  1. > clean up my photographs My suggestion would be: start with a picture that has a relatively easy problem that is bothering you. (Did you get the inpainting brush to work, by the way?) The steps I most often use in Affinity Photo are - cropping * - brightening a picture with the 'Level' adjustment - cleaning up some clutter with the inpainting brush (or, if that isn't working: with cloning and then using the inpainting brush to get rid of the traces of the cloning) ** I write this mainly to show you: Affinity photo is a powerful tool, but it can also be used for basic retouching steps. When you want to straighten a picture, make sure that in 'Preferences - Performance' you have chosen 'View quality - Bilinear', otherwise the result can look wrong. * https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/12394-what-happened-to-topic8799-crop-tool-inconsistency ** https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/10190-photo-replace-one-colour-with-another-like-red-eye-removal-but-with-colour-picker I also found this very interesting:
  2. > I don't get what the point is about hue vs. color I can't answer that, but the effect is that the color replacement brush doesn't work at all on white/grey/black and not with the expected result on desaturated colors.
  3. The color replacing brush should be called hue replacing brush - I'd be using an actual color replacing brush all the time. (https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/10190-photo-replace-one-colour-with-another-like-red-eye-removal-but-with-colour-picker)
  4. A shot in the dark: have you tried cloning as a workaround? When retouching doesn't work for me it's usually because the wrong layer is active. In rare cases because the correct layer is active, but locked <- both happen as by-products of some other steps while I'm editing the picture.
  5. "Editors from the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) member magazines recently met for their General Assembly to vote for the best photo and imaging products launched by the industry in the last 12 months."
  6. It's bundled with the Healing brush / Red eye removal tool: click on the little arrow to see the other options
  7. As a test: open a picture you haven't worked on yet at all, use the inpainting brush as the first thing you do - still no red line? If in this case you _do_ get the inpainting brush to work, maybe this screenshot will help for the other cases: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/16678-inpainting-brush-tool/&p=75620
  8. From https://affinity.serif.com/blog/affinity-at-the-photography-show-2016:"... the accuracy of cutting subjects from background ..." I've been using two methods so far: - Filter - Colours - Erase White Paper - Selection Brush Tool ( ) Does the blog text mean one of these? Or is there another way?
  9. > what I am searching for is that my custom preset will be the first in the list I'd like that, too: being able to change the order of the dropdown (and/or delete the settings I don't use). (https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/15061-tiny-detail-add-cropping-presets-at-top-instead-of-bottom)
  10. For an example, see screenshot. The four lowest settings are my custom presets. As crabtrem mentioned, you first have to open a picture -> crop tool -> mode -> custom ratio -> enter the settings -> BEFORE you crop your picture: 'Add preset' -> name your preset in the appearing popup window. Being able to set a preset as the default crop setting should come with the next master release (so called sticky settings; no release date announced yet).
  11. > free since yesterday see https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/19182-google-nik-collection-is-now-free-for-everyone
  12. No change in the beta yet, either, as far as sticky settings are concerned. (Tool presets is on the roadmap, though https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/10075-affinity-photo-feature-roadmap )
  13. No problem. Scaling down might do the trick (although 1500x1500 px was still too big). Thanks for the tip anyway :-)
  14. > easily manage EXIF Pixave displays the EXIF data - but maybe by 'manage' you mean something else.
  15. > seems to directly support Affinity applications Yes, it opens .afphoto files. Edit: but it's not a pretty sight:
  16. Not working well for me, no. Keeps freezing.
  17. Hi I'm so looking forward to getting away from the photos app that I just bought Pixave. First impressions: - They seem to be evolving fast, so I hope they'll add what I'm missing soon. The good: - Customizable The bad: - Zooming with the trackpad gesture doesn't seem to work. I won't really use it until this is added Edit: this is possible now The ugly: - There is a frame around the previews that apparently can't be turned off yet. Argh! :( Edit: there's a chance it will become optional: https://twitter.com/PixaveApp/status/733906989625970688
  18. Also https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/18914-this-forum-untangle-ap-ad-mac-ap-ad-windows (and https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/15544-request-separate-photo-and-designer-forums https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/11155-separate-forums-for-ap-and-ad https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/10900-splitting-forums https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/10165-would-you-consider-dividing-the-forum)
  19. Did you try the Inpainting Brush Tool? It's not always the solution, but it's certainly where I'd start.
  20. All I'm saying is: it might be a good moment to split the sub forums; AP and AD were separate subforums before the official launch - that worked better for me than mixing the threads, but of course it's up to the Affinity team to decide what's more practical for them. Affinity Photo is a marvellous product, I'm glad for any new user they get.
