  1. Please consider allowing the positive direction of the horizontal and vertical rulers to be swapped independently. For example when you start with a canvas and the ruler origin is in the top left corner, the horizontal ruler is positive going to the right, and the vertical ruler is positive going down. Now consider that you move the origin to the bottom left of the canvas, it would be handy to have the vertical ruler show positive values going upwards instead of downwards. Similar to when you plot a graph with X and Y coordinates; the positive axis go to the right and up, and the negative
  2. I want to use Designer to design a layout for my garden. The garden is about 8 meters wide by 15 meters long. Is there any problems with creating a document so big? I am not planning on exporting it to a raster image - and can leave the default resolution at 72ppi. Would it be better to set my document to 8 x 15 cm and just divide all my measurements by 100? So that 1m becomes 1cm in the document? I just don't want to get so far in and find that performance becomes sluggish.
  3. Both Photo and Designer (I don't use Publisher to check) have a new "My Account" button that allows you to view and manage your purchases. As an example, with Photo 1.9 I can log in with my account in and see the new free resources, and all previous ones I purchased: - 20 Fog Overlays by Paper Farms - 20 Rain Overlas by Paper Farms etc... I downloaded all of them using the "My Account" feature in Photo. Now, when I switch to the "My Account" feature from Designer, they are not listed as installed, instead I have to download them a second time. (1) Where are the assets s
  4. Hi Cayenne. As John mentions just after your post - these programs provide a means to 'hook' in to the scanner functionality by using TWAIN or WIA drivers. For example in Photoshop you go to File > Import > WIA... and then it calls up the scanner driver/interface, you perform your san and it imports in to Photoshop as a new canvas. At this point the file is not saved, but you can edit it (if required) and then save or export it as desired. I'm sure it isn't THAT much effort to provide this, especially given the fact that their legacy product Serif PhotoPlus has the ability to do it
  5. That is incredibly disappointing to hear that this isn't a consideration. Most other software including The GIMP, Corel Paint Shop Pro, and Photoshop all provide this functionality.
  6. I tried some of the suggestions on the link, unfortunately they did not help, the CPU still jumps to 100% usage regardless of: * Setting Ram usage to max, or lower than half (32 gb) - no difference in performance * Setting the display to "WARP" performance was worse. *Changing view quality down to Nearest Neighbour - no difference in performance
  7. ...and here is a screenshot showing Task Manager which shows it's Affinity Photo taking over 97% of the CPU, and 'high power usage'. I have the most up-to-date drivers for my GPU, and Windows Update says it's up-to-date (no updates available). Malwarebytes didn't find anything, and neither did Windows Defender. It's definitely Affinity Photo as this screenshot shows - and as soon as I stop dragging the gradient mid point and let go of the mouse the CPU usage drops to less than 3%. Then if I drag it again the CPU spikes to 100%. Even My browser with 14 tabs open in the background is o
  8. I've noticed that I am getting 100% CPU usage on seemingly basic tasks in Affinity Photo. Take this as an example (screenshot below with task manager open - notice the spike in CPU which is when I click and hold on the mid point of the gradient to adjust it). (1) Create a new document that is: A4 size, 300dpi, 16-bit RGB (2) Create a single pixel layer (3) Use the linear gradient tool to draw a gradient on the document that goes from white to any other colour (4) drag the handle that controls the mid-point of the gradient While holding down the mouse button and draggin
  9. I am unable to replicate this. I tried starting from a new "Letter" sized document 11 inches by 8.5 inches at 300 dpi. I drew a rectangle and snapped the edges to the edges of the document bounds. When exporting to PNG I do not get the line. Suggestions: (1) Try adjust the snap settings in the toolbar at the top to see if they make a difference - check if "force pixel alignment" is on, and "move by whole pixels". (2) If you are looking at your PNG file in Affinity Photo - there is a display bug where it does not draw the edges of the image correctly depending on the 'zoom' leve
  10. Strokes that are aligned to the inside of shapes/paths allow the shape fill to extend beyond them, instead of having the exact same edge. To replicate this bug in Affinity Designer 1.8.3.641 on Windows 10... (1) Create a new A4 document with white background (not transparent) (2) Use the rectangle tool and create a rectangle 100mm by 100mm anywhere on the document. (3) Fill the rectangle with black, no stroke is necessary for this (4) Now use the ellipse tool and create a circle 50mm by 50mm, filled with red, and place it on top of the black square and roughly in the
  11. I have downloaded the free "iconic templates" for designer, but every file that I open comes up with warning about missing fonts. After a few seconds the warning dissappears. 1) How can I check/view the names of all missing fonts in the files that I open once the warning message dissappears? 2) If anyone from Affinity is reading this, or anyone who also downloaded the examples - where can I buy / download the missing fonts from?
