Rebooting the machine can often clear up some weird little problems that have unknown causes. -
[Photo] Rotation, Flip and do-dats

[Photo] Rotation, Flip and do-dats
GarryP replied to TheSnooze's topic in Feedback for the Affinity V2 Suite of Products
There are plenty of ways to rotate things in all of the Affinity applications. Would you like to give more details about what you want? Flip Horizontally and Vertically, for layers, are already available on the Toolbar, as mentioned here: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/196279-flip-button/ Flip Horizontally and Vertically, for the whole image, as Toolbar buttons, has already been requested by you in the same thread. There’s no need to make multiple requests for the same thing, and it is actually discouraged. It’s also better to put individual requests/suggestions in different threads to avoid various problems. These things are made clear in the forum Guidelines. -
Symbols resizing randomly in designer 2
GarryP replied to RuthH's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
If you can describe the problem, giving as much detail as you can think of, preferably with full-screen screenshots where appropriate, and a video if possible, then someone should be able to help. -
Another possibility for this sort of thing, which may not need the use of Reset Studio unless it keeps happening, for Windows users, would be to: Click on the Panel background, not a control in the panel – to give that panel the ‘input focus’; Press Alt+Space; Press the “M” key, or whichever key relates to the “Move” menu item in the language your OS is set to (see post below).; Press any cursor key. The panel should now be movable via the cursor keys or by moving the mouse without clicking on a mouse button.

I’ve just copied an export format from one document to another using the Copy/Add functions – not using the Presets – in the Slices Panel and the user variable copied over okay for me. There’s a chance that we are not doing the same things and are therefore talking at cross-purposes. Would you be able to record a video showing us the steps you are performing which aren’t working for you? (One video per problem is better.)
-
When you press the Add Preset button (where available) it creates a new Preset for that Adjustment type. Those Presets can then be applied by clicking on one of them in the Adjustment Panel (where available) whereupon a new Adjustment Layer will be added to the document using the settings you saved in the Preset. These Adjustment Presets have nothing to do with the Adjustment default values which are always set to the factory defaults when you create a new Adjustment Layer without using a Preset to do so. If this doesn’t explain things well enough then I’m not sure what you are doing and, if so, would you be able to record and attach a video which only contains the minimum of steps to show the problem as you see it?
-
The Save Preset functionality only saves a new Preset, it doesn’t set the default for that Adjustment type. I don’t think there is a way to have user-defined default settings for Adjustments. I don’t know what you mean by that. The Adjustment layers are available in the Layers Panel of all three applications but Publisher doesn’t have a Pixel Persona and, as far as I can see, the Adjustment Panel isn’t available in Designer’s Pixel Persona. ----- I’m not sure what your video is supposed to be showing me; there are too many actions in it for me to understand which are the important ones in what you are trying to explain with it.

