I agree that the "expanded version" should be the default. Its what most people would expect.

Basically i would like that when i'm adjusting the control handle of a curve with the node tool it automatically snap to the axis of the opposite control handle direction to get a smooth curve. 
 
I know this can be achieved changing a cusp node to a smooth one, but usually when we do this the software adjusts both control handle positions, meaning we loose the original position of the control handle we weren´t touching. Then we have to readjust the curve again.
 
With this improvement i can quickly get a smooth curve messing with just one control handle knowing that it will snap to the exact axis to get a smooth curve without screwing up the other control handle position.
 
This could be achieved trough the use of a modifier key. I would prefer the software do this automatically by default (pressing the modifier key would make it to override the snap). But it could be the other way around (only snapping when we press the modifier key).

Going to force myself to start some better habits...
...like using layers
...or not plotting all my points first, and bending afterward (ya know, proper pen tool usage)
...or not relying on deleting nodes to form cleaner shapes 
 
If you guys watched the way I currently work with vectors, you would probably all think I'm insane.

You're not alone. I use it the same way. I've created a post a few hours before asking exactly why the content placed on the pasteboard area wasn't showing up.

I don't know about EPS, but AI (and PDF) are in development and will be supported. More info in this thread here.

I'm still working on it, but here's a drawing of a Miura for you to play with in Designer. If anybody fancies improving it and sending it back that would be fantastic! :)

If you're looking for a light interface (like iPhoto), there's no way to get it as far as i know. I think they went with a dark interface because they are positioning Affinity Designer as a professional application. And like other pro apps on the Mac (Motion, Final Cut Pro, Adobe CC etc) they all feature a dark interface.

That's strange. It's working fine on my system. If i move the Background Gray Level to the right, the background becomes white, if i move to the left, it becomes black. Check this video
