    Hi @dizeyner
It sounds like you are using Designer and the Vector Crop tool, as @R C-R suggested

Designer in default, document mode is a 'page layout program'. A bit like a single page version of Quark, InDesign or even (at a stretch) Word. In that case it works exactly like every other page layout program. You create pages and place objects on the page, then print it out, maybe with bleed and crop marks. You cannot trim Word or Quark pages to an image placed on the page!
If you want to create a canvas type document, that you can then crop to a single image you need to either use Photo, which is designed for that sort of thing, which is why it has a canvas crop tool. That works pretty much exactly like any other image editing program. The crop tool crops, you have preset aspect ratios, can enter a size etc. Drag and crop!
Designer is much better than Quark, Word etc because if you use artboards, you can trim to what you want, just like Photo.
If you have a page, click on the Artboard Tool, select Document and Insert Artboard. You can then "crop" the page by dragging the handles.

That will convert your page (document) into an Artboard.

Dragging a handle to resize an Artboard to "crop" the canvas.

You can also convert a selection on the page to an Artboard to save you the trouble of moving handles to crop it afterwards.

It will then be cropped to your selection.

It is even possible to convert the cropped Artboard back into a normal document (a page) by going Layer > Convert Artboard to Object. but there is no real reason to do this.
That is really no more work or no harder that using Photo, which would be the normal canvas based program for that sort of operation. Try doing any of that in Quark or Word !!!

There is also the option to create slices, either from a dragged selection area, or from a selection. It's all very flexible for a 'page layout program'.

toltec got a reaction from Alfred in how do I get tooltips?
    Not sure what you mean?.

There is the Status Bar at the very bottom of the Program window.

This is on when you choose a tool and it displays options relevant to the tool selected. If you can't see it, is the bottom of your window off the screen?
They won't appear unless you have a document open!

There are the pop-up tool-tips that display when you hover over a tool. You can change the delay (how quickly they appear) in Edit > Preferences > User Interface.

Then there are the tips on the Toolbar. If you right click on the Toolbar, choose Icons and Text to display them.

toltec got a reaction from Alfred in Why not activate a soft proof layer from the get-go?
All soft proofing does is temporarily adjust the image you see so that it matches the final print better. If you did it from the beginning, you permanently alter the image.
Soft proofing compensates for the fact that you monitor cannot match the output from a professional printer. Lots of reasons for that.
However, because the soft proofing layer matches by distorting the colours in your image, you do not want to send the distorted image to be printed.
e.g. if your monitor made the image on your screen look too blue. a soft proof layer would reduce the blue in the image so that it looked better (less blue). But, because the soft proof layer has removed blue from the image, if you sent the altered image to the printer, there would not be enough blue in the image any more. So turn the layer off.
As I said, it is purely a temporary method of adjusting what you see locally.

So how much was the two year subscription to Adobe compared to a one off licence fee for Affinity Photo on Windows ?
With that sort of money saving, you could pay someone to update the apps for you and still be better off
If you have so much money to waste, I'm surprised you are even considering a move from Adobe

I don’t have the book handy but you can Inpaint a pixel selection area using the Filters Studio.
Make a pixel selection first, select the Fill filter and set the mode to Inpainting.

    Why ?
There are hundreds of plug-ins that people buy for Photoshop. I bought several, including green screen software because Photoshop didn’t do it.
By your measure, Photoshop is hopeless?
You could buy Photo, plus a tracing software for a fraction of the cost of Illustrator (or get Inkscape). I have used tracing software from the days of Adobe Streamline and I think Inkscape is better. But none are that good, so I rarely use them.
Designer does 96% of what I want for 20% of the cost of Illustrator (which does 99%). Designer is getting better with free upgrades, so far.

    Hi @nikolai.ylirotu

You have the channels hidden and no layer selected. Select a layer first.
Make the channels visible by clicking on the rounded arrow (circled).
    Right click on a channel.

If you want to do it from a mask, obviously you need to create one first.

toltec got a reaction from Kiarian in Affinity Designer Synchronise Defaults
    @Kiarian
    I isn't really a "synchronise from defaults"
What it does is set the attributes of the selected item to be the current settings. "Defaults" is a bit misleading. "Set as current" would be better.
If you want to save opacity, set the opacity in here

Go, Edit > Defaults > Save
When you click on this one,

It will apply whatever you saved as the current attributes for everything (including opacity if set in the context toolbar swatch, as shown) for shapes or closed paths. If something is selected, it applies the attributes to that.

The reason Serif doesn't want to invest into Linux is because open source software users have a reputation for not wanting to pay for software. It is a widely held belief that they want everything for FREE. Very few Linux users support development of software for the Linux platform which is why, rightly, Serif doesn't want to tread into the waters. And everyone has a very good excuse/reason for not wanting to fund Linux platform development or software development for Linux. Why would Serif want to invest into Linux when they see users won't support development for existing Linux software?

If you use the Fill tool set to bitmap and bring a square object in to a square rectangle the edges will snap, see guides, Set Wrap off and Maintain aspect ratio off.

Set Maintain aspect and Wrap back on.

    There might be better ways?

    I've no idea, sorry.
Serif seem - from what I have observed - to follow the very sensible (in my opinion) path of only releasing things when they are ready to be released instead of rushing to publish on arbitrary dates whether it's all good or not.
I, for one, would prefer to wait and get something brilliant rather than get something disappointing:

toltec reacted to Gabe in How can I change the noise/opacity setting for a global colour?
    Hi both,
Global Colours are not designed to work with opacity and noise. If used in conjunction with Spot colour, both noise and opacity will screw up the print. I believe this was deliberate not linked to the global colours to avoid any complications further down the line. You can create a colour, add noise, make it global and add it to your assets. But any changes to noise/opacity would only be applied on an object by object basis.
    Thanks,
    Gabe.

The question has to be, why ?
Serif customers have been *patiently waiting years for Publisher.
    Still, feel free

I was going to ask the same thing but you beat me too it. I have no idea what anyone could reasonably expect such a request to accomplish. They have made it extremely clear why they have no intension of developing Linux versions, at least until the other projects are out the door, so what is the point of beating this thoroughly & unequivocally totally dead horse any more?
