export by using mask layer/pixel with erase mode but it breaks RGB channel unlike TGA.(refer the topic below)
Affinity really needs to be fixed the way of handling alpha and its compatibility with other apps.
The alpha should be handled as alpha.

  7. Translation for the Geometry is inconsistent between Mac and Windows.

    Suggestion:
    Add - 追加
    Subtract - 型抜き
    Intersect - 交差
    Xor - 中マド
    Divide - 分割

I referred Adobe's translation. they are using casual words instead of technical terms.

Also I suggest you to change the translation for Merge Curves to カーブをまとめる
Current translation カーブを結合 is also used as the translation for Join Curves of the Node tool so it's confusing.
