Mandu reacted to Ash in Affinity is joining the Canva family
    Hi All,

I am thrilled to announce that Affinity is joining the Canva family.
This is a moment of great excitement, anticipation, and profound gratitude for all of you who have been part of our story so far.
We know that those of you who’ve put your faith in Affinity, some since we launched our very first Mac app, will have questions about what this means for the future of our products. Since the inception of Affinity, our mission has been to empower creatives with tools that unleash their full potential, fostering a community where innovation and artistry flourish. We've worked tirelessly to challenge the status quo, delivering professional-grade creative software that is both accessible and affordable.
    None of that changes today.
In Canva, we’ve found a kindred spirit who can help us take Affinity to new levels. Their extra resources will mean we can deliver much more, much faster. Beyond that, we can forge new horizons for Affinity products, opening up a world of possibilities which previously would never have been achievable.
Canva’s revolutionary approach to design democratisation and commitment to empowering everyone to create aligns perfectly with our core values and vision. This union is a testament to what can be achieved when two companies that share a common goal of making design accessible and enjoyable for everyone come together.
I want to express my deepest gratitude to our incredible Affinity team. Your passion, dedication, and relentless pursuit of excellence have been the driving force behind our success so far, and I can’t wait to continue this journey with you all.
To our loyal users and the creative community, your support and feedback have been invaluable. You’ve inspired us to push boundaries and continuously improve, and we’re excited to embark on this new chapter together.
The future is bright, and I am incredibly excited to continue our story together and create a world where design is within everyone's reach.
    With heartfelt thanks,
    Ash

We have made four pledges to the Affinity community which you can read here. We have included some FAQs at the bottom of the announcement article here. A video message from me with some more background is on YouTube here. This announcement post is locked, but I have included a duplicate of it in the questions forum here which you can respond to.

Mandu got a reaction from FilmJamie in Cancel batch job button request
So right now I was performing some color to black/white image conversion with the batch job in AP, and after I clicked ok I realized I forgot to specify the file save location. Needles to say, my original images have started to be overwritten by the black and white version, and unfortunately I just couldn't find a way to stop the process. I pressed esc, delete, backspace, I tried to turn off the program..but nothing worked. At the end, I force stopped the application from the task manager. Fortunately I have a backup so there was no permanent damage.
What I am proposing is to either make AP automatically create a new folder (like Photoshop) without overwriting existing images, or to make some stop button...Or to have both options in the checkbox style, to create a new folder in the same location, or to overwrite existing files. Or maybe the simplest solution could be for AP to create some sort of name/number extension if the file is saved in the same location where another file with the same name already exists.

A video import option would be great, whether thats streaming video from Vimeo or actually inserted into the document. Then being able to output as a PDF and send to clients would be invaluable. I appreciate it would create larger files but this is way better option that filling a document full of links.
    Great product so far

    Thanks

Hello, this design is the concept for a client about coffee from Indonesia.
It's uploaded on my Behance web page. Thank you
The hardest part is inability to make vector patterns. In theory I could just duplicate each line, but that would make thousands and AD as powerful as it is, can't handle it, so I had to convert everything into a bitmap image which is not what I wanted. Also, I needed to make vector based patterns on a stroke, but that's not possible (yet at least).

I've always been attracted to Art Nouveau imagery, particularly that of the brilliant Alphonse Mucha, who is largely accredited for starting that appealing type of graphic art. I wanted to wrap my mind around the specific aspects of the craft of which this practice drawing is the first attempt. I plan to do more Art Nouveau all vector drawings in the future, unlike this image that contains both vector and bitmap embedded files. Technically this image is some sort of blend of Art Nouveau and Art Deco, the latter being the successor of the first art movement, I guess.

Mandu got a reaction from Venkatt Guhesan in Pixel layer + curve(shape) boolean operations
Hello all. I would like to request a feature that would enable use of boolean operations between pixel layers, pixel and curve layers together. Right now, only curves and shapes such as rectangles can use boolean operations. Just like for vector booleans, pixel booleans would ignore rgb information and use only pixel location.

On the other hand, Adjustement layers can only be merged with pixel layers and not with curves and shapes. I would like to request a feature that would allow users to merge adjustement layers with vector based layers. That would be useful simply because active adjustement layers prevent users from properly assigning colors from the color wheel.
Thank you. Looking forward towards using Affinity 1.7

About 40 years ago I had a Matchbox catalog in my hand, in which I saw an illustration similar to this one. It was probably part of an advertisement for a new series of miniature cars. I remembered it because I really liked the concept. Unfortunately, I don't know where exactly I saw this picture. I searched the brochures available on the web but couldn't find it. So I decided to recreate it from memory. The old ads were fantastic!

I think I’ve probably ‘faffed about’ with this for long enough so it’s time to ‘release it into the wild’ and “go out and do something less boring instead” (as the song, which some members of a certain age might remember, goes).
All done – except for certain stock images – in Affinity Designer and Photo.
It’s just an experimental thing, not a real product.

Patterns are still the big Achilles heel of affinity.  Please include vector patterns or at least the ability to add them to the palette in bitmap format. This is the only reason why I keep using illustrator. Affinity vs Illustrator:

Here is a golden ratio template I use as a starting point for all my projects. Ive converted this to Affinity for you guys. It's a template file so double clicking will create a new document and leave the template untouched. Use it to build graphics with a little extra 'can't put my finger on it magic'.
My 'Nz' avatar is angled at a specific angle to attract the eye for example.

Mandu reacted to v_kyr in Animated New Year fireworks
There are several ways to do animations, the boring way is to do it with a bunch of saved still image drawings and then arranging them to be shown/played as a continiously sequence of image flow in some animated GIF (or some movie record from images software) like for example "GIF Brewery (MacOS)".
Since that's (for my taste) always a little too time consuming for things like animating fireworks, I've instead (as initially said) programmed the fireworks animation and also used some mouse click interactivity (...the heart rocket explosions) to that. - Basically you can use any programming language you know or like for such things (Java, C#, C++/C, Swift, ... etc.). - I've in this case used "Python" scripting language with a "Pygame" module/add-on and recorded (screencasted) the program execution for a few seconds!