I wish to add a shortcut for "selection"
GarryP replied to 凌剑君's topic in Feedback for the Affinity V2 Suite of Products
Unless something has changed that I am not aware of, it is not currently possible to give a keyboard shortcut to any of the Context Toolbar functionalities in any of the Affinity applications unless a specific functionality is also available without using the Context Toolbar (e.g. via a menu). In other words, if you can only do a function via a Context Toolbar control then you cannot give a keyboard shortcut to that function. The ability for users to be able to give keyboard shortcuts to Context Toolbar actions is something that has been requested elsewhere in the forums. -
Inpainting Brush Tool
GarryP replied to jsampson45's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
The image is zoomed to 150%, see the percentage value after the document name at the top of the image. That might be very tricky to do convincingly as the software has no idea what should be ‘behind’ the vehicles. I’m not saying that it can’t be done, only that it might take a lot of experimentation with extra manual work. You can change the name of a thread which you created by hovering the mouse pointer over the thread title for a little while and then following the instructions in the tool tip which pops up (this will only work on devices where you can hover the mouse pointer). ---- I can’t see where your mouse pointer is in your attached image. Is that part of the problem which you are reporting? Also, I notice that your Inpainting Brush Tool settings (on the Context Toolbar) has “Current Layer” set which means that the software is trying to inpaint on the selected empty Pixel Layer (there’s nothing there to sample from, just transparent pixels). You might want to change that to “Current Layer & Below” instead. -
Select hidden objects
GarryP replied to md_germany's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
As far as I know, the “Select Hidden Objects” menu item you are using is only ‘active’ for the other functionalities in that sub-menu and it is not a general purpose “Select Hidden Objects” function. I don’t know if it is possible to select hidden objects via a selection from the canvas itself. -
from MacOS switch to Windows
GarryP replied to Šarlota's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Welcome to the forums @Šarlota From my basic understanding of this area… If you have version 1 of the application then you can only use it on the OS you purchased it to be used on. New licences for the version 1 applications are no longer available to purchase. If you have version 2 of the application then you can use the same application on more than one OS only if you purchased a Universal Licence: https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/affinity-pricing/ If you do not have a Universal Licence for the application then, to use the application on a different OS, you would need to purchase a new licence for it to be used on that OS. If any of this is wrong then I’m sure someone will correct me. -
In addition to, and extending, the advice above... When you Flatten a document (via menu “Document → Flatten”) the software converts what you can see in the document (except guides, grid, etc. basically ‘your stuff’) into a Pixel Layer. This is why the document looks “pixelated”, because it’s now only made of pixels. A PSD file can hold vector information so that's why you can see a difference. There is no “hidden layer”. If you are using the Outline Effect to get your “outline” (that term is vague so it’s better to be specific about what you are doing) then what you describe, as much as I can understand it, is the expected result of using that Effect on your flattened document. The Outline Effect looks for the ‘outside’ of the pixels in the layer which it is applied to (don’t ask me how) and then recolours the pixels beyond that 'boundary' to the user-specified distance. In this case, the software finds the pixels that make up the rounded rectangle and recolours the pixels around those to give you the outline. ------ I think you may be flattening the document without having any need to do so. If you can tell us what you want to do, rather than how you are doing it, then we can probably advise better.
-
You’ve given us a PNG image, which only has one layer, not a document. Can you supply the AFPHOTO document, which contains the layers you are trying to flatten, instead? (My suspicion is that you are trying to add a Stroke to a Pixel layer, which (I think) can’t be done, but I can’t tell without the actual document.)
-
There are lots of ‘moving parts’ and unknowns (to us) in your description. Would you be able to supply an example document, and give us a step-by-step workflow which we can follow to try and reproduce the problem?

As Walt mentioned above: Remove the text frames containing the Page Number Fields from the existing Master Pages; Create a new Master Page; Add a new Frame Text layer in the wanted position on that Master Page; Add the Page Number Field to the text of that layer; Apply the new Master Page to the existing Master Pages.

Unless I’m mistaken, it sounds to me like you might be getting the Brush Tools mixed up with the Brushes. Some of the Tools on the Tools Panel have the name “<something> Brush Tool” and these Tools use Brushes to do their job. The Brushes that the Brush Tools use are selected from the Brushes Panel. When you want to use a Brush Tool you first select the Tool and then you can, optionally, select a Brush to use with that Tool. If you do not select a Brush then the software will use either the Brush that was last used by any Brush Tool or the last Brush that was used with that specific Brush Tool, depending on the settings in the Assistant. There are options in Settings/Assistant where you can tell the software whether you want to share Brushes between Brush Tools or not. You can choose whether the software keeps using the Brush you were last using with any Brush Tool or whether you want to use different Brushes with different Brush Tools. Remember, a Brush Tool is not in itself, and does not ‘have’, a Brush. You use Brushes with the Brush Tools and different Brushes have different effects with different Brush Tools under different circumstances. A Brush you are using with a Brush Tool may not give the effect that you are looking for as it might not have been designed to work with that particular Brush Tool in the way that you might want. In these cases you will need to experiment with using different Brushes to see which work best with a particular Brush Tool to achieve the effect that you want. I hope this helps to clear things up a bit.

Sign Post software
GarryP replied to GRAPHITI's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Welcome to the forums @GRAPHITI I’m not entirely sure of the relevance of your question to the Affinity software but… Are you absolutely sure it was called “Sign Post” and not something like “Sign Cut”? If so, how old are we talking about, and do you have a picture of the manual cover or a screenshot or something that we can look at? The less information you give the more you are relying purely on the memory of what is probably a relatively small number of people. -
Painting outside of an ellipse
GarryP replied to pbbailey's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
That’s fine. If you add a new thread in the Customer Service section of the forums explaining the issue then a member of staff can probably help you to get things sorted so you only have one login which might simplify things a bit.
