Using Windows Ink for greater precision could make sense if you're using one of the cheaper and smaller tablets, but Wacom's professional products (the Pro Medium or the Intuous) have their own precision mode. This is far more advanced than Ink. You can set up one of the buttons to toggle it on and off, as in the screenshot.

Actually it is overkill for what I do. I can get all the precision needed simply by zooming in or out. The greater the magnification, the greater the accuracy.

Incidentally, people have been complaining about Ink on the Adobe forums, too. Some have come up with a hack to disable it in Photoshop, but it seems Illustrator users are out of luck. Credit to Serif for giving us a choice!

Thank you for sharing your settings. Windows Ink will let pen pressure to work.

    Hi
In the latest beta, the program freezes after dragging a shape layer either above or below an image layer.
In this case a rectangle has been dragged below the image layer.  Earlier test also froze when dragging a shape above the image layer.
Task manager closes the program easily enough.
    Regards

I tried too the latest beta in my PC, Win10. No freezes.

I have a similar thing, maybe it is the same. I would describe it like that: it feels as if I had the Stabilizer activated and on a very low setting like 1-5 or something like that. As if the cursor would "wait" until I moved a little bit.

Turning Windows Ink off feels a little faster, so it is probably the same problem. If the pen hits the tablet, the dot is made instantly. If I move the pen very slightly ( I'd say 1-2mm in real), the lag appears. If I make longer strokes, all works well.

Other than that the performance of all brushes was improved quite a bit in the last months. :)

Edit: I'm on Windows 10 with a Wacom Intuos Pro.

I too have the same thing. I just stopped using Affinity apps (for now) because of this. the bug ruined my experience 😫

    I too

also have a problem in AD after updating to version 1.8,  when I start to use my pen to draw I have a lag of about a fraction of a sec after the pen has drawn a line etc this has left me unable to use Afinity designer and photo! Where do I go on from here?

Also, WizardRobot reported this for AP. I hope Affinity team can fix it soon.

I installed version 1.8 today, and tried painting with it, but there was a crazy amount of input lag that wasn't present in 1.7.  This applies both to pen and mouse input with the brush tool specifically. The first thing I noticed was that there was about a full second delay before the brush would start drawing, and it would just draw a straight line from the starting point to the point the cursor is currently at and then start following the path from there. However, if I created any brush strokes too quickly, it wouldn't follow it all the way to the end of the stroke where I lifted off; It would just abruptly stop like 80% of the way there.

I tried updating other drivers on my computer, but none of that helped. So I reinstalled 1.7 again, and everything is working perfectly.

This kinda sucks because I feel like Affinity's input response is far better than most programs typically.

I'm using Windows 10 Pro btw

I reported this in for AD. I can't draw using Affinity apps now 😞 because of this. I tried different computer and the lag still there. I really like this version 1.8. I hope Affinity team will fix it soon.

    Hi,

I would love if the Affinity team could resolve this bug, because disabling Windows Ink has been previously recommended to avoid an issue with changing focus  to different apps messing with the brush functionality - and also messing with the functionality of navigating on the canvas using space shortcut (Win 10, Wacom Intuos Pro, Cintiq 16).

Having it disabled and losing pressure of the pen is however even worse.

So it is very inconvenient to restart the program every time the focus bug occurs, which can happen very often (every 5-15 minutes, when you work with reference on your other screen or just want to switch music).

This bug is driving me crazy. All other open sources software (like GIMP, Krita, Inkscape and MyPaint) managed to resolve these bugs in no time and they work with tablets beautifully.

  7. I really like to switch to Affinity as drawing/painting applications, but the problems that I can't work with my Wacom tablets as drawing in Affinity AD/AP. There is a slight lag when I start to draw even with the new version.
I tried it on another PC and still the problem exist.
