  1. Oh yes, it does work as a standalone, but as I am also a DxO Photolab user, I will usually do the 'perspective' corrections from there. I mostly use a wide-angle lens, so I need these corrections. If it is indeed the 'host' (Affinity) I wonder whether it could be fixed over here.
  2. OK, it took me yesterday afternoon and this morning to run through each and every Nik6 module on AP 2.1.1 and MacOS Ventura 13.4.1, because I had several other updates to do. I can confirm that all modules, except for Nik Perspective work fine and that changes made with the different modules can be saved back to Affinity Photo. I always make a new layer before using any plugin. The reason why Nik Perspective does not work would be due to a characteristic of AP:
  3. The last couple of days I updated Nik to 6.1.1. and Affinity Photo to 2.1.1. System to Ventura 13.4.1. All seems well, but not much testing done (yet).
  4. Meanwhile DxO has rolled out Nik 6.1. I learned about this is in a Facebook group. So I updated AP to 2.1 again. Downloaded Nik 6.1, uninstalled the previous version using the uninstaller, installed the new 6.1 version and voilà. Things now are back to normal.
  5. The newest Nik6 works with AP2, but do not further update from v.2.0.4 to 2.1, because there is an incompatibility. I was on 2.1 but rolled back to 2.1. Further... and I see that this has been reported in this discussion: Perspective Efex still does not work on AP. You'll get a 'warning' when you launch it.
  6. I wonder... 1) are you on Mac or on PC? I can only advise if you're on Mac. 2) what version of AP are you running v.1.x or v.2.x? 3) what version of Nik Collection are you running. There is an incompatibility between AP v.2.1 and the newest Nik6. There are other topics on this forum about this. I myself rolled back from 2.1 to 2.0.4. 4) finally, there's also a difference between AP bought from Apple's App Store and AP bought directly from Serif. I learnt it the hard way, and now only buy from Serif.
  7. As I was also having trouble with the combination Nik6 + AP 2.1, I have rolled back to v.2.0.4: no crashes and the new Nik6 works as designed.
  8. Thank you, Nathan, for your quick reply. I'll do it right away! Roll back successful. To be clear: I had no dmg file, just a previous version (v.2.0.4) of Affinity Photo. But all seems well. Am now back at v.2.0.4, where Nik6 works as designed. Hope there will soon be an update to the v.2.1 version.
  9. I can confirm that (the new) Nik6 does not work as designed in Affinity Photo v.2.1. No Save button, so have to apply a workaround (save as jpg, add as layer to afphoto file). Hope it can be fixed soon, as I am trialling Nik 6. No problem with Affinity Photo v.1.10.6. and Nik6. I still have a copy of Affinity Photo v.2.0.4 on an external hard drive. Can I just drag it back to my internal SSD, thereby overwriting the newer 2.1, or is 'rolling back to v.2.0' more complicated than that?
  10. I came to this forum because since installing Affinity Photo v.2.1, I quit the program, and immediately get a crash report. All I am currently doing is: •developing the RAW (CR2) •straightening the image with the crop tool (original ratio) •duplicating the bg layer (⌘-J) •Filters>Plugins>Nik Collection>Color Efex Pro 5>Pro Contrast>Dynamic Contrast •Save as afphoto file and quit the program (through Affinity Photo 2>Quit) --> crash Running AP v.2.1 on a M1 24in iMac, MacOS Ventura 13.3.1 (a) So I can confirm the above posts about crashing.
  11. I tried the trick myself late last night, and all seemed fine, even after quitting the program and launching Affinity Photo again. As we shut down the Macs every night, I booted her Mac this morning, launched Affinity Photo v.1, opened a RAW photo, developed it and in the Photo persona, I picked the crop tool. All was still fine! Thank you again for your quick reply. As long as my wife does not report any more quirks, she's good to go, and I can go on familiarising myself with v.2.
  12. Thank you, I’ll try it myself, later today or early tomorrow. Hope your suggestion works, but I’ll let you know any way.
  13. While I am slowly acquainting myself with Affinity Photo v.2 (I have been using v.1 for several years now), I am teaching my wife to use Affinity Photo v.1. She switched later than me from Photoshop to Affinity Photo. Her English is not as good as mine, so I am writing Dutch instructions for her. I realise I will have to rewrite these instructions for v.2, but I'm not yet familiar enough. Any way, it looks like some settings are different on her Mac than on mine, but I can’t find how to fix the following issue. When choosing the crop tool, my wife does not get the thirds grid overlay (while I do), but she automatically gets the straighten tool (a cross-hair and a little yardstick) which you can’t really use for cropping! The only way she found to get rid of that straighten tool is by clicking on the tool above (the colour picker) in the tool bar at the left of the screen and then back on the crop tool. I’ve been looking through the preferences (called Settings on Mac), but cannot seem to find any way to ensure that her setup is the same as mine. We’re both running AP v.1.10.6 on a M1 iMac on Ventura 13.2.1. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
  14. Meanwhile, on both of our computers, hardware acceleration has been switched on for more than a week, whilst automatic brightness has remained off. Result: no more beachballing on both our iMacs.
  15. I'll do as you suggested (switch hardware acceleration back on), and let you know whether the beachballs return or not. It would be a pity, now that I have a faster iMac, not to make use of hardware acceleration. Whatever it does, the name suggests some speed increase.
