  1. If you didn't add any layers on purpose it can have happened automatically with one of the corrections/adjustments you made.

See screenshot for a typical situation for me: I use the levels adjustment to make the picture brighter - if I afterwards want to use the inpainting brush or such I first have to click on the Layers tab in the right hand column (because the Adjustments tab is selected) and then select Background instead of Levels Adjustment.

  2. 'Fence' is finished and replaced: http://manuschwendener.ch/2015/07/26/zolli-2

    > replace the dark fence with one of the greens next to it

selection and refine selection, invert selection (to preserve the Meerkat's fur next to the fence)

loads of inpainting brush a bit of clone, dodge, burn and sponge, all at less than 100% opacity

Still would have preferred to just change the colour of the fence to green, keeping the texture - and be done with it ;)

Rui, thanks again for posting the .afphoto file for the columns; I'll try to follow your steps - might take some time..

  3. 'Boy' is finished and replaced, thank you all for your help (http://manuschwendener.ch/2015/07/10/aarhus-aros-art-museum, last picture).

    > hide the bright light source close to his left eye

selection and refine selection (tutorial videos), clone tool with opacity lower than 100%

    > replace the yellowish parts of the ceiling with the cooler colour next to it

    selection, sponge brush to desaturate

    > replace the dark lines above his arms with the colour of the ceiling

    clone tool

  4. The red x confuses a lot of people. The trick is to ignore it and wait a bit: after some time, there should be a thin blue circle starting to get filled up around the example picture: this is your status bar.

The red x is meant to interrupt the download, the blue circle takes some time to _start_ and then still is very discreet..

Another source of confusion can be: the pictures load _within_ Affinity, not on your desktop or in your download folder.
