MEB got a reaction from clonkel in clip and mask within a group
    Hi @clonkel,
    Welcome to affinity Forums
You have the labels in the canvas on your screenshot in the wrong position (on the left the label should be mask and on the right it's clip). With that cleared:

    - In the Clip case (that is the example on the right on your screenshot), the Blur filter only affects the area within the shape because it's clipped by the shape thus its boundaries remain sharp and only the area within it gets affected by the blur (if you increase the blur the pink colour will start to fade away due to increased "blurriness").

    - In the Mask case (that is the example on the left on your screenshot), the Blur filter affects the whole layer it's attached to (nested to), thus the whole square star shape and "everything around" it (that is the whole layer/empty space around the shape), gets affected, blurring the shape's boundaries as well.

    Hi @HpR, @jknights,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums
Affinity Photo is similar to Photoshop where you typically work with one photo at a time rather than Lightroom, On1 Photo RAW etc which are geared towards photographer's workflows/needs. There's no library/cataloging or browser views/management, or ways to apply the same settings to several photos from a photoshoot and similar functionality. So you either have to use it in conjunction with a third party photo management/cataloging app or consider another app entirely according to your needs.
It's possible we may provide a DAM at a later date but for now there's no such funcionality available.

MEB reacted to Komatös in Block layers when I open a esp file from freepik
Hello @ai-2021 and welcome to the forums.
EPS and AI files contain a proprietary data block in which various information for layers and effects is stored. Third-party programs cannot read this block. This can lead to misrepresentations.

MEB reacted to GarryP in [New 1.2] Free Vector Tools for Windows 10 Users
    New in Version 1.2:
Tracks Function – Create many types of rotational designs. Routes Selector – You have a choice of the order in which most designs are drawn. Colour Schemes – Seven new schemes. New Shapes – Spikeys, Flowers, Rectelipses (Squircles), Quaternates, and path versions of other shapes. Code Viewer – Improved viewing options. Fields – You can now determine if the shape positions are automatically recalculated. I recently published an update to Canny Vectors which is an application that allows Windows 10 users to create various vector designs that can be used in the Affinity applications – as native Affinity layers – or saved as SVG files to be used anywhere you use SVGs. I had the Affinity applications in mind when I was developing the software but you can probably use the output anywhere that can use an SVG.
It is not meant to be the greatest vector application ever, or anything like that; it’s just a small collection of simple tools which might come in useful every now and again and save you a little bit of time here and there. And it's completely free with no ads.
At the moment it has five functions:
    Grids – regular orthogonal grids of shapes;
    Fields – a collection of randomly placed shapes;
Panes – an area covered with randomly altered lines or shapes.
Centrics – Create ‘concentric’ shapes, and more.
    Tracks - Create rotational designs.
Each function has various options with which you can vary what the software creates, so there’s lots to experiment with.
The application comes with a user guide – written using the Affinity applications – which I have attached to this post:
I’ve attached some example images and a video of each function showing just some of what you can do.
Please do not make bug reports or make feature requests for this software in these forums; I’m sure the Serif staff don’t want that extra hassle. Use the in-app functionality instead, or you can rate/review the software in the App Store.
If you want to make a feature request, please read the notes in Part 8 of the user guide before making the request (some requests/suggestions may be ignored). (You might be able to PM me via the forums as long as the discussion doesn't go on for too long.)
If you do use the software, and find some good uses for it, then it might be nice if you could show some examples here for other people to see.
You can find and install the software via this link: https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9P3H0SH7XK02
Or you can get it via the Microsoft Store here: ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9P3H0SH7XK02
Why not give it a try and see what you can create?

MEB got a reaction from Trevor Reid in selection to vector path
    Hi kirk23,
It's also quicker to start with/generate a selection automatically then simply adjust the paths as needed after converting it, than to create the paths from scratch specially with complex objects. This is logged as an improvement but i have no idea if or when will be implemented.

MEB got a reaction from SrPx in Dither Gradients Preference and Gradient Banding?
    Hi Darin,
It's better to leave Dither Gradients checked as this will help to remove/eliminate the banding when creating gradients no matter if you are working with 8 bit or 16 bit images (although you will get better results with 16bit + dither).

MEB got a reaction from AffinityJan in Document statistic: Time spent by work session and total time spent on document file.
I know it may sound weird at first glance, but it's quite useful. Keep track of the time you spent working on each file by session and the total time spent since the beginning of the project (sum of all sessions). It's a little unusual for an illustration program but it's a cool statistic to have both for tracking the time for billing purposes and even for personal info. That info will be saved with the document file itself and updated every time you work on that file again.
    What do you think?

MEB got a reaction from dedebenui in Crop Canvas in Affinity Designer?
    Hi VIPStephan,
You don't need to go through all that trouble. Just select the objects, go to File ▸ Export and select Selection with background (or without background) from the Area dropdown in the Export dialog. Only the three objects and the background area behind them will be exported. Usually document based crops are only used when working with single photos where they are the single elements on the composition, not so much in designs/layouts where the images are just a part (an element) of the whole composition/layout and usually the document size is already fixed to a specific dimension from beginning (paper dimensions for example). I understand that in some cases it may be practical to have a quick way to resize the canvas - even for design/layouts - but for that cases you can always convert the existing canvas into an artboard which you can easily resize with the Move Tool or with the Transform panel if you need to set a specific dimension. I believe some users are not aware of the ability to resize artboards directly with the Move Tool. In any case this is already in the Feature Requests section as you pointed out.

MEB got a reaction from — Miriam in Affinity Photo: stroke a selection
No, you can only change the thickness of the selection going to menu Select ▸ Outline, then filling it with a colour as @coranda described.
There's plans to implement a command to convert a selection to a path (which you can then fill/stroke as a regular shape) but for now there's no way to stroke the selection directly.

MEB got a reaction from albertkinng in Affinity Designer do stuff by itself...Is this a Bug or Not?
    Hi @albertkinng.
If you are converting object to curves accidentally you are probably pressing cmd+Enter. This is a command shortcut you can change in Affinity Designer Preferences, setting the first dropdown to Designer and the second to Layer and changing the corresponding shortcut ("Convert to Curves") in the list below to something else.

If the canvas/artboards start rotating you are probably pressing cmd and scrolling the scroll-wheel. You can disable this behaviour going to Affinity Designer Preferences, Tools section and unticking Enable canvas rotation with cmd+scroll-wheel.

MEB got a reaction from xman in export persona create different dimmensions than artboard
    Hi @bajqo,
It's because artboards in Designer are just a special type of object, not independent entities/canvas on their own. So like any other object they can be positioned on non-integer values as well converted between objects/artboards (menu Layer > Convert Object to Artboard and vice versa), used in power duplicate operations to create grids of artboards (for icon design for example) etc. We hope to improve this in future to "force" artboards to export at their specified dimensions, no matter their X,Y coordinates/placement on the workspace.
If you enable Force Pixel Alignment and disable Move by whole pixels, you should be able to drag them a bit by their label (on the top left of the artboard) and they will snap to integer pixel values for you without having to mess with the input fields in the Transform panel.