  16. I came here because my wife and I recently switched to a new iMac M1 running Monterey; my wife came from a 17in MBP (mid 2009), I myself from a 27in iMac (late 2012). We both experience beachballing on our individual iMacs, but after switching off hardware acceleration (an Affinity Photo preference) as suggested above, and switching off automatic brightness adjustment (a Mac system pref) as suggested in the video, all is well. I did not try either solution separately.
  17. Are you saying that your previous version (of Affinity Photo?) no longer works when having upgraded from Mojave (10.14x) to Catalina (10.15x), or are you talking about something else? I have been using Affinity Photo for several years now and was definitely using it under Mojave (probably even earlier) and am still using it under Catalina. I have meanwhile totally replaced Photoshop by Affinity Photo, because I do not want any subscriptions. I'm not sure your comment belongs in this thread which was an attempt to find out whether there's a difference between Affinity Photo bought from the Mac AppStore (MAS) and the version (same price) bought directly from Serif. Plugins are extra apps that are developed and sold by 'third parties' (DxO nowadays develops and sells Nik Software), further there are developers like Topaz, Skylum (previously known as MacPhun) etc. that were developed for the (more or less) standard photo program Photoshop. Most, but unfortunately not all of these extra plugins work on Affinity Photo, so much is sure. Hope this answers your question.
  18. - S O L V E D - Got it! I found the solution in another thread on this forum: I renamed the "Affinity Photo" folder, found at: ~/Application Support/ to "Affinity Photo-old", launched Affinity Photo, which started up as designed, filled in my trial serial no. and I'm good to go. At the same location as Affinity Photo-Old, I now have a new "Affinity Photo" folder, which contains a lot more than the old one. I'll keep the old one for the time being, but it will be discarded later.
  19. Thanks for your follow-up v_kyr. In fact, I am not testing AP ß; I only downloaded and installed it to find out whether it behaved the same as the Serif AP version. The reason why I was requested by my ß-testing team leader to download the trial version of Affinity, was because there appear to be differences between the MAS version and the version purchased from Serif, more specifically as regards 'PS Plugins'. The only (three) testers experiencing issues with specific plugin modules, were those running a MAS version. MEB in his first reply: So we removed the MAS version from our individual Macs, downloaded a 90dd-trial from Serif (complete with trial serial no.), just to check whether the plugin modules in question would work in this version. For two of us: positive. For me: trial version crashes upon launch. I did as you told, Applications/Affinity Photo/right-click & Open. No more "downloaded from the internet" message as that only occurred once, after verifying, the very first time, and only then did the program crash. Result: no bouncing icon but instantaneous crash report with the same font-related lines as you marked in red above. Any other ideas?
  20. Thanks for letting me know but... - how do I know which font is the cause? - yesterday I cleared font cache both through Safe Booting (as suggested by @MEB) and OnyX (my own go-to 'cleaning app', that has done a good job for years. - then I validated all fonts through Font Book/File/Validate Fonts (again, as suggested by MEB). I found three 'suspicious' fonts that I removed. - today again, I repeated Safe Boot and Validate Fonts after normal booting. All fonts appeared valid. If anyone can tell me which fonts I should remove, or replace or what, please let me know. It's a fact that: - Affinity Photo from Mac AppStore launches and operates normally. - Affinity Photo ß 1.9.4 from the Serif site launches and operates normally. - Only Affinity Photo 1.9.3, a trial version downloaded on MEB's suggestion, refuses to launch after verifying and telling me it's a file downloaded from the internet, etc. Hope someone can get me going again.
  21. I've meanwhile reinstalled the Affinity Photo Beta 1.9.4, and guess what: it opens and my Nik modules are all usable. There must be some kind of file preventing Affinity Photo 1.9.3 trial to launch. I hope Support can find out what could be wrong (besides the font issue, which has meanwhile been solved). In the old days I would have gone looking for a plst or such, but nowadays the Mac OS is at least as complicated as Windows, with files deep into the system and all over the place. Is there a specific uninstaller for Affinity Photo? One that would take care of gathering all things AP and deleting them?
  22. I'm sorry to disappoint you, @MEB, but I'm disappointed myself. This morning I launched the Affinity Photo version from the Mac AppStore (that I have appropriately renamed to "Affinity Photo (AppStore)". No problem, and a modified version of Nik Software that I got yesterday from DxO Support, appears to function as designed. No more troubles with specific modules. But I'm still thinking of switching from the Mac AppStore version of Affinity Photo, if I can get other (previously called) PS plugins to work. I have collected quite a few over the years, and it would be good if the Serif version would run more of them than the Mac AppStore version. Alas: the trial version that I downloaded from your link yesterday (I even had to give a different email address, and decided to enter my name in full), does not launch. The first launch it verifies and then stops. Later launches just make the icon in the Dock bounce a couple of times, and then it stops, as dead as a doornail. A crash report does appear, but that takes quite some time. I'm appending one of the most recent ones: Affinity Photo_2021-05-14-090106_DaddyCool.crash
  23. All these operations take quite some time. I’ve been on the job since this morning (well.. main part of yesterday as well). I did all suggested things (safe mode, validating fonts - got three with yellow exclamation mark that I removed). Am now running OnyX which might take another couple of hours. I will report back, but that may be late this evening or early tomorrow, with -let’s hope- good news. Your support is excellent. Thank you.
  24. Alas! Same sort of crash: download fine, verifying (takes some time), then "do you want to open... OK" and finally complete silence, followed by a somewhat delayed Crash Report that I am appending. Affinity Photo_2021-05-13-150316_DaddyCool.crash