  12. This does exactly what I was after, thank you. Nice gif / screen capture too - that was a very helpful demo!
  13. In Affinity Designer 1.7.1 - I have used "Print Screen" on they keyboard to capture my desktop, then pasted the image in to my document. I've used the 'vector crop' tool to isolate just the portion I want. Now how to I discard the cropped areas? What I mean is, Affinity 'remembers' the entire image so that if I want to change the crop area it hasn't lost the original complete pasted image. I want to force it to forget these extra unwanted pixels so that it takes up less file size. Is this possible?
  14. Any update on these features? Also, the video links no longer work.
  15. I have some kind of zoom/redraw bug in both Affinity Designer 1.6.5.123 and Affinity Photo 1.6.5.123. In Designer, I can create a new document A4, 300ppi. Draw a rectangle shape filled with black, and stretch it in all directions so that it snaps to the document bounds. Now if I zoom in and out with the scroll wheel, at various zoom levels the rectangle appears as if it does not quite meet the document bounds on random edges. For example the top and left sides appear to have a 1 pixel gap and are white or show the transparancy grid beneath. If I change the zoom level the edges with the 'g
  16. Anyone else have a print quality with their Affinity Photo Workbook? I have both Designer and Photo one and noticed that all the diagrams in the Photo version, where there should be a blue line/arrow pointing out specific parts of the interface, it dissappears as if the blank ink has overprinted it. The Designer workbook (left) does not have this problem).
  17. I'd also like to know as I currently use a 1080p monitor and am looking to either a 4k screen or a multiple monitor setup. Yorkshire Lad - what screen size if your monitor? e.g. 28 inch? Could the interface be too small because of the physical size of the screen?
  18. Please don’t do it as another persona. Personas are a really jarring experience and having to switch to a new layout just to use a specific tool is frustrating. Why can’t it just be done so that it works in the currently selected layer? If I want to trace multiple layers I can merge them first. Much more intuitive.
  19. TANGENT: A straight line or plane that touches a curve or curved surface at a point, but if extended does not cross it at that point.
  20. I do love Designer and Photo and I am now looking for more precision so with that in mind please look at the accuracy of your program - with regards to the following: 1) When using the pen tool and snapping to a curve, if I zoom in using the super zooming ability of Designer, at a high enough zoom level the snapped node is actually not touching the curve at all. 2) Please allow me to specify more than 1 decimal place on all text and paragraphs properties I.e. leaning, font size, kerning, character spacing... when designing text to fit an exact area, it is very useful
  21. Agreed, JohaWeber. Besides, if precision wasnt needed, there would be no need to 'snap' to anything and we could just eyeball it all Psenda suggests. Luckilly I have found a work around - it is possible to snap to tangents using regular (manual) drawing techniques. It's a few extra steps, but at lest it can be done. For those of you interested, check out this video I found - I can mimic the technique in Affinity Designer using the snap to centre and intersections, and drawing a circle using the right mouse button to define the diameter. For now at least, I can work around this. https://ww
  22. Hi I would find it really helpful to be able to draw lines and circles that are tangent to either 1 or 2 existing circles. I have a link here that shows what I am talking about - it is a program called AutoCAD https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=autocad+snap+to+tangent&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-b&gfe_rd=cr&dcr=0&ei=UpkJWsC7CebG8Aft1I-oAg#gfe_rd=cr&kpvalbx=1 Thanks Rob
  23. Tom Schülke - I agree it is it anti aliasing, I just tried creating a circle with segments and snapped the edges together - there are still gaps between the segments even when its created from scratch entirely in Designer. Exporting the file to jpeg and the problem still persists. MEB - can you pass this on to the programmers/developers as this is definately a problem (see attached screenshot) as the white pixels are visible between the segments even though the edges are snapped to each other. It's most noticable on the far left bright red segment where is meets the slightly brighter segm
  24. The video is no longer available - can you upload it again as I would like to see this
