I know to some this may seem to be going too deep, but one feature that would be tremendously helpful in Affinity Designer for UI work is the ability to rename multiple layers or find and replace in a selection of multiple layers. When creating a lot of different similar layers, it's great to make a selection and be able to add or change a folder prefix, for instance. Adding the ability to create a shortcut for renaming a current layer also helps make things just a bit faster in heavy workflows. I use these in plugin form elsewhere and it saves tons of time.

smallreflection reacted to Leigh in [FAQ] The app's canvas is not white. What's happening?
This is a common issue on Windows and is normally caused by the colour profile (ICC profile) used by your display/device. Colour profiles are normally provided by the manufacturer of your display/device or a third party creator.  If your document is showing an off white canvas, it's possible to workaround this issue by changing your display's colour profile to sRGB IEC61966-2.1 but we would recommend that you contact the manufacturer of your display/device or the creator of your specific ICC profile to discuss this issue further.
    To do this:
Search for Colour Management from the Start menu and click to open. In the Devices tab, select the correct monitor from the Devices dropdown menu and make sure Use my settings for this device is selected. Now click Add... and select sRGB IEC61966-2.1 from the list and click OK. The sRGB IEC61966-2.1 profile should now appear in the Profiles associated with this device: section.
If there is already a profile associated with the monitor, please use the Remove option first, to ensure the monitor is using the newly appointed sRGB profile. Select the profile and click Set as Default Profile to make it the default. Close the Colour Management window and restart your Affinity app. Your canvas should now be in white as expected. If you have multiple monitors attached to your computer, please repeat the steps above by selecting your other monitor(s) from the Device dropdown first.
If you have this issue and are using a Surface Pro 3, please see this post and follow the steps to resolve the issue.

So I found myself wanting to come up with a basic stipple brush, of a more vector-style and less painterly variety. Going for that more retro-modern shading look inside of vectors that's quite popular these days. Pretty basic, but I think this is what I was going for! Works best sticking to applying with straight paths, no vector handles. The nice thing shading this way is you can vary the opacity and get quite a nice buildup on top of gradients. I threw together this trippy abstract to give them a go.   :)

Edit: Sorry, this post seems to have gotten mysteriously duplicated, and the attachment isn't showing up here consistently.

+1 for list view option/categorizing/sort of symbols. For lots of symbols, a quick-search box inset in the panel would also be great (same for Layers panel).

This beta is an iteration of the current App Store release and should be used in preference to the App Store release, if you are affected by any of the issues listed below.

    Fixes/Improvements:
Improved Pressure response in pixel tools. Fix for 3D profile crash and Blend Ranges dialog crash. Fix for missing Place Image Tool icon. Fixed Korean Hangul text entry. Vector export improvements. Fix for failures when using compound objects inside groups with Constraints set on them. Font support improvements - specifically relating to fonts which substitute spaces or have truncated Unicode CMAP tables. Transparent TGA import support + misc TIFF loading fixes. Fix for deleting a node of a bitmap fill causing crash. Improved pixel painting smoothing. Any pixel-based painting tools should now have better smoothing by default. Fix for combo boxes causing crashes for certain users on High Sierra. Fix for exporting JPEG automatically choosing to export clips as paths which is a poor default and causes confusion. Fix for text objects being created outside the hierarchy of the artboard they were supposed to be created in. Fix for rotated text bounding boxes being incorrect and for disappearing text following Power-Duplicate. Fixed sporadic hanging when opening many image files at once. Fixed crashing bug when exporting certain large PSDs. Fixed a number of UI memory leaks. Added special case PSD import code for “SketchClub” PSD files (they should fix this!). Fixed PSD export of Fill layers. Fixed UI labels on macOS versions prior to Mavericks. SVG import can now handle gradients with missing x1 or y1 values. Assorted PDF export improvements. Localisation improvements. Paste and file-drop of PDF format files will now honour the DPI, as per File->Place. Fix for marching ants not showing on a rotated canvas. Miscellaneous other fixes and tweaks.

I'm a Rightfont user and i've tested Fontbase, but on Windows and i think that the behaviour is the same on MacOS. When you activate a font in rightfont it will remain activated even if you close it, but fontbase deactivate it as soon as you close it... If fontbase keep fonts active after close it would be a really good alternative...
I have a folder on Google drive where i place my fonts and sync between my machines. I've droped it on fontbase and it's good to go if you keep it's windows open.

I agree, some sort of blend tool is an essential part of a designers tool kit. My wish would be for a smart blend tool that is interactive in how it's implemented (number of steps, spline replace or adjustment, transparency opacity on beginning and/or end...)

    Hello,

I'm testing the app and let me say it's very promising.

One thing I'm missing now is the ability to copy & paste vector between this and other apps, like Fontlab, Glyphs and Illustrator. I can do this between these apps and it is very handy, me being a type designer and using more than one app at the same time.

Also a tool similar to Illustrator's Blend Tool would be nice, maybe extrapolation as an extra added :)

    Brilliant work, anyway!

    Best,
    Frank

Firstly, an explanation: So... why did Beta 11 take me such a long time to release? Well, it turns out that the released version of High Sierra showed stability issues with the Metal view mode that the High Sierra Beta didn't. I don't know why and it doesn't seem to have been fixed yet, but as such I could no longer set everyone's default view to the Metal view as they would potentially get a poor experience. We've got our existing OpenGL view there to fall back to, but it's now missing some tweaks and features that the Metal view had been given - so I just spent the last 2 weeks completely rewriting the OpenGL view mode to have parity with the Metal view. So, this new OpenGL view is now in and is set to the default for all users. I will add the legacy OpenGL view mode back in for the next Beta for customers that may suffer very specific GPU-related issues (I can't imagine there will be any, but just in case...). The new OpenGL view should be a little faster at all times and should get rid of some of the long-standing issues that people were seeing - but let me know how it goes!!!

So... on with the next Beta!

This beta version represents a substantial change to our codebase and as much as we have tried to ensure the quality of the code, it should be considered to be not suitable for production use. This means that you should not attempt to use it for commercial purposes or for any other activity that may be adversely affected by the application failing. In addition it is definitely worth noting that files created in Affinity 1.6 may not open in 1.5 so always make a copy of your important documents before opening them in 1.6 to ensure you do not accidentally overwrite them and are unable to open them in your 1.5 version.

Completely new OpenGL view (selected by default) Light-UI tweaks Pen Tool tweaked to allow a click on the selected start/end node to force a cusp Tablet input's 'Angle' and 'Tilt' are now mapped more sensibly. 'Tilt' is how far down the pen body is laid towards the device, 'Angle' is the direction formed by the pen on the device. Hi djburt,
They are being resampled because the image on right (senior teacher badge) is at 477 dpi while the document is set to 72 dpi. If you right-click on this layer and select Rasterise it will be rasterised to document's dpi (72) and the document will not be resampled on export.
