Affinity Designer 1.8.3 does not export editable vector gradients as EPS into Adobe Illustrator.... but Affinity can IMPORT editable gradients FROM Adobe Illustrator. Please fix this issue because this makes Adobe Illustrator a more compatible and favorable vector application across vector software applications and not Affinity Designer. Affinity Designer has always had this incompatibility issue.

Free transform / distort feature is essential, we need to know where on the roadmap this feature is. Posted in the other section but hopefully this is where we might get an update response. Without it this software is unsuitable for many tasks and hoped it would have been included in the last release as so many have requested.

I think this should get mentioned in a FAQ or set as default but please can anybody tell me how to get rid of the gap-lines if I am working in a document type like "Print (Press-Ready)"?
What needs to be done to get rid of those lines there?
 
Turning on "Force pixel alignment" and turn off "Move By Whole Pixels" does remove them on the screen in the application.
But if I then export the file to png, the gap-lines are still exported into the final image.
 
 
And this does NOT appear if I create a new file and sett document type to "Photo"!
 
My simple steps to recreate it are:
create new document, select type "Print (Press-Ready)" switch to Pixel-Persona select Paint-Brush-Tool Paint a line switch to rect marquee tool zoom in to the line select a piece out of the line press ctrl + x press ctrl + v go to menu Select --> Deselect got to menu File --> Export (PNG), click Export View file and zoom in, the gap lines are there

Why am I getting a gap in my pixels?   In the image below, I set my pixel tool to 1. I created a 12 pixel square. I then duplicated that square 3 times which put each square on a different layer.  I attempted to put them together to make one image.  However, as you can see, there is a tiny gap between each square.  Why is this happening?  Another person had the same problem.  However, when she did this in Affinity Photo, there were no gaps.  What are we doing wrong?

I know that several people have already asked for non-destructive warping but please can Affinity add this feature? It's an essential function  to ensure a speedy and efficient workflow when creating design templates that can be used over and over again, especially when visualising branding on mugs, tee-shirts etc.  I want to be able to swap an image and see all the existing transformations applied to the new image, like Smart Objects in Adobe CC.
I don't need it to be compatible with Adobe's Smart Objects feature,  but it would be great to see the functionality in Affinity Photo. I consider this to be a significant issue for many professionals who would love to make the transition to Affinity Photo, but are reluctant to do so, because they have to be very aware of the time it takes to perform repetitive  tasks i.e branding templates.
Is this on the horizon for Affinity Development? 

Affinity has been around for a while now and at this point, it is still not a replacement for Adobe.
There are a lot of good things, but the development is just taking way too long.
There is a golden opportunity that is being missed, because a lot of people are fed up with Adobe.
So what exactly is the long range plan and what are the features that are going to be added?
There is a lot of stuff that is not there (including proper plugin support) and I wonder if any of the developers are actually listening.

I just want to add to this thread that performance for me on Windows in both Designer and Photo has been unbelievably abysmal. The attached video shows what it looks like just panning the view around on a very small file with not a lot of elements. The amount of lag and stutter is insane. Any change I make with an adjustment layer in Photo lags for over a second sometimes. WHEN WILL THIS BE IMPROVED????

I've messed with all the performance and snapping settings with no change.
My specs:
Intel i5 6600K
Gigabyte G1 GTX 1070 8GB
16GB Ram
Running on an M.2 SSD
hooked up to a 60Hz 1080p monitor and a 144Hz 1440p monitor
I get better performance on my 2017 Macbook Pro! This is the only thing keeping me from loving this software and recommending it to people. Please do something.

Evening, So maybe I’m missing something simple with this. I copied and pasted some text of the internet. When doing so the font copied in a white background. Now every time I go to start new Artist Text the white background shows up.  How do I remove this?

Thanks for the file - this is actually being caused by having Windows Clipboard History enabled. If you turn that off you should be able to copy your objects without the app crashing. I've raised the issue with development and will get your file passed on.

Designer crashes when I am pulling an Asset to the canva. The copy (+) sign on my mouse indicator, does not go away, and when I then click anything, Designer goes down. What could be wrong?

We need an option to rotate the numbers showing the gap between objects — It is very difficult to read a number when it is written vertically.
And one problem: when I move an object using the arrows on the keyboard, the rotation marker overlaps the numbers.

