    Hi Stephen_H,
Go to menu View and untick Show Pixel Selection. You can also set a custom shortcut for this in Affinity Preferences, Keyboard Shortcuts section (set the first dropdown to Photo and the second to View).

    Hi All,

If you follow us on any of our social accounts you may notice that we have just changed our handles / usernames to @affinitybyserif. While we've grown pretty fond of @MacAffinity over the last few years we have to admit it's not the best handle when one of our big things is being multi-platform across Mac, iPad and Windows.

You don't have to re-follow us or anything, you'll just now be automatically following us under the new username. Of course our display names are all still just Affinity and that also means you will still see us appear as an autocomplete when wanting to mention us. Only thing is if have got used to manually typing "@MacAffinity" you might want to try to get out of that habit! That said we have set up new accounts so we still own the @MacAffinity handles, and will of course monitor that for mentions for the foreseeable future.

Other main thing is the custom URLs to our social home pages have changed. If you have bookmarked us for any reason, you may wish to update these too. Our URLs are now as follows:

    facebook.com/affinitybyserif
    twitter.com/affinitybyserif
    vimeo.com/affinitybyserif
    instagram.com/affinitybyserif

We'll be updating any links on our sites, emails, etc. over the next few days. By all means if you spot an incorrect link from next week anywhere please let us know. There are some links to our social accounts in the apps too - they will be updated in our next patch which is due pretty soon anyway.

    Thanks,
    Ash

    Hello earthshrine :-)

What do you see if in the top left corner you click on 'Affinity Photo' and then on 'About...'?

What you describe should be fixed in "1.6.7. (Beta 1)". If you see "1.6.6", you are on the newest official version, but the fix will only happen with the next update.

(Sorry if this is obvious to you.)

    Affinity Online Help
Hello all, we're happy to be able to offer you an online version of the in-app help!
Access Designer, Photo & Publisher Help here: https://affinity.help
Here are some of the additional features we're able to implement as a result of having proper browser support:
Dynamic language switching: The help will determine your language and (if it's available) serve you a localised copy of the help. If you prefer to read in another language, however, you'll find a combo box at the bottom left which will enable you to change languages—and stay on the page you're currently reading. Print: Sounds simple, but with full browser support we can now implement printing of the topic pages. The print icon in the bottom left will give you a nicely formatted printout of the current topic. Share: Clicking the clipboard icon will copy the current topic's URL to your clipboard, which means you can easily point other people towards topics that may help them. Responsive: The help was responsive anyway, including off-canvas menu functionality so you could collapse the window and still read a topic, but this is taken further in this version of the help. The help is formatted nicely and usable even on a 4" iPhone SE screen. Search: we've implemented our own bespoke search for the online help which is fast and accurate. Access it via the tab system along the top left. Favourites: you can add topics to your favourites list to easily access them during future browser sessions. Simply click the + (plus) icon next to the "Favourites" tab to add the current topic.
With this online version you'll be able to print out topics and view them on your tablets/phones, which are two of the most common requests when it comes to help feedback.
As always, if you have any feedback or find any issues with this online version, please let us know! Hope you find it useful.

Hi Mike, thanks for your comments, I do really appreciate your feedback as it's something we are aware of (and have been for some time now). In an ideal situation with more time, we'd have already been able to provide a more comprehensive, structured beginners course. I have produced an initial set of beginners videos that take you through the absolute basics (opening, saving, adjustments, filters, exporting etc), but from your comments it sounds like there's nothing for the skill level past that point where it focuses more on A to B workflows.

I know Simon's (Drippy Cat) video courses have received some great praise and he offers some great structured learning, which is what we struggle with as the in-house videos tend to be a mixture of new features, specific techniques, genres, etc. What did you find was the issue with his videos? I'm sure he would appreciate the feedback as he's pretty active and is constantly working on new material or revising it.

The problem we have with our video structure at the moment is that there are plenty of really useful techniques, many of which I'd say could be suitable for beginners to digest, but they're almost "hidden" in videos that cover a particular feature or workflow aid. This is something that we have plans to address, but can't really provide a timeline for. Ideally I'd like to knuckle down and produce a few more of what we call "Projects" videos, where it's a workflow demonstration that covers the start to finish of an image edit. I'm a keen landscape photographer too so I have plenty of ideas to pool from for this subject!

Sorry I can't offer more in the way of a resolution at the moment, but we are aware of the gap in the learning material we provide and it is something we're hoping to address. In the meantime, if you had any specific areas you were struggling with, I could try and point you towards videos that would cover those areas (as I mentioned previously, it's not always obvious by the video title). Do let me know, perhaps in this thread, and I'll do my best to help. Thanks!

I can reproduce this easily enough. I just opened 9x PNG's, closed them one by one and attempted to open them again and the app got stuck. Definitely something not right and I don't recall this happening in 1.5 (I'll go and try it now).

