It would be great if the crop tool had the same functionality in the develop persona as it does in the photo persona. For example, being able to set ratios, units, absolute dimensions, etc.

    Status: Beta Release
    Purpose: New features, fixes
    Requirements: Purchased Affinity Photo
    Mac App Store: Not Submitted
    Download: Here

This is the first beta of a substantial change to our codebase and as much as we have tried to ensure the quality of the code, it should be considered to be not suitable for production use. This means that you should not attempt to use it for commercial purposes or for any other activity that may be adversely affected by the application failing. In addition it is definitely worth noting that files created in Affinity 1.6 may not open in 1.5 so always make a copy of your important documents before opening them in 1.6 to ensure you do not accidentally overwrite them and are unable to open them in your 1.5 version.

To use this beta, simply download the file from the link given above and double-click on the file to open the installer. Follow the instructions to install the beta version. The beta sits alongside the Mac App Store version and will not interfere with it.

    Fixes/Improvements:
First and foremost, the 1.6 version is mainly about: Light UI! (go to Preferences->User Interface) Improved view pan/zoom performance and new pixel-differencing pixel shader Improved performance with large documents New font chooser dropdown with recents, used fonts and favourites New Glyph browser Stroke stabiliser for all pencil and brush tools Align to key items (first/last selected) Text frame vertical alignment options Fit frame to text (double-click on bottom centre handle). Transform panel uses the rotation centre Scale/shear can now be performed about rotation centre Double-click now resets shape handles and rotate/shear handles Many PDF export improvements including vector export of multi-stop gradients Numerous bug fixes and stability improvements

    Hello,

does anybody know, if there is a possibility, to use Adobe Lens Correction Profiles (*.lcp) in Affinity Photo? I use an UAV (DJI Phantom 2 Vision+) for taking pictures. Because it has a fish-eye lense, i have to correct them, before i can use them (for taking measurements). Therefore, DJI has released an Adobe Lens Correction Profiles (PHANTOM VISION FC200.lcp). In Photoshop, i can open Filter / Lens correction and choose this file, to eliminate distortion from the pictures. Is there a possibility to do it in AP, too? Maybe with an Plugin?

P.S.: See the pictures below. They show the original picture (before) and the corrected picture (after). It is very important for me, that the exact values from the Lens Correction Profile are used, because afterwards, i have to take measurements in the pictures.

Aothedorop reacted to matt.baker in Magic wand selection - Anti-alias (Photoshop feature)
At the moment it looks like the magic wand selection tool doesn't generate partially selected pixels. This results in the horrible jagged / harsh edges as below when attempting to isolate an element.

Photoshop on the other hand supports anti-aliasing which gives a smooth transition from fully opaque to fully transparent.

This feature is an absolute must in my opinion, especially for quickly cutting out well defined objects in an image / removing the background.

Feathering or smoothing the jagged edges (another extra step that shouldn't be necessary) just doesn't give as good of an effect.

Aothedorop reacted to supermundane in Two minor suggestions
    Hello,

I'm a freelance concept artist, matte-painter and illustrator and have been living with an orphaned copy of Photoshop CS5 that I purchased many years ago.

As my business depends heavily upon this software and I do not, under any circumstances wish to migrate to Adobe's Creative Cloud subscription service (a preference to purchase and own outright, the fact that a subscription model is costlier over time and Adobe's monopolistic price gouging practices) I've been seeking an alternative. Affinity Photo may just be that replacement which I can run concurrently with CS5 and over time, replace it altogether. Also, the market is in desperate need of comparable and competitive alternatives to Adobe's suite.

I'm very impressed with what I've experienced thus far after downloading the trial and with a new computer system (Win 10 Pro) arriving next week I intend to purchase it and most likely Designer.

There are a few things that I would like to see that would help with workflow tremendously. Bear with me as I'm still coming to grips with Affinity Photo.

I would like to see it possible for the palettes to be collapsible into docked icons as is possible with Photoshop.

I would like to see the right mouse button have contextual functionality depending on the tool selected - for example, the possibility to 'Deselect' or Invert Selection' et al when you right click on a selection. it feels constraining and retards workflow not be have a contextual right mouse button option

I would like to see it possible to make the horizontal toolbar more customisable - adding a drop-down brush editing palette for example.

That's about it for now. However, i will be purchasing and joining the Affinity family. Thanks for creating such a quality product that is getting very close to rivalling Photoshop, and for offering it at such as competitive price.

We can customize the main toolbar by long pressing it etc, and then add there some of the basic tools. But how about having a capability to add a filters and effects too there? Or have a own custom sidebar where to add them, so there wouldn't be need to open the list everytime to call something?

It would speed up the workflow when user could add a most used filters and effects as buttons and then just tap them to get them added?

The ability to have text automatically wrap within the boundaries of a shape / close curve.

I'm a ex-Photoshop and ex-Illustrator user, having switched almost entirely to Affinity Designer; big fan. Most of the time I create "infographics" to visually communicate business concepts and data points. The ability to have multi-line text automatically wrap within the boundaries of a shape would be amazing - doing this manually is a pain... and unless I'm certain I won't change the size, I avoid doing it manually.

