No, the original frame was the size of 2 text lines. You can test this yourself in 5 seconds. Just make a text block with text. Cut any text of character, paste it and you will see what I'm talking about.

Hello all. This is a small problem I encountered while editing my page. When I have a text block and from that block I cut words, then paste while nothing is selected, I get a huge box that goes out of screen. I highlighted with yellow on the screen capture where I cut the part of the text, and when I pasted, the big block marked with red color appeared. This is inefficient. In my experience with Indesign, the pasted text should have a text block that matches the size of the text.

RIght now there is an option to "import styles..." in the text styles pannel options menu. So I'm assuming there is or there should be an option to save text styles on a file, but I can't find it. Is there such option yet? If there is no, I think it would be great to have that ability for the sake of convenience. With each update, all interface things get a reset. So having an option to restore styles from a file would be useful, as well as restoring the entire UI layout.

Now I'm having 2 images in my document. I want to apply vignette filters on each of the images, and I just realized that vinette as well as other filters only affect the entire document, not just layers. Is it possible to change this so that I can use filtes on local layer level instead of on central level?

Is there anybody who needs to embed their images in the file? For 10+ years of working in InDesign I literally never needed to embed images. InDesign had a "package" feature that combined all used images and fonts into a folder that would be used for sending it to the printer's office for printing.

Yes, this seems to be one of the first things many people have noticed. I as well made a topic on the subject, and others have pointed me to the bug regarding this issue. So, yes, it is not supposed to be that way. Just be more patient, and wait for the next release...

The name "vector crop" perfectly fits because the tool does exactly what the name implies -- it crops the image with a vector object which is in this case a rectangle. Vector Crop is essentially image clipping mask that clips it with a vector rectangle. You can see that in the layers tab.

I think when Photo and Vector persona become available, other tools within those personas (such as the straight line tool) will become available. Publisher is not AD or AP so there is no point of replicating all tools available in other software.

Did you know this? I thought about it, tried it, and to my surprise it worked! Publisher opened and handled .CR2 files just like any other files. I wanted to share this with everybody because it is a great feature that is missing from Adobe InDesign. Now I no longer have to convert raw files to jpeg in order to use them for design. Thank you.

Ahh, the awkwardness of google translate. I'm guessing this has something to do with Japanese characters not formatting properly and until that has been fixed, the transition from Adobe to Affinity is low.

Hello good people. I'm thankful for having Publisher, and I hope to replace inDesign with Publisher soon. Right off the bat, with just8 linked images and nothing else, file size is 78Mbs, while the exact same InDesign file is just a couple of Mbs. Images are big 5k x 4k, and file size is big 2k pix x 15k pix. Now, I'm not saying that this is some sort of a big problem, but why does it make such big files, what for? Another thing is regarding sending images to AP for adjustments. I noticed I can't copy/paste between Publisher and AP. At this point we don't know what will Vector and Photo persona do within Publisher, but it would be nice to have some sort of tool/option that sends images from Publisher to AP or AD and opposite for fine tuning. In InDesign this feature is called "edit in..." and it gives you the option in which software do you want to open your image and you access it by right-clicking on an image. Now this is something important. What is unique in Publisher in comparison to other Affinity apps beside other things is Picture Frame tool. This tool behaves differently than usual item mask or clipping mask that we use in AP and AD. I wish there is an option that allows me to place or import or simply drop images directly in Picture Frame. In inDesign all images that get imported by any means are automatically within Picture Frame. Right now I have to manually place all images into Picture Frame which is fine for small amount of images but gets time consuming if there are many images. Picture Frame tool. It is a bit clumsy because as soon as I move the image within the Picture Frame, the frame itself resets the properties from auto scale to none. And from that point there is no way to scale the image, but I have to click again to the frame properties in the navigation bar at the top and change the scale option in order to continue scaling my image. This is way too complicated and unnecessary. Also, there is one option missing: fit frame to image. If you ask me the entire thing in the frame properties should be called image fitting and not scaling. Because why would you not want to scale the image. What you may or may not want could be rather about fitting the frame to an image and image to the frame as opposed to scaling it. Thank you for reading.

