Stretch/Transform seamless?
markbowen replied to kjs's topic in Feedback for Affinity Photo V1 on Desktop
Can I ask, how you scale a selection in AP? I can copy the selection onto a new layer and stretch it (and I don't get the white line) but possibly not understanding how you're able to stretch a selection? Thanks. -
Layer opacity vs. fill
markbowen replied to mso1977's topic in Feedback for Affinity Photo V1 on Desktop
You are quite right, I apologise. I had misunderstood. Would yes be nice to get a proper fill slider definitely. Best wishes, Mark -
Wow! Thank you for the seriously kind comments. I'm very new to photomanipulation although have been editing images and what-not ever since the first version of the behemoth PS came out so it's nice to see all that learning be able to be put to some use. Just need to find a way to make money from it all now! :-) Thanks again for the kind words. Hope you have a great week. Best wishes, Mark

Seems to work fine here. Is this not what you meant? https://streamable.com/hre88 -
Layer opacity vs. fill
markbowen replied to mso1977's topic in Feedback for Affinity Photo V1 on Desktop
Seemed to here when I tried it although didn't try in all the ways that it has been used in the past. I painted on a layer then added some FX to the layer then lowered the fill to 0. The effects stayed applied but the painted part wasn't there so seems to be doing some right at least? -
Layer opacity vs. fill

And can somebody please tell me why I've not seen that there before!! Good catch! -
There IS a workaround however I add my voice to getting a colour range selection tool too as I know that Serif would make an awesome one. What you can do is a little long-winded but can work well. 1) Duplicate (Apple / Command J) the layer you're wanting to make a selection on. 2) Add an HSL adjustment layer to the newly copied layer. 3) Use the tools in there to select the colour range you want. 4) Change the colour using the Hue Shift and Saturation Shift sliders radically! When you have a good 'selection' change this layers blending mode to Difference. Add Black & White and Levels adjustment layers above those two layers and adjust so you get closer to the result you're after. You can then use Edit->Copy Merged then Edit->Paste to get one pixel layer with everything in and then use the paint brush in overlay mode to help speed things up there a bit. You should then end up with a black and white image which you can use as a mask for your image. I know, I know, a fairly convoluted process for something which would be great if it were built-in so hopefully Serif will add something like this in the future. Would definitely be greatly appreciated. Hope that helps a bit in the meantime though. Once you have done it a few times then it's a fairly quick process. Best wishes, Mark

As per this post here - When using the Lens Filter adjustment layer and clicking on the colour swatch there is a noise slider directly beneath it which both doesn't do anything and also doesn't remember what you set it to. If it doesn't do anything with that filter (maybe others too) then perhaps it should be hidden (removed)? Thanks, Mark

Blurs applied to group not maskable?
markbowen replied to markbowen's topic in V1 Bugs found on macOS
Brilliant. Thanks very much. Thought it may have been my misunderstanding of how things work as AP just keeps on amazing me with new things every day. Don't stop the fantastic work Serif, it is seriously appreciated. Best wishes, Mark -
Adjustment Layer Error E.mp4 Could be something silly I'm doing or not understanding properly or a setting I've overlooked ... but... I had some circular shapes which I grouped and then applied a Motion Blur live adjustment layer to the group. That worked fine and the blur works. I then went to mask out some of the blur but the mask never does anything. Dragging the mask out of the group and above it instantly applied the effect I was looking for though. Screencast attached. Thanks, Mark

Not sure if this has been asked for before (did look but may not have used the correct search term). Would love it if when painting onto a mask and setting the brush mode to Overlay if it would do like it does in many other applications. When using black it will not paint over white and the same in reverse. Currently blend modes make no difference at all when painting into a mask which makes creating masks a longer process. Having said that, I'm not sure what the elves at Serif did exactly but in 1.7.2 the refine dialogue masks out images about 1000% quicker than before so thank you very very much for that! Absolutely stellar job! Best wishes, Mark

error loading brushes with new update 172
markbowen replied to UTZ's topic in V1 Bugs found on macOS
Many thanks for the update Gabe. Really hope this makes it out as an update really soon as finding work very difficult at the moment without being able to load brushes in. Best wishes, Mark -
Layer opacity vs. fill
markbowen replied to mso1977's topic in Feedback for Affinity Photo V1 on Desktop
Definitely second (or however many now) this request. Some sorts of effects are really difficult to achieve (or take a lot more steps) without having this slider. -
Brush stroke recording
markbowen replied to Vofyn's topic in Feedback for Affinity Photo V1 on Desktop
Yep would love something like this too. Currently using ScreenFlow which works admirably well on my old spec Mac Pro (2011) but something like that would seriously bring down the power / hard-drive space / editing requirement.- 12 replies
