Welcome to the forums @Spivey
Everything in that design can be done in the Affinity applications but I would suggest using Designer (you don’t say which Affinity application(s) you have, there are three).
As for trees, this thread may be of some use: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/188562-affinity-designer-stylised-maps/
As for tutorials and training, I would recommend starting with the official Affinity videos: https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/learn/
Then maybe search the Resources section of these forums for more information about specific things: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/forum/11-resources/
If you get stuck on anything you can always ask a question about it here.
P.S. The OP of this thread seems to be doing a similar thing to you: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/163181-working-between-ipad-and-pc-and-artboards/

Ah, that would make more sense to me.
That’s already been requested a few times, for example: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/73646-export-slice-path-variable-document-name/ -
I could be thinking about this wrong but wouldn’t that create some kind of recursion?
The file name is made from the things that are specified by the path components (with the file type suffix) so, if the file name was also included in the file name wouldn’t that cause the file name to simply keep growing until it reached the maximum length limit for the OS?
Or are you asking for something else? Or am I just wrong?
Note: There are user variables which can be used as path components; would that be what you want?

Welcome to the forums @Bobbi Bullard
When you say you “used guidelines”, are you using Ruler Guides (in red in my image) or Column Guides (in green in my image)?
These two things achieve similar things but in different ways.
It sounds like you are using Column Guides but I would like to be sure we are talking about the same thing.
If you are using Column Guides then there’s only one Gutter setting that is used for both horizontal and vertical spacing.

This means that if some of the files are off-line, the app appears hanged for a very long time.
Can you explain what you mean by an “off-line” file?
Do you mean a file which is not on a local storage device, or a file which has been moved/deleted from/on local storage, or something else? -
In the “Recent” panel (part of what’s called the “Startup panel” above) there is also a little “Remove” cross-like icon at the top-left of the thumbnail when the mouse is hovering over that thumbnail.
The “Remove” cross-like icon doesn’t remove multiply-selected documents (at least on Windows, for me), but the right-click-Remove option does.

In addition to the things mentioned above, one other possible issue could be font availability.
If you have used a font which is installed as standard on one OS but isn’t installed as standard on the other OS then there is a chance that you might not be able to use that font, or that you may have to purchase a licence to use it.
Also, for fonts which you have purchased, make sure that you have a licence to use it on more than one machine.
In addition, even if a font is available on both machines, it might not look exactly the same on both machines – check the version numbers of those fonts and check the results carefully rather than assuming that they will look the same.
And one further thing: When transferring a document from one OS to another, you might want to package the document so that you get all of the images, fonts, etc. that the document uses so you aren’t having to hunt around for missing resources.

While you are waiting for responses, try searching these forums for seamless pattern and see how various people have tried to do this, and the sort of problems they have come across, and how they resolved those problems (if they did).
(You might find some useful videos and/or tutorials but I doubt there will be many courses or books on this subject, especially using the Affinity applications.)

Welcome to the forums @Hervé Lafontaine

Doing what you have requested would cause the “Haze Removal” filter to work differently to all of the other filters which require user input, and would do it in a way that wasn’t obvious to the majority of users, and the amount of ‘work’ needed by the user wouldn’t improve.
I think it’s probably better if we stick to using the Apply button to apply the filter and use the Cancel button (or Close icon) to cancel that filter, like all the other filters which need further user input.

Welcome to the forums @jando
The “Tutorials” section of the forums is for posting tutorials for other people to follow, not for asking for them.
The “Resources” section of the forums is for posting resources that other people can use, not for asking for them.
Questions and requests for information should be posted in the “Questions” section of the forum.
This isn’t a big problem or anything like that, so please don’t worry, it just helps to keep things in the right place so people can find stuff more easily.
You do not need to do anything with this thread, a moderator will move it to the relevant section for you.

You might also be interested in what else you can do in many numeric fields.
Go to the application Help, look down the left-hand panel until you see “Expressions for field input” (near the bottom) and click the link.

In either the W or H field of the Transform Panel (or both), while you have all of the layers (which you want to be scaled) selected.

You’re welcome.

I’m pretty sure that you can’t grab all of the handles of the nodes at the same time (I can't wrap my head around how that would work in practice at the moment), but I’d be happy to learn.

One alternative method, using the Square Star Tool, is shown in this video.

That's incorrect.
Thanks. Fixed prior mistakes (in this thread at least).

This seems to be working fine on Windows 10 – I can click anywhere in either the Fill or Stroke buttons on the Context Toolbar and I get the pop-up as expected.
If it can’t be replicated on other MacOS machines then it could be a system-specific issue.
-
Welcome to the forums @HeiGuei
That looks like it was made from a Hexagon.
If you draw a Hexagon using the Polygon Tool, then use “Convert to Curves” on the Context Toolbar, then use the Node Tool, select all nodes and convert them to Smart Nodes (on the Context Toolbar), you can 'reverse' the handles on each node – see attached video.
If there is a (better?) alternative method then I’m sure someone will tell you.

What export formats would this create issues for?
As I said above, if you use
a Blend Mode that is anything other than Normalthe Erase Blend Mode, that layer and (possibly) its parent layers will be rasterised, every time, upon export to any file format. There’s no way of getting round this, it’s just what the software does for what I assume are various technical reasons.
Whether that will be a problem for your output, only you can say.
-
You’re welcome.
It’s also worth noting that the black pixel ‘masking’ layer is still editable, like any other pixel layer, so that tweaks can be made at any time if the result isn’t exactly what is needed.
It’s also also worth noting that, as lepr said above, by doing it this way, the text will always be rasterised upon export, to any file format.
You can create the ‘masking’ layer using vector tools instead, as you have seen, but, because the technique uses
a Blend Mode which isn’t Normalthe Erase Blend Mode, rasterisation will still occur. -
George Moulos: Is the thing I show in my attached video (basically) what you want to do?
It is essentially a demonstration of some of what lepr said in the above post but with more details of the steps required.Note: When you are moving the text, make sure that Lock Children is ON so that the black pixel ‘masking’ layer stay where it is in relation to the background rather than moving with the 'parent' text.

You're welcome.

Thanks for the document.
I tried exporting the “bronze medal” design via the Export Persona and got the same SVG that you did (as far as I can tell).
It seems to be rasterising some “Unsupported properties”.I believe the problem is the way that some of the gradients have been ‘skewed’.
Watch what I do in my attached video and then try exporting again – I am double-clicking on the handles with two dotted-lines coming from them.
Note: If you need more help with this, go to the application Help, type gradient into the search box (hit Enter), click the link for “Gradient and bitmap fills” and scroll down.

You're welcome.

How do I make a wavy line that looks like water?

Do you need the result to be vector, or can it be raster?
Do you need it to look exactly like your example or, if not, what can be different?
