manu schwendener reacted to Patrick Connor in Affinity Photo Workbook
Sandancer,
Welcome to the Serif Affinity Forums
The Affinity Photo Workbook has never been sold. We were proof reading it on Friday and manufacture takes up to 6 weeks. Launch will not be until the middle of October, so the listing on Amazon should say 24-10-2017 not 2-10-2017.
Amazon.com do also sell the Affinity Designer Workbook, ordering from us. As I understand it Amazon.com delisted English Designer our book by accident, but getting it relisted is proving quite difficult, perhaps it is back now, like it is on Amazon.co.uk. The German one was not affected by this. I have heard that using the Amazon listing it is possible to send to some countries that our distributor (ironically a sub=company of Amazon) will not distribute to. The Amazon listing does not mirror the pricing on the Affinity Store.
All the other books on Amazon that have Affinity Photo or Affinity Designer in their name are not official Serif manuals.

manu schwendener reacted to MEB in AD (beginner): eps -> png/gif, how to preserve transparency?
Hi manu schwendener,
Go to menu Document and check Transparent Background then export to PNG as usual.
In Designer you can find the Transparent Background option in the Document Setup dialog (File ▸ Document Setup).

Is this being actively progressed as a feature request? Trying to work with a number of similar images is proving to be a pain!

You need to be logged into the Mac app store with the same userid you originally used to purchase product then click on updates if you still cannot see any update then try to reboot your Mac as I have sometimes had problems with the app store an found a reboot of laptop rectifies problem

This might be of interest in the present context as well:

manu schwendener reacted to A_B_C in Can't open Designer
Hmm … I could swear the German App Store has always notified me of updates in the past, even if I wasn’t logged in to my account. I had the impression that the installed apps are registered in a database on my system, and the App Store would scan this database in order to find available updates. Only on a download attempt I was asked for a login … hmm …

Hopefully, future betas will offer an updated message that makes it clearer why the current beta version is expired. Something for 1.6 betas?

The answer is very simple. Not enough people and we haven't found any new ones yet.

manu schwendener reacted to DavidMac in [Multi] Sticky Settings
This has been a hot topic for ages and is being gradually implemented. I will make only the following remarks.
Settings should, as much as possible, be sticky not just within a single session but from one session to the next.
All tool settings should be sticky.
All dialogue positions should be sticky.
Many dialogue settings such as Re-Size could be sticky as well. (This one is my pet hate. It defaults to Nearest Neighbour - probably the least likely option ever to be used in an app that is principally for photographic images! I have to remember to change it every time I use the dialogue.)

Hi JT_Allen,
We're currently working on a workbook for Affinity Photo, no eta on when it will be released yet. But when it is, we'll make an announcement letting everyone know. :)

manu schwendener reacted to carl123 in Healing brush not cloning
Try setting your healing brush Hardness to 100% for better results
(it is current set to 34%)
But the clone tool is normally the best tool for this

Hi Marc Lindfors,
We do have plans to add prototyping tools to the app however it may not be in the form of a persona. If you would like to see the features you have requested added to the app I reccomend making a post in our Feature Requests section :)

manu schwendener got a reaction from LilleG in Colour removal
Hello Bill
Welcome to Affinity Photo :-)
This is what I tried: set the photo to black and white (in adjustments) and all the colour sliders to the right.
Or: set the photo to black and white, then go to 'brightness / contrast' (also in adjustments) and set them to 100%.
If anybody has another solution but no picture at hand: feel free to use
http://manuschwendener.tumblr.com/post/26297108788, clicking brings you to a bigger size.

manu schwendener reacted to carl123 in Exporting
There have been a few posts in the past where users have obviously been confused with this
There is simply no reason for the words "Affinity Files" to be in that particular export dialogue box, it should just say *.jpg, *.tiff or whatever format the user has selected.
By adding the words "Affinity Files" it looks like you are about to save in some form of proprietary Affinity file format
Mucho confusion the first time you encounter it

Hello again, just a heads up that we're now focusing on YouTube delivery as well as Vimeo - videos will be available on both platforms going forward. Here's a link to the YouTube channel: https://affin.co/photoyt
All videos to date are available so far, and we'll keep parity between the two from now.
Thanks!

manu schwendener reacted to Dave Harris in Why Publisher shouldn't be released anytime soon
Thanks for your comments. I have to say that making a clone of InDesign is not our goal; we have our own vision. Also, our plan is to release Publisher as soon as it has enough to be useful to someone. We won't wait until it can do everything InDesign can do and more. As a result, you can expect the first version to be quite basic. In the same way that Designer is still missing things like arrow heads which are crucial to some people, Publisher will be missing features that some of you will need. I don't want you to think we are already sitting on a basic Publisher and not releasing it because we want to add more advanced features first.
Publisher is delayed simply because it is taking us longer than we expected. I can't say too much about what we have and haven't done, but here's an example: text styles are a crucial Publisher feature, and the reason they are in Designer 1.5 and not earlier is because they weren't developed earlier. In general, when we have a Publisher feature complete that we think also belongs in Designer, we'll include it in Designer as soon as it is ready. (The caveat is that there are some features we know you'd like to see in Designer, that we don't think belong in it.)
I'm sorry it is taking so long, and I'm especially sorry that our past timelines for Publisher were so wildly optimistic. Our original vision of three apps all sharing a file format and a common way of working, was something we were very excited about. That exuberance spilled into some fairly delirious announced schedules. We will get there. We're still excited about the vision and determined to bring it about, just as soon as we can.

manu schwendener reacted to curiousgirl in Re: Newbie frustration on use of Inpainting brush etc.,
Hello all, a positive update to say that after 5 days, I'm loving this inpainting tool. Works a treat.
Its better if you zoom in to the area you wish to remove - as advised on video.
And you have to remember to make sure the background layer is selected - again as advised on here.
And I've found getting the right size to the brush also makes a difference.
But I'm utterly amazed at how sophisticated it is and the kinds of backgrounds it can replicate when something is removed.
Thanks for your support too. :)

manu schwendener reacted to MEB in Re: Newbie frustration on use of Inpainting brush etc.,
Hi curiousgirl,
Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
You seem to have the Undo Brush Tool selected, not the Inpainting Brush Tool.
You have to click on the small arrow in the Healing Brush Tool button to access it. See the screenshot below.

manu schwendener reacted to velarde in [Multi] Sticky Settings
Hello.
Just wondering if the sticky settings are getting implemented in the 1.5 release. I know we are getting new "exciting" features to play with but still need the "boring" ones to be implemented and be productive in the day to day.
