Yes, this is essential. Especially with the 'grid' function as in InDesign.

GeoffM33 got a reaction from William Overington in Publisher slug line please
It would be great if Affinity Publisher had the option for slug lines outside the print area as well as bleed. That way you can draw folding marks to guide the print partner for finishing jobs like book jackets. To do this currently I have to put an oversized bleed on the affected sides, draw the dotted lines in there and put up with the trim marks being a long way off the page. This may not fit on the printing plate/sheet. See attached sample of a dummy book jacket made as a theatre prop.
    Thanks!

GeoffM33 got a reaction from PaoloT in Publisher feature request - Gutters vertical & horizontal
I've been trying to set up  a data merge sheet for a typical Avery label template which only has vertical gutters but no horizontal gutters. I've got a work-around suggested by forum members, but it would be nice to be able to specify horizontal and vertical gutters separately. Indeed, it would be great to be able to do this on ordinary page layouts too.
See attached for an example label template from Avery.

GeoffM33 got a reaction from Old Bruce in Photo curves adjustment grey colour space.
Whilst experimenting with alternate ways to make a black & white version of an image I tried the live curves adjustment layer and chose the grey colour space in the curves drop-down. Adjust the curve in the usual way and the image becomes mono (but we knew that). It can then be saved out as a mono pic. Good. I then looked in the Master curves drop down and found options for "intensity" and "alpha". Alpha does not seem to be relevant for this exercise, but "intensity" has some dramatic effects. You can get some really crackling old style black & white results by juggling Master and Intensity settings. Put a selective colour adjustment (or similar) layer under the curves layer and you can further modify/target the curves results.
So why am I posting this? 1. To share it, and 2. to ask what "intensity" is and why it behaves as described above. What is its official purpose?
    Yours, intrigued, GM

Is it possible to print colour separations from Affinity Publisher, or indeed any Affinity app? Or is this a function of the printer driver? If the apps are to be used in a professional printer's production environment, this will be needed.

GeoffM33 got a reaction from Yaco in Stroke and rules styles
I have not found it yet, but is there/could there be an option to choose a stroke style like double rules thin/thick etc (see InDesign or Quark [remember that?]). This would be useful when designing traditional looking documents. You can fake it by using multiple objects, but that's messy. It doesn't exist in Affinity Designer, but it would be of little use there in an illustration app.

GeoffM33 got a reaction from Burndog in Tables
I suggest the ability to import tabbed text and/or spreadsheet files so you can select and click a "convert to table" button (say) to avoid manually populating an empty table. You could then style the result in the usual way.

GeoffM33 got a reaction from bagmetv in Display special (hidden) characters
Is it possible to display hidden characters like carriage returns, new line/line break, tab strokes, various spaces, and so forth to aid control of text? This could also be helpful in Photo, though is less important. Can this be added if it's not already there? It's available in Publisher as one would expect, but...
I see there is a discussion in relation to tabs, but a wider implementation would be great.
    Thanks, GM

GeoffM33 got a reaction from cubesquareredux in Rasterised graphics in PDFs
I just made some print quality PDFs from a test APub file. The file contained some placed ADes vector graphics which should have rendered as vector, but they came out as rasterised. I'd placed the ADes vectors as native not EPS or similar.
I got around the problem by taking the PDF into ADes and replacing the offending logos with the ADes originals.

GeoffM33 got a reaction from Fixx in Place/import PDF trims hidden
I like this idea - very direct.
However, in addition it would be useful to have global import options as mentioned by Chris_K so that multi-page imports can be more easily managed. I have mentioned multi-page PDF import in another post recently. How about a fully loaded cursor (like the multiple image import method) so each page of the PDF can dropped in where needed. We use these methods all the time at work to plan up client's multi-page PDFs for printing. We are a small company and cannot afford the high price of specialised imposition software. Keep up the good work!
P.S. I just tried a work-round prompted by Fixx's comment. (Can't get at placed PDF content yet with crop tool.) I placed a PDF which should show trims etc, and then clicked 'edit document'. In the edit tab, select all the imported PDF 'trims' layer and note the dimensions. Deselect. Click 'spread set up' and enter the dimensions in there (uncheck the constrain button). The page now includes all the printer's marks. Go back to the main document and the PDF now shows all the printer's marks with a nice accurate bounding box. It works, but is a bit of a hack.

GeoffM33 got a reaction from Wosven in Text styles short cuts
Excellent! It also works if you select the text box with the move tool and right click "Apply style_1 and next styles". We don't yet have text box and picture box styles, but a styled text box can be stored in the Assets pane, but it doesn't work as well as your suggestion.
