> Why does the crop rectangle move outside of the image? If I have decided to crop an image, ... why would I want to move outside the confines of my picture?
This is a bug. I've been waiting for it to get fixed since before the official launch of Affinity Photo https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/12394-what-happened-to-topic8799-crop-tool-inconsistency.
It's keeping me from promoting AP to my colleagues. -
Bought it, too - not using it, either.
-
Glad to see you got the hang of it :-)

For me it works when I open a photo, activate the red eye removal tool and just click on some red in my photo. You have to wait some seconds until the change from red to grey happens.

The perspective tool is working much better now for how I use it in combination with cropping, thank you :-)
(Grid used to stay original size, no matter how small my cropped part of the picture was.)
Edit - unfortunately this improvement has disappered again in 1.5. Beta 3

Not sure if 'lots of small improvements' will cover that, though.. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/21056-whats-coming-in-affinity-photo-15/?p=98943

Hello Jon
Any chance you could fix this https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/12394-what-happened-to-topic8799-crop-tool-inconsistency? Would save me a lot of time.. -
Thank you, paolo

background stays transparent in .psd, .png, .gif, .tiff, .svg now - that must be enough :-)

Thank you paolo - got it to work in psd but not in png or tiff.

Hi
Beginner question (searching the forum didn't help):
In AP, Filters - Colours - Erase White Paper is super easy - but after exporting as jpeg the background is white again, not transparent. Which step am I missing?
-
> it is adjustment layer as far as I can tell [...] but buggered if I can find your pixelate stuff or how to change settings as you mention.
If you look at my screenshot in post #4 again: you have to chose Background (Pixel) instead of Levels Adjustment.

Hi Trial&Error, good to see that you got it to work :-)
It is not a bug. But I agree with you that it would be nice if there was some sort of warning when you're trying to use the inpainting brush on a layer where it has no effect https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/17922-warning-when-inpainting-tool-is-used-on-wrong-layer

I might misunderstand you, but isn't that what 'Stacking - Object removal' is for?

I have to save some of my pictures at 2 MB or slightly below. Can't see how to do that.

> clean up my photographs
My suggestion would be: start with a picture that has a relatively easy problem that is bothering you.
(Did you get the inpainting brush to work, by the way?)
The steps I most often use in Affinity Photo are
- cropping *
- brightening a picture with the 'Level' adjustment
- cleaning up some clutter with the inpainting brush (or, if that isn't working: with cloning and then using the inpainting brush to get rid of the traces of the cloning) **
I write this mainly to show you: Affinity photo is a powerful tool, but it can also be used for basic retouching steps.
When you want to straighten a picture, make sure that in 'Preferences - Performance' you have chosen 'View quality - Bilinear', otherwise the result can look wrong.
I also found this very interesting:
-
> I don't get what the point is about hue vs. color
I can't answer that, but the effect is that the color replacement brush doesn't work at all on white/grey/black and not with the expected result on desaturated colors.

Then it should be called 'Add canvas'.
---
- I open a photo that has landscape proportions (width > height)
- I want to crop part of that photo - not add anything to it
- I have to move the crop lines to be within the photo (see screenshot)
This is a bug because it works as expected for photos with portrait proportions (height > width).