Very glad to see the Affinity Apps import Adobe "Smart Objects" as equivalent "Embedded Document" layers.
I have a few questions:
In Adobe Photoshop, the primary usefulness of "Smart Object" layers is the ability to apply non-destructive distortions and transforms to the layer artwork. Do you plan for "Embedded Document" layers to share the same functional property?  In Adobe Photoshop, one can right click on a layer and convert it into a "Smart Object" layer to be used in non-destructive distortions and transforms. Do you plan to add that functionality to Photo? Can one right click on a layer in Photo and convert it into an "Embedded Document / Smart Object" layer? Is there a plan to allow both the Perspective and Mesh Warp tools to be applied non-destructively to "Embedded Document / Smart Object" layers? This is relevant to those of us who build mockups of packaging and 3D objects, where the need is to convincingly shape and apply logos and other artwork to boxes and bottles, and still have the ability to replace the artwork in the "Embedded Document / Smart Object" layer.   Is there any chance that Affinity "Embedded Document" layers can be exported out to PSD files as "Smart Object" layers rather than flattened raster layers?

I've seen some very nice product mock-up template files built in Affinity Photo making use of embedded files that allow for the substitution of new art in the embedded files. See the video below.
The problem is that what is possible to build is limited to flat plane objects (e.g., posters, book covers, iPad screens) because while there is a Perspective Live Filter to distort flat planes, there is no Mesh Warp Live Filter that would allow designers to wrap embedded files around curved or cylindrical shapes like wine bottles.
Is there any chance we might see a Mesh Warp Live Filter within the next few point upgrades? Please?
 

Hello, is there a feature that allows us to convert layers to embedded documents (ED) or preserve embedded documents when they are warped or perspective tool is used on them? I'm trying to use the place tool to add embedded documents to mockups but my workflow has been stressful and heavily slowed by the rasterizing of the ED after it's distorted. Please help :(. Is there any workaround?

To extend on your first point, does having those numbers written vertically give any advantage to anyone?
If not, they could probably be written horizontally all the time (rather than having it as an option).
As for the second issue, I’ve not come across that myself so I can’t say how intrusive it is (but it looks like it could be annoying at times).

I'm posting this bug report here because I stumbled upon it while I was working in Designer, but it affects all three Affinity apps.
A Perspective Live Filter applied to a layer in an Affinity Photo file is gone when exporting to PDF from Photo, Designer, or Publisher.
(the .afphoto file was placed linked into Designer and Publisher)
I use the latest versions of Affinity apps (1.7.2) on macOS 10.14.6

Right now in Affinity Photo when you place an embedded document and use the perspective tool it gets rasterized. You can no longer double-click the layer to change the file.
 
Same thing in Affinity Designer, there is not much you can do other than simple skew.

yes, Designer installed from MS Store is very very slow. Designer installed form affinity-download ist fast. But I bought Designer from MS Store and so I coult user Designer from affinity-download only for a limited time as a try-version.
Other programs from the MS Store run normaly.
I don't know how many fonts in my windows-installation are. But there are the some fonts when running Designer from the MS Store (extremly slow) and form affinity-download (in fast speed). I also use Affinity Photo and Affinity Publisher - both directly from Affinity bought. The are both running fast.

So I think it has nothing to do with ithe fonts. Designer ist extremly slow also when I habe opened no document.

I'm having the same issue.
I just bought Affinity Designer after watching all the improvements that came with version 1.7, never used it before.
I was very dissapointed with the performance even with small files.
My PC configuration is: Intel 4790K 4 cores 4Ghz. - 16GB of RAM - Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080 - 256GB SSD - Windows 10 64
 

Hello my Affinity Designer 1.7.0.367 runs very very slow. The reaction after every mouse click takes several seconds. I can not work with it anymore.
I use Windows 10 - 64 on a core i7 3770k with 16 GB ram and ssd / Radeon RX Vega 56 / UHD monitor with 115% scale.
After starting Designer, the splash-screen don't closes automaticly. The cpu-usage in the taskmanager goes up.
A reinstallation had no effect.
On the system I use Photo and Publisher (beta) - both on 1.7.x on HDD - Photo und Publisher .Both run at the usual speed - both very fast!
I notice that in %appdata%/.../Affinity/ are directorys for "Common", "Photo" and "Publilsher" - but  not for "Designer". 
Do you have any idea what I could do?
