Thank you, but It's not useful when the text is separated in many objects scattered all over the canvas.

PDF compatibility problem with embedded fonts.

Problem is that it's often a pdf given by their client. So it's hard to ask them to recreate the PDF as requested. -
PDF compatibility problem with embedded fonts.
ashf replied to ashf's topic in Feedback for the V1 Affinity Suite of Products
It seems that Affinity can show text with embedded fonts properly if the PDF is created by Affinity itself. Users who complain garbled text says they used an app such as these: Microsoft Office Adobe Illustrator Tex(dvipdfmx) macOS' print to pdf -

Right, just substitute was not enough. Fundamental problem is that there's no way to fix garbled text without having the same font on the computer. -

Text is still garbled without that option. It's shown properly only when the font is available on the computer. -
Well, it's probably not just matter of the font applied. encoding conversion may be related also. Embedded fonts are totally useless in our language.(CJK) Whatever font I apply to it, it's still garbled text. So probably need better encoding conversion or something besides substituting fonts.

PDF compatibility problem with embedded fonts.
ashf replied to ashf's topic in Feedback for the V1 Affinity Suite of Products
Also sometimes embedded fonts are garbled even if they are available on the computer. I can not upload the pdf directly here since it's a confidential document. I will send you if you invite me to Dropbox or something. -
Affinity should have an option to substitute fonts with the font manager for PDF as well.

When I open a PDF, embedded fonts are garbled if they are not available on the computer. This might be compatibility problem of the encoding of the font. When will this be fixed? I found related topic https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/82519-japanese-fonts-in-pdf-not-displaying-correctly/ https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/63218-about-the-replace-missing-fonts-japanese-fonts/ embedded-fonts-ai.pdf embedded-fonts-affinity.pdf

Alpha channel handling on import/export
ashf replied to ashf's topic in Feedback for Affinity Photo V1 on Desktop
Thank you, I saw that before. This suggestion also can be used. but none of method can export proper alpha in tiff format. -
I know this has been requested multiple times, but Affinity really need to be fixed the way of handling alpha channel on import/export. The alpha should be exported as alpha, not transparency. RGB channel should not be matted(erased) where alpha is 100% on export.(at least need an option to select) The transparency and the alpha should be treated differently. The alpha channel should be imported as an alpha channel without adding the matt to RGB channels.
-
Affinity does not export the alpha channel as alpha channel, it become transparency instead of alpha channel. It's possible to export by using mask layer/pixel with erase mode but it breaks RGB channel unlike TGA.(refer the topic below) Affinity really needs to be fixed the way of handling alpha and its compatibility with other apps. The alpha should be handled as alpha.

iOS keyboard Live Conversion bug
ashf replied to ashf's topic in Feedback for Affinity Designer V1 on iPad
@Jon PRegarding to compatibility with IME, please don't forget about this too. -
I will post the bugs in 1.10 beta here. The first bug is that Publisher crashes if I type Japanese when the text cursor is at outside of the text frame.(by text overflow)

This bug still exists in 1.9.2.

Embedding fonts in PDF
ashf replied to inkster's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
No, the font must be installed on your computer. Otherwise, the font will be altered by the default font. -
Suggestions for Japanese UI
ashf replied to ashf's topic in Feedback for the V1 Affinity Suite of Products
Translation for the Geometry is inconsistent between Mac and Windows. Suggestion: Add - 追加 Subtract - 型抜き Intersect - 交差 Xor - 中マド Divide - 分割 I referred Adobe's translation. they are using casual words instead of technical terms. Also I suggest you to change the translation for Merge Curves to カーブをまとめる Current translation カーブを結合 is also used as the translation for Join Curves of the Node tool so it's confusing.- 112 replies
