James Rodriguez got a reaction from François R in Descenders cut in layers panel
Persists in v2.0.3.

James Rodriguez got a reaction from Jowday in Flush Space
I'd like to request a 'Flush Space' be added to Publisher's Insert menu, please. In InDesign, this invisible white space ensures proper spacing of groups of text when using Justified All Lines. Kinda hard to describe so let David Blatner explain here.

v139 to v140 worked as advertised. Thanks.

James Rodriguez reacted to Ally Landry in Hyperlinks
Hyperlinks HAVE to be in the next update rollout. Modern publishing software cannot do without it. Its an intrinsic part of modern graphics work.

James Rodriguez reacted to Old Bruce in Layers Panel: "Add Layer" icon bottom right corner uncomfortably close & cropped to right edge of panel.
And it is Backasswards, the Trashcan is in the right place but the Layer icon is moved out of place to the right. I am on 139 and I too don't recall if it was like your screen shot previously.
Try restarting the program with the Control key held down and clear the settings, or maybe just restart it ordinarily.

I know exactly what you are talking about. I use it to centre a diamond dingbat that is in between the Issue Number and a Date in our leaflets.
Very handy indeed.

James Rodriguez got a reaction from Patrick Connor in Preferences > General > Enable "Save"... Incomplete sentence at end of description.
More cropped UI elements using 'Large UI Size'… note the 3 Radio Button options at the top of the Spread Setup dialog box, their last characters are incomplete. Same aberration in Typography panel.

Only a problem when I use large Font UI Size elsewhere in Preferences, but as this isn't an issue in Photo or Designer, so shouldn't it be in Publisher.

James Rodriguez reacted to jer in NEW Affinity Designer tutorial (Cowboy Dog character beer label)
Phew! Completed! If I added up the hours it took they would wrap around the earth 12x... For me, here is why it was such a great learning experience:
[Oh, first off, I do use the pen tool a lot so I was not hung up there. I'm not fast with it but I can make a curve take pretty much any shape and I use the different node types.]
1. Didn't know before that you would want to put hi-lights on top of hi-lights and shadows on top of shadows. That was an eye-opener.
2. Crisscrossing between Inner Shadow effect, Color/gradient, and Transparency gradient were fun and extended my knowledge of these tools.
3. More precise use of layer opacity (and effects opacity) than I've used before in relation to the other settings employed.
4. Surprised by the non-use of textures (just using lighting effects did it all). I thought, "A dog, so there will be textures." I can see that could have been an approach, but for this project, I like the final texture without using texture.
Kevin, thanks for the challenge and education! I encourage others who have not done your tutorial to dig in.

James Rodriguez got a reaction from EugenioCault in NEW Affinity Designer tutorial (Cowboy Dog character beer label)
Thanks for the tutorial, Kevin, learned a lot. Someone above did it in one day? Took me four!
I pretty much followed it out the window, but with the leaves I used Elliptical instead of Linear option for Transparency. It gave the leaves a more organic appearance, plus I blurred each half 2px and tinkered with their centers. And I changed the nose, and color of his shades.

James Rodriguez got a reaction from Renzatic in Affinity Photo and Blender
I'm chuckling. You guys pinpoint exactly my fear of Blender (or any new software)—rewiring my brain. I got very comfortable with Adobe and resented their forcing me to learn AD. And yeah, there was a slow down and cussing and LOTS of videos. LightWave to Modo wasn't so bad because they're similar, but oh my god did I pull my hair out. And that's the agony I'm afraid of; Blender NOT being like Modo—stupid, I know. I'll try to stick with Blender for a few reasons: it's free, it's additional 3D knowledge under my belt, and learning anything new is always good for my brain.

Hey, no problem. If you have any more questions, feel free to kick them my way.
Oh, another nice thing to keep in mind is that if you don't know the hotkey for something (or a hotkey doesn't exist), you can search for the command and execute it just by hitting the spacebar, and typing what you're looking for. For example, if you want to perform a bridge, all you do is hit space, type "bri", and you'll see "Bridge Edge Loops" pop up in the menu. I found that to be one of the nicer things about Blender.
edit: Oh, you'll probably be tempted to switch the select button from the right mouse to the left. I greatly suggest against this, since doing so breaks a few actions in Blender.

It might be worth your while to consider playing with the various options under the Interface and Input tabs, just to see what works most comfortably for you.
To get the best Modo-like feel out of it, I'd suggest checking out your various options under View Manipulation, particularly auto-depth, zoom to mouse cursor, and rotate around selection. Under input, set the zoom style to dolly, with horizontal manipulation.
YMMV, but I find this set up to the be the most comfortable. Also, consider turning on the pie menus. I have no idea why they're not active by default, but they make navigating through Blender so, so much more convenient.

James Rodriguez got a reaction from JackSwyr in How do I make a time warp effect?
You're welcome, Jack. Check your email, sent you AP link to DropBox.
Play with the layers, although you prolly won't be able to figure some things out because I rasterized 1 or 2 steps. But the Path layer (Curve Layer) is there—the Pen Tool. You're gonna have to buckle down with training & education if you wanna do anything with photo editing.
Best of luck.

Goodness, this is beautiful work, George! I'm in love with it.
Question: In your wires there are a series of straight lines across the ferns (if that's the right name). At a glance they kinda look like someone took a pen and scribbled them out. Are those lines controlling object blends, or gradients or what?