I would be great if when using the brush, as soon as you held shift, it would preview a line leading to the brush tip, in order for you to visualize where the new straight line will be placed, when you click.
Ideally helper rulers would also be activated and snapping, this could help when drawing straight connected shapes.

Regardless of that, it would a great feature to have. If you want a program that offers this feature as an example, check clip studio paint.

I hope to see this in AP also, in the future.

Aothedorop reacted to Tamerlin in Affinity Video Editor?
HitFilm just got a major update... it's turning into a pretty solid editor. I'm editing an hour long video in HitFilm, and it's working out nicely. It doesn't have the metadata support yet AFAIK that Resolve and FCPX and Avid have, so I would still recommend Resolve over HitFilm for long-form, but I don't choose Premiere any longer, since I don't much like the UI. I haven't tried 2017 yet though.

I love doing color grading and light compositing in Scratch, but its audio playback engine was a deal killer; I could get smooth playback without audio, but very choppy playback with audio, so I found it to be largely unusable as an NLE other than for adjustments to conforms. I like the UI though.

The Fusion + Resolve combination is ridiculous. Ridiculous in that BMD gives so much away for so little. Even a paid Resolve license is just $1000, and once you have a dongle, you get upgrades for the price of downloading them.

And for most, the paid version is overkill. Then again, even the free version is amazingly full-featured.

Fusion is incredibly powerful, but it also has quite a learning curve. As a compositing app I think it's pretty close to Nuke, though the Nuke Studio combo of edit + compositing in a single app is pretty sweet, and hard to beat. It sounds like The Foundry is putting some focused effort on improving the performance and stability of Nuke Studio, hopefully turning it into a really solid suite. Still expensive, but I'd forgotten about the non-commercial version.

Resolve is a lot better with ordinary graphics cards now, though for color grading it still pushes the GPU rather hard.

    Hi Team,

is there any way to update the Lensfun Library which is used for lenscorrection in the AP Develop Persona?

I have a DJI Phantom 4 Professional Drone and would love to be able to do the complete development and creative process in Affinity Photo.

Apparently the Lensfun Library is used and it seems to be an older version: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/35755-lens-correction-profiles-lcp-in-ap/?p=179148
I tried using the python script provided by the library to convert an Adobe LCP file into the lensfun xml but values are different:
    <lens> <maker>DJI</maker> <model>INSPIRE 1 FC350</model> <model lang="en">fixed lens</model> <model lang="de">festes Objektiv</model> <mount>compactCamera3855776423400872093</mount> <cropfactor>5.6</cropfactor> <calibration> <distortion focal="20.7" k1="-0.132569" k2="0.101281" k3="-0.018193" model="acm" /> </calibration> </lens> Note the k1, k2 and k3 values as in the library it lloks like this:
    <lens> <maker>DJI</maker> <model>Phantom Vision FC200 & compatibles</model> <model lang="en">fixed lens</model> <model lang="de">festes Objektiv</model> <mount>dijPhantomVisionFC200</mount> <cropfactor>6</cropfactor> <type>equisolid</type> <aspect-ratio>4:3</aspect-ratio> <calibration> <distortion model="ptlens" focal="5" a="0.02707" b="-0.10021" c="-0.09787" /> <tca model="poly3" focal="5" vr="1.0002" vb="1.0007" /> </calibration> </lens> Here there are values for a,b and c.

Anybody around here who could help me get the develop persona in Affinity Photo to apply lens correction for my Pahntom 4 Pro DNGs?

    Help is highly appreciated!

Aothedorop reacted to danlhayes in Blend Options and Luminosity Masking: Blend Option Presets and Visualization
Before moving to AP I was relying on luminosity masks (implemented with one of several available plugins), and I understand I can do the same thing with blend options.  In order to visualize what I'm selecting with the Blend Options, I've been putting a brightly colored fill layer in a group, adjusting the group's Blend Options, then when I'm satisfied I can hide the fill layer and put other things in the group (maybe there's an easier way?).

It would be great have a shortcut key to instantly get a greyscale image showing what has been selected with the Blend Options.  This would make the operation seem more analogous to luminosity masks.

And from there, you could have Blending Option presets corresponding to the "traditional" luminosity levels (darks, lights, etc.).  Or I suppose that could be done with macros.

Additionally, it would be nice to be able to select a luminosity level from the image itself, and have the Blend Options automatically configured with a curve focusing on that luminosity level.

I know the inability to keep using my Luminosity Masking plugin was an obstacle for me when moving from PS, but the three things above would almost completely replace the $40 plugin I was using.

Just bought Designer with the hopes of phasing out of Illustrator. Love what I'm seeing so far, and wanted to add my 2 cents that a Live Trace option looks to be the only thing I've noticed so far that's keeping me from being able to use Designer exclusively.

Nothing fancy... I do a lot of black and white cartoon work that gets vector traced in order to bring into file prep for merchandise. I need a tight fidelity so that the hand-drawn roughness of the line quality is preserved. Black and white is necessary, though color options would be great to see.

Thanks so much for the program, and I look forward to seeing future updates!
