  1. Apologies if this is the wrong forum to post this, it is not clear where to request support for installation issues. I am trying to reinstall affinity designer on my laptop (windows 10 home). During install it says it needs to install the .net framework. It starts extracting the files but then says 'an error was encountered. unspecified error'. item installation failed. Microsoft .net framework 4.6.2. Error code: 16389. Setup will now exit.
  2. I'm am using artboards but these are the options I see. I am using the windows version, if it is different from the ios version perhaps there is a bug? I've unticked transparent background in the doc settings but it makes no difference, the artboards still get exported with a transparent background when exported as PNG-24. The only way I have found to export PNG-24 with a background is to change the export 'matt' option (which defaults to transparent) but it's not going to be practical to do this for every individual artboard.
  3. My artboards are being exported without backgrounds. In a previous answer it was stated that he export settings dialogue had 3 options: whole document, selection with background and selection without background. In my export settings I have only whole document, artboard1, artboard2 etc How is this done now?
  4. Hi I'm having some problems with the ios10 ui kit, I assume this is shipped with AD, I can't remember sourcing it from elsewhere. Specifically, the component parts of ui elements don't scale uniformly. For example, if you take a toggle switch and scale it up the rounded rectangles radius remain unchanged and so the whole thing changes shape. Compare this to the grade ui kit toggle button, which scales uniformly. Testing a few components reveals that much of the ios10 kit is the same and so pretty unusable. Another thing I note is if I want to scale a shape in proportion one kit requires shift and click drag, but the other does not.
  5. All I can say is jeeze - do you have a UX guy there? Thanks for the replies, I'm going to try an digest these suggestions.
  6. The point is if the default effect doesn't do anything then I don't even get an example of what it can do for me to accept or modify. What if I'm not sure what an effect can do? Do I just then slide the adjustments randomly? What's the big deal in giving me a default setting for me to use or modify? Why do you defend do nothing? Don't defend the status quo unless there is a real benefit for you in leaving it as is. I think there is a real benefit for some of us to have a default setting. It's just lazy of the dev team to leave effects zero'd.
  7. I think the problem is partially due to everything being within artboards and then subgroups so I have to double click to get into the artboard, then double click to get into the group, then very carefully line up on an object to select it. I am repeatedly clicking and not selecting what I want. I can't seem to just click and drag to select multiple objects. When I try I just end up selecting the entire artboard and dragging everything off it. Many objects are not filled and are only 1px. It's just not practical to continuously zoom in to select them. This is a real problem for me. I don't know if it's just the windows version but this is such a problem it's flaring up my rsi. As a long time Adobe user I've not come across anything like it and it's going to make me stop using Affinity Designer. I tried the setting you suggested without success but really why would that not be set by default. I've had a number of problems that have been resolved by flicking a setting that I wonder why it even exists: I really do think AD has too many settings. It's like these problems are identified and settings shoved in to resolve them. Adding more tools and settings is Adobe mentality. If something can be made better change it don't just add new tool or setting.
  8. As I said I don;t really care what the default is I'd just like them to be a) retain my last setting and b) do something - it's sometimes not obvious what an effect does so it's better to have a starting point rather than nothing, which leaves me thinking that effect doesn't do much. As for copying effects and pasting them, yeah that's fine if you're happy for two tasks instead of one but I have deadlines.
  9. Adobe manage it. Any default would be a good start. It's very annoying that out of the box most of the effects have no effect.
  10. Why are there no default settings for shadows, glows etc? Why doesn't AD remember when I change an effect so that I can then go on to apply the same effect setting to other objects?
  11. I've got a UI design with 20+ artboards and I want them all exported as separate jpges or pngs, how can I do this without exporting each artboard individually? thanks
  12. I think the main problem I and others have is if a doc has hundreds of layers it is practically impossible to find the layer in the panel. I'd like to see when you try to select a locked layer, that it is highlighted in some fashion on the page and gets selected in the layers panel. As far as locking the layer via a padlock on the actual layer, instead of the padlock only being visible when the layers locked, just change it to a toggle switch.
  13. Hi, can this be added to your list of feature requests, thanks
  14. maybe, I just assumed that as AD was no longer in beta this forum was now the place for product specific questions. And the questions forum was for non product specific questions. If we aren't supposed to use this forum any more it could be locked to further posts.
  15. I wouldn't like to click a layer have it do nothing, then have to try another way of selecting it (right click etc), I would prefer that if I try to select locked layer it get selected but see a red bounding border if it is locked. I think this would work much better than the previous suggestion. On a related issue I think that it would be nice to be able to lock layers directly in the layers panel nor have to select the layer and then move off teh layer up to the lock icon.
  16. Yes I am using Affinity Designer on Windows. It would seem that my rectangles etc were actually converted to paths somehow when exported to psd, so I had to select the path. I still think that selecting a 1px line with the very tip of the selection arrow is difficult. Can't you expand the hit size a little? This is really detracting form my abilty to use AD. When there are hundreds of layers it's not always easy to identify the one you want.
  17. I am having a hard time selecting objects. It would seem that the hit area is very small and the exact tip of the arrow has to be exactly on the vector line. I think you need to increase this hit area. Is there an option to highlight the selected object on hover?
  18. I'm not overly impressed that there's a preference for 'show selection in layers panel', I can't think why anyone would want this off by default if at all. Anyway I am having real problems selecting objects.I'll create another post to explain.
  19. It would seem that once objects are put on the artboard they become sub elements like the artboard is a group. The move tool can't then select the artboard. Only if the artboard is selected in the layers panel can it be resized.
  20. I can resize artboards with the move tool when they are empty. But when there's something on the artboard I can't resize it. Is this how it should be?
  21. I am really surprised I have to ask this. So I create a logo and want export it with a transparent background as either a gif or png. First problem is how to a crop the document excess size down to the logo? The vector crop tool doesn't seem suitable and drawing an artboard the exact size is a bit hit and miss. Then when it comes to export as gif or png there doesn't seem to be any transparency options. Coming from Fireworks I am finding AD a real usability shock.
  22. This is going to take some getting used to. Thanks for the info.
