PDF Export Error - PDF/FX4 - Affinity Photo - Mac

The print service I'm using specifies exporting to PDF/FX4 and for some reason I keep receiving an error message for all print-related PDF export options except "PDF (Flatten)", which is the option I don't want. It's been a while since I've had to export for print and I haven't seen this before. I've restarted Affinity Photo and my laptop--any other recommendations?
I'm on a MacBook Pro, OS Catalina 10.15.7, Affinity Photo 1.8.6
UPDATE: I was able to export to PDF/FX4 after converting all text to curves.
