For what it is worth Topaz DeNoise 5 also worked properly with AP. However I have found that the noise removal functionality in AP was as good as that in DeNoise 5 and, perhaps, better.

While have not tested DeNoise 6 against AP I have found that AP's built-in functionality has largely eliminated my need to run pretty much any plugin.

Ah. I should have thought about object removal as I am often doing some of that manually to remove people walking through photographs.

Thank you, both MBd and DWright. I will look into the Noise Reduction and Exposure Merging videos as I had not thought about those uses.

    UPDATE:

I watched all of the videos and now I can say that I am officially impressed. I had expected to have to do a fair amount of work, but AP has made it all effortless, or nearly so.

Thank you to both the posters for linking to the videos and to the developers for creating this editor.

The subscription/purchase discussion has been a hot subject since Adobe announced their CC version. Personally I prefer the purchase option for a couple of reasons - I already had the base products and the upgrade cost was not that much when compared to someone who would have to buy the initial product at a much higher price and I was not sure that I wanted to continue to upgrade yearly. That is, I thought that at some point I would stop upgrading and be able to keep and use the (purchased) apps that I already had. I could not do that with the subscription.

However, having said that, the truth is that deciding to keep your purchased products and continue using them also implies that you intend to keep your OS and other products and not upgrade them since an OS upgrade could easily cause your purchased products to stop working. Thus, in a sense, stopping and keeping an existing product like Photoshop implies the freezing of your entire system. If not now, then sometime in the future.

The subject is a bit complex and, I think, people are more driven by their fears (Adobe is going to raise the monthly fee to something I can not pay and then I will have to buy the product or find an alternative) than by a simple analysis of their options. While I think that my decision to not move to the subscription model was right in that I now have replaced PS with Affinity Photo and I have a purchased copy of Lightroom. Since I use LR very little I think my decision was right for me, but I sometimes think that others who decide to stay on the purchase model may not be thinking of the consequences down the road.

MikeFromMesa got a reaction from anon1 in Pano terminology question
I have seen repeated references to the "Panorama Persona" in posts by the staff, but don't know if the Pano functionality is really a "Persona". There is no Pano persona icon on the UI so I was just wondering if persona is the proper term. It is not that the name is so important by itself, but I don't want to be referring to a persona that does not exist.

So, is the Pano functionality a "persona"? Thanks.

I have not had a lot of images to process lately so I have not been using or watching APB much for the past few weeks. Today I noticed that sometime in that time the developers have added Panorama functionality to APB and I tried it out on some of my panos.

I typically have used an external application since the Lightroom 6 Pano functionality does not work very well and cannot stitch some of my panos. I tried the new APB Pano on some of those images and it does a wonderful job. Bravo and thank you. Any plans to do HDR as well?

MikeFromMesa got a reaction from anon1 in Unlocking the transparency
I have addressed the issue by using Topaz's photoFXlab plugin. I assume Topaz designed that plugin for exactly this kind of situation since it solves the problem. AP and APB will run the photoFXlab plugin properly and it, in turn, will run all of the Topaz plugins properly so the process of calling the Topaz plugins becomes a two step process - call photoFXlab from AP and then call the plugin (or plugins) from photoFXlab.

By the way, I have reported the unlock spelling error to Topaz although they have done nothing about it these past 6 months.

MikeFromMesa got a reaction from PatrickH in Unlocking the transparency
The release notes for the latest beta said that there were some improvements to the PS compatible plugin processing so I tried to use Topaz's ReMask 4. Previously I was presented a message telling me that I needed to create a duplicate layer (even though one existed), but this time I got the message:

Transparency is locked, please unclock the transparency.

Clearly this message means that I should "unlock" the transparency, not "unclock" it (and I filed a minor bug report about that) but can anyone tell me how to "unlock the transparency" on a single background layer? All I have done is open a raw image, make no adjustments and go directly to the Photo Persona. The layer is selected and a duplicate created so no adjustments have been made (beyond anything AP might do automatically when the image was opened). What am I being asked to do?

    Thanks.

Clearly you are free to give or withhold information as you choose, but it seems to me to be a reasonable request that you share what you are doing when you open a raw image when it is in connection with a posted complaint about how long processing takes. Posting the thread indicated that you wanted to share information with the community so requests for further details seems not only reasonable but pertinent.

When I see such a response my immediate reaction is to wonder why you are unwilling to share such information. There is no personal information being requested, just what adjustments you are automatically applying. Such information seems very relevant to me.

MikeFromMesa got a reaction from AltisKa in Moving AP from one computer to another
I know that the number of AP installations allowed per license number is limited so if I wish to move AP from one computer to another how do I do that?

Do I need to somehow "deactivate" my current usage before I uninstall (as with Photoshop)? If so, how? If not, how do I keep from exceeding the license limitation? Since I have AP installed on only one computer I assume installing it on another machine is OK and will not exceed my limits, but how, in general, are we supposed to handle new machine installations?

I am glad to hear that no one has given up and that there is still work going on concerning this issue.

I know I have said it before but if the developers would give us the ability to call an external editor it would solve a lot of these problems for a lot of us.

I have not heard anything back from either the moderators or the developers concerning marketing two versions, but then I have not heard anything back from them concerning anything about the expected, but still lacking, functionality. As I mentioned in my post, this stuff is more of a "nice to have" rather than a "must have", but it would be nice to hear something, even if to say that nothing is going on now. At least some of the speculation could be addressed.

As far as my English usage, I keep thinking about some Churchillian quote concerning using prepositions at the end of sentences. For me, when in doubt, find some expert who agrees with you, even if you have to make up the quote.

I had assumed that the exif code was being handled by the app as xml as that is what it is. That would mean that adding extra exif information only required adding more xml nodes at the end of the current child list and that would not require shoving anything anywhere.

Are you saying that the information is being stored as a series of string variables and that there are 21 extra lines left open in case more need to be added? I am sorry, but that sounds to me like a really odd engineering approach. Of course it is not my business as I am not part of the staff.

All of the postings on this forum have been devoted to issues directly involving the proper functioning of APB first and now AP that no one has posted any photo editing challenges. I understand this because, until recently, AP was still a work in progress but now that the app has been released I wonder if it would not be time to have some separate forum for challenges on how to use AP to correct or enhance existing images.

Is anyone interested? Can the Moderators create a separate section of this forum for that task?

It seems to me that it would be a good teaching tool.
