Also you can use Channel Mixer, RGB, Green. Then Green 0%, Blue 50%, Red 50%.

We routinely process 200-300 pics per session (yacht photos), many requiring straightening and resulting cropping/enlargement. In 1.6 we have routinely used the Develop Persona's Rotate and Scale tools due to a couple major issues with normal cropping in 1.6. With 1.7, would it be possible to please add the following to help our daily workflow?
    Within the Cropping Tool:
    1) Make the "Mode/Original Ratio" sticky (all our pics in these photo sessions have to be identical format);
    2) You have made the "Dark Border" sticky in 1.7 (THANK YOU!);
    3) Please add the Crop to Opaque button (as in the Panorama editing) to allow automatic cropping to the remaining pic after straightening.
Thanks! Looking forward to the final 1.7.

It would also be good if the cropping ratio could be made sticky, so it remembers what I last used.

(I make postcards from my photos, so I mainly use 5 preset custom ratios.)

    All,

Thanks for the input in this thread. We hadn't really considered the case where a user would reenter the crop tool after cropping before - so I have made the following changes for build .111
    - When reentering the crop tool, dragging inside the existing crop will move it, as opposed to creating a new crop.
    - Unless you press the "Reset" button on the context toolbar - in which case you can create a new crop by dragging.
    - Dragging the frame will always move the crop (as suggested by A_B_C).
Hopefully this will make things a bit more useable,

    Thanks,
    Andy.

Each time the Crop Tool is selected, the Mode menu always  opens with Unconstrained.
If I am cropping a number of open photographs to, say, 6x4, I need to re-select the required ratio for each photograph.
I would love to see a feature that allows the selected Crop Ratio to be remembered - each time another photograph is selected.  I would also love to see the selected Crop Ratio to be remembered between each Affinity Photo session.
Such a feature would significantly improve workflow when the same crop ratio is applied to a series of photographs.

And don't force me to have a grey background that is brighter than the photo. I don't mind if this is the default, but please let me change it in Preferences – User Interface.

This would be a clear step backwards for me:

This is doubly fixed in .110, thank you!

    – I can see 'Overlay' in the context bar without an extra click
    AND
    – the setting for Overlay is sticky now

This makes my workflow so much smoother.

    Ah.

(It shows me the rest of the photo, thank you. But it also turns the background bright, which I'd rather have set to dark.)

I agree with your post 1 then: it should be possible to reposition the crop frame by dragging it, also when you reselect the Crop Tool.

I think so, too. And I use cropping a lot.

    > I would believe that a user who selects the Crop Tool after having made a crop is more likely to intend to adjust the crop
    > (either by moving the handles or by repositioning the frame) than to start anew from scratch.

    I absolutely agree.
My proposition (AFP-413) was to not undo everything when I click cmd+z but only undo the cropping, while keeping the crop area marked as I had set it before – so I can adjust _a bit_ without having to start from scratch.

    > what about … uhm … sticky settings

.110: "Crop tool remembers settings for darken, reveal, overlay. More to follow."

    Hi Alex,
Isn't this how it's always been? It seems to be the case with 1.6 but I could be missing something.
This is an awkward one because I don't think the current behaviour is a bug, it's just not the behaviour you want. I like being able to create a new crop but I can also appreciate you want to move the existing crop position.
I think some new context tools could improve this behaviour and let the user make it act like they want. I believe cropping is something dev want to change at some point. They tried it for 1.7 but pulled the changes as they weren't happy with them.
I put a few improvement requests in last week for sticky crop settings so hopefully we'll see those soon.

That's just how he could reproduce it.

All I do is use the adjustment tools and sometimes the display gets messed up and some times it doesn't (I never undock).

    I've just reproduced this by:
Expand all the Adjustments Undock the Adjustments Panel Dock it again Levels and White Balance should be missing.  I can repo this every time now. I'll update the developers.

Just sat down to learn the new Crop tool (very cool, by the way). But I noticed that turning Snapping off by un-selecting the snapping icon on the Toolbar actually does NOT turn it off, at least not in the Crop tool.

    Hi RNKLN
I'm guessing you are doing this without a document open. It should update in real time when you have a document open. It is related to the document background no the workspace background
    Thanks

I was also concerned about importing all of my old InDesign files - but found that importing a PDF exported from InDesign worked amazingly well with Affinity Publisher. I can start editing right away and make as many changes as I like, and save the file as an .afpub file.
Very impressive, and immediately useful to me.

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums
It's not possible yet. There are plans to be able to open IDML files in the future
<mod edit> IDML not INDD file clarification was made in an edit on 6th July 2019 </mod edit>

As far as I know if you only want to see one person what you write, you have to click on that person's name and send a message via their profile.

But if you reply in a thread, it makes sense that all people following (or finding) that thread see your post. And yes, your reply goes to the bottom, so it helps if you include what exactly you're replying to; for example by using the 'Quote' button or just copy & paste.

PS about the forum: if you get stuck with another AffinityPhoto tool you might want to post in 'Questions' instead of 'Resources'.

Or, if you're not using layers on purpose yet (some actions create a new layer on their own): make sure your background layer is activated to get the inpainting tool to work (see screenshot).

If that's not working either, try the inpainting tool as the _first_ step after opening a photo in AffinityPhoto.

    PS:
I use that tool a lot. When I get a result I like, but am not finished yet, I go to the navigation on the top and select 'Document – Add Snapshot'.
Then I continue cleaning up my photo; if the next inpainting action doesn't give the result I want I can go back with 'Document – Restore Snapshot'.

So the area _does_get a red overlay before you release the mouse button?

Check the value for opacity? (edit: See screenshot)

If that's not helping, maybe start with another of your own pictures: easy candidates are twigs in a blue sky, or bright spots on an otherwise dark background (just to get it to work).