Thank you for the long anticipated Affinity Publisher. Right now it is obvious that Publisher has the same base as AP and AD which is OK but editorial design software should have a different basis. Have you ever opened Adobe Indesign? Well, in Indesign, all images are linked....because..it is simply not viable to embed hundreds or thousands of images, right? In Publisher, all images are embedded by default which makes things bad in few ways: 1. computer is getting out of memory, 2. file size is exponentially increasing, 3. program becomes more unstable the more images it contains. That is why Adobe Indesign has an option which allows you to change the quality of a preview. All images placed in Indesign have medium quality preview, because if you have thousand images of original quality preview (at least a few megabytes for each image) in a single file, would crash the program. No computer can handle that. Right off the bat, my Publisher file size was around 200mb with around 15-20 embedded images. This is unacceptable since we are not talking about AP file that contains a single large, high quality photo. Publisher file size should be at most a couple of mbs, just like Indesign files. So my suggestion for starters would be to place (import) all images as linked by default, or have a pop up window that asks users right away how would they like their images, as embedded or as linked. Right now resource manager doesn't allow for a batch change of embedded files to linked, which is obviously a problem if we are talking about huge number of images that requireto be changed manually one by one. Edit: Conclusion as of this point: Right now, Publisher feels no different than AD, except that it has pages instead of artboards.

I think a more intuitive solution would be to present a user upon an import with a pop up window that asks how would you like your new images to imported, as linked, or as embedded. And then If you want to change something you can go to the resource manager and batch change files. Your suggestion refers to an individual element (image). Imagine you are working on encyclopedia book with 5000 images. Are you going to click on each image and then check/uncheck embedded? And besides, you would either want all images to be embedded or linked. Having some images linked and some embedded doesn't make any sense. So anything that refers to an individual change is kind of useless.

I was hasty a bit with my post. In the document menu there is 'Font Manager' (right next to resource manager) feature that allows you to see all typefaces, locate them, and change them.

Why would you need to find and replace fonts? You have paragraph styles and character styles, don't you? You know what is the purpose of those, right? Using these in publication design is essential! In fact, I have been thought that the first thing you should do after creating a document is to set up paragraph styles for your text so that everything and anything you make or import immediately gets converted to your style that you have assigned. When the need to change a font arises, you would create a new style or change a font in the already existing style, without searching for anything.

Hello. Please see the attached image, and you will also find the original file. As you can see, the problem is that background image on the bottom part of the banner appears differently when imported and/or pasted in ADesigner. Since this is not my first "glitch" type of post that apparently happens only to me, I'm thinking that my computer is simply not up to the task. My specs are: I5-4440 cpu @ 3.1ghz, 8gb ram, gtx 650 1gb. Edit: I just realized that the clipping path curve that is holding the image gets wrongly imported into AD, which causes this problem. But why does it get distorted like this upon the import? banner.afphoto

It works here. When I click the wrap button it opens the text wrap settings and there you select which type of wrap do you want.

I'm not sure what and why but sometimes when I'm using live perspective filter with images on top of other images, they start to flicker when I zoom in/out. Part of the filtered image start to reveal the background image, and these areas change as I continue to zoom in/out. Unfortunately it also affects the save file/export. The last image is a screenshot from an exported jpeg image. First 3 screenshots are from the AP interface. Changing the render engine doesn't fix the issue. Edit: Maybe I should point out that the occurrence of this glitch is very random. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't. Edit 2: It happens mostly when I make a clipping mask and then add a life perspective image in the clipping path.

Thank you for the quick reply. When I 'place' a document, it gets imported simply as 'Image', not as 'Embedded Document' like I see on tutorials. Please tell me what I am doing wrong?

Hello all. I know that AD has the option to embed files within an active working file. But what about AP? I can't seem to find anything that resembles that function. Normally, I would simply work in AD with this feature, but in AP I make simple simulations on mockups, such as logo on a cup or on a poster where I use live filters. Live filters, or any other filters are not a part of AD so I use AP. But in AP there's no embedding files, so what do I do? Thanks in advance.
