    Hi fmlfoto,
We are aware of the issues with images being cut on export in the latest Beta (JPG and PNG). This is already logged and should be fixed soon.
It would be helpful if you can provide one or two samples of the biggest images (tiff's) you are having trouble with as Callum requested.
You can send them (or a dropbox link) to support@seriflabs.com along with a small description of the issue and a link to this thread.
    Thanks for your support.

Thanks for pinning that down. So ... exported files are fine and my attached samples do not show the problem. Yours does though and viewed in AP, it's persistent - save the project and reopen it and in APs viewer, the blockiness persists, here's a screenshot rather than the exported file. (Still no mermaid, sorry).

Having filed a bug on it, it's because in the preferences, I had view quality set to 'Nearest Neighbour (fastest)' rather than 'Bilinear (best quality)'. AP's plenty quick enough with the latter even though it's running on a 2009-era mac here.

First congratulations on the standard of the video tutorials.

As a former PS CS4 and CS6 user, I was happy until Adobe introduced their CC rental model and I vowed late in 2014 to start migrating away from PS if I could.  I was therefore an enthusiastic AP beta tester from early 2015 and purchased on launch.

The important point is that I am already a far more skilful AP user(around masks, blend modes, layers, sharpening to name but four) than I was a PS user. There is an appallingly steep learning curve in PS but AP is much more focussed, accessible and easier to learn. Part of this is due to it being aimed squarely at Photographers only and partly because your videos are a great help to get going.

I measure success in terms of the quality of images I have produced and been successful with in my local club competitions and salon "acceptances"and 2015 has been a lot better than 2014. I attribute some good part of this to AP and the ease of learning which your tutorials have given.

I have to remain with Adobe until end November 2015 but can't wait to cancel my subscription. I haven't saved a .psd file for three months now.

    No gripes,

    Thanks a million!

Exactly, that would be great …  :)

I know that the Crop Tool does have a dedicated history of its own now, but that does not work too well … I could upload a video, but I reached the upload limit, and some of the older topics where I had put videos in the past, are not available for deleting attachments anymore …

Yes, i've checked that thread. It was A_B_C  who started it. I'm suggesting to move it so it gets more visibility on the "main" Feature Requests section. The old one was posted in the pre-relase Beta section and was later archived which should not happen there. In any case the dev team has access to all archived posts (bugs and features requests).

I'm editing the title a little to make it more clear (hope you don't mind) and moving it to the Feature Requests section.

I believe @manuschwendener.ch is requesting this feature, that is, the ability to undo crop steps rather than the whole crop action. This comes from a previous feature request thread that was archived from the pre-release Betas of Affinity Photo, but wasn't implemented.
The request is to undo the crop to the latest crop's grid position/size (for further adjustements), rather than to the begining of the whole crop process. Unless i'm mising something here. Maybe we should move this to the Feature Requests thread...

https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/6374-crop-tool-additional-history-step: link no longer working, but topic not solved:

When I crop a picture and then want to change the cropped area I click cmd+z.

    What I'd expect to happen:
See the picture in the size like before the crop, but still show me the crop lines, so I can just drag the rectangle around or adjust its size.

    What happens:
I get to see the picture like before the crop, but lose the lines, the ratio, the setting "overlay none".

Background: I use my photos for postcards, the ratio is 148:105. I only see if a crop looks "right" after I cropped - I then often want to adjust it just a little bit - but have to start over again.

    Hey fellow Affinity friends!

Have some new styles – fresh of the press. :)
Played around with styles today and came up with
the idea of the letterpress effects.

A bit desdaturated, but these are just the presets. Obviously you can try different
blend modes, colors and backgrounds. This is how the four different styles look
like if you use them directly on text or vector layers.
Use on path-based layers recommended, the effect doesn't show off well on pixel layers …

And this is what they may look like after fiddling around with perspective and
    some further effects applied.

Anyways, the afstyles are packed as a zip – have fun messing around! :D

    Does this help? https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/10500-open-splash-screen-examples-not-downloading/?p=44970

    1) the red cross is to cancel the download; once you see it, the dowload has begun
    2) the white circle around the picture fills with blue to show you the progress of the download (see the fox picture on the screenshot)
    3) after the download is finished, click on the picture again to open it in AP

    Hi,

I think it was working, but it can take a long time to download the samples if they are big. Try clicking one again, so the small red cross appears - but this time wait a little longer - you should start to see the circle around the sample fill with blue - this is a download progress meter. Once it has completed, clicking the sample again should load it :)

    Hope this helps,

    Andy.

manu schwendener reacted to MattP in Help! AP is very slow & laggy on my MBP
    Hi To Affinity & Beyond,

I'm sorry you're experiencing problems - I just wanted to affirm to you that we are reading the forums and I noticed your post but as yet haven't had anything to suggest other than what other users are suggesting... I have a 2008 MacBook Pro with SSD (I retrofitted it) running Mavericks and it's genuinely pretty nippy with Affinity - it's not instant, but it's not going to be instant - it is, however, quicker in Affinity than in any other software I can find to run on it... You're using images from a 7D on a 6 year old Mac so it's not going to be instant either, but it shouldn't be a bad experience so it does sound like something's amiss - but as to what, I'd need to see the physical machine and interact with it in order to determine where the problem may be - not something that's trivial to do remotely.

One thing I would say is just start up the program with Ctrl held down (hold down Ctrl as soon as you click to launch the program and keep it held) and it will bring up a dialog offering to reset settings - select all options and just reset them. The factory defaults are almost always the best starting point and unless you know what you're doing you can actually make things worse. Also, don't worry about what RAM Photo says it will use - it's not actually currently using that RAM - it's just what limit to hit before it starts paging to disk.

(@maritan - unless you're doing exactly the same test with exactly the same files, the numbers you see may be very different)

After you've reset everything, you can try to debug where your problems are... Start with a 1024x1024 pixel document - now paint on it with the default brush tool - is it still laggy? If so, your machine is just not performing at all as well as my older 2008 MacBook Pro! If all seems well, try again with larger image sizes until you start to see problems.

When you talk about the exposure slider - I assume you mean in the Develop Persona? If so, that's dealing with converting your RAW file and applying all your existing settings and your new exposure value each time you move the slider - so it's not going to be particularly swift... there are definitely optimisations we will do in the future that will change this, but for now, if that is how you are measuring performance then you will not be able to make that quick... As a matter of fact, are you always referring to operations done in the Develop Persona? Everything is done from the original RAW file each time you make any change so this Persona will be significantly slower than any other part of the program.

I think that ultimately if the experience is generally poor for whatever reason, unless we can stumble across the culprit it's going to be very hard for you to enjoy the program :(

Just wanted you to know that you're not being ignored - it's just that without actually seeing the machine there's not a lot we can suggest that hasn't already been suggested...

    Thanks,
    Matt