1.5 allowed me to open 10 JPG's on a different Mac 3 times in a row. I moved to 1.6 and Opened them the first time, the 2nd time I tried to open them, only one opened and I got stuck. I'll log this with dev.

manu schwendener reacted to MEB in Free Content included with 1.6 ('Till 16th November)
This offer has expired and so this thread is locked

    Finding the Offer
If you Purchase Affinity Designer or Affinity Photo for Desktop (Mac or Windows, not iPad) OR you already own Affinity on Mac or Windows, then you can also download the free content in the launch offer by updating Affinity to 1.6 and click the "Claim Now" button in the Welcome screen. The offer is only open until November 16th, so hurry up

First Update the software to 1.6.x. Mac software bought from the Mac App Store (MAS) is updated through the MAS update tab.
Windows software can be updated by running the App and pressing Download when prompted about the newer version.

Once you have installed the update, run the Affinity software (Designer or Photo) and the splash screen shows briefly, followed by the Welcome screen that looks like this

    Affinity Photo Welcome Screen

    Affinity Designer Welcome Screen

If you have the Welcome screen turned off (in Preferences) then you can still access the Welcome screen from the Help menu > "Welcome..." option

IF YOU CANNOT SEE THE SCROLLING OFFER, you will need to give your software firewall clearance in order to see the pages that looks like these attachments. On Windows you may also need to install Internet Explorer 10 or above. Some customers report they have needed to disable VPN networks . If that does not work and you are using the purchased version (not trial or beta) then please add to this thread and we will try to help.
    Claiming Your Content
Once you have clicked on the "Claim Now" in the software Welcome screen you will be taken to the Affinity Store (a shopping basket on our website) called "Your Order Summary", from which you can claim your content. Simply make an account by using the "NEW TO AFFINITY?" option on the store as you claim your content. (If you happen to have an account the New to affinity option will tell you anyway, so everyone can use that option) The free content will be added to the Downloads Section of your account and can be seen in future in your Affinity Store Order History.

    IMPORTANT
You will ONLY have an Affinity Store account if you have bought the Windows version of Affinity Designer or the Windows version of Affinity Photo or the Affinity Designer Workbook from our site Affinity.Store.
If you bought the Mac version from the Mac App Store you need to create an Affinity Store account to claim the free content. Purchases from the Mac App Store (MAS) are ONLY in Apple's database and Affinity Mac owners DO NOT have an automatic Affinity Store account.
A forum account is not an Affinity Store account, so if that's all you have you will need to create an account too.
A Serif legacy account (used to buy the Plus range) is NOT an affinity store account, the databases are 100%independent.

    Installing the Content
Once you have downloaded the free content each zip file has instructions in an included PDF as to how to install it or use it in the appropriate Affinity application. Each one is different. As well as being inside the Zip files, you can also find these Quick start guides in English and German linked to in this resources post
https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/50300-installing-free-16-content/ For the Photo Content there is also a video on the Uplift Epic Skies collection here https://vimeo.com/240834026

Posted recently something similar about the Crop tool remembering which Setting I've used.
I don't want to choose it each time when working with my pictures. I use the "Original Ratio" 99% of the time and I have to rechoose it always.  It always stays ons the default " Unconstrained"

manu schwendener got a reaction from A_B_C in Sticky settings for the crop tool [AP Mac]
I seem to have misunderstood what 'sticky settings coming in 1.5' meant.

    My workflow:

    1) I open a photo
    2) I crop it to a custom preset [Mode -> scrolling down to one of my presets]
    3) I switch from 'Overlay: Thirds grid' to 'Overlay: none'
    4) I crop and export the photo

What I expected to happen with 1.5 / sticky settings:
    1) I open a photo
    2) Mode is on the preset that I last used
    3) Overlay is on 'none', because that's what I last used
    4) I crop and export the photo

    What happens:
I still have to change Mode: and Overlay: for every single photo I work on.

    Sandancer,
Welcome to the Serif Affinity Forums
The Affinity Photo Workbook has never been sold. We were proof reading it on Friday and manufacture takes up to 6 weeks. Launch will not be until the middle of October, so the listing on Amazon should say 24-10-2017 not 2-10-2017.
Amazon.com do also sell the Affinity Designer Workbook, ordering from us. As I understand it Amazon.com delisted English Designer our book by accident, but getting it relisted is proving quite difficult, perhaps it is back now, like it is on Amazon.co.uk. The German one was not affected by this. I have heard that using the Amazon listing it is possible to send to some countries that our distributor (ironically a sub=company of Amazon) will not distribute to. The Amazon listing does not mirror the pricing on the Affinity Store.
All the other books on Amazon that have Affinity Photo or Affinity Designer in their name are not official Serif manuals.
