  1. Hello!

I remember writing about this several years ago, but nothing seems to have been changed as of yet.

Why do the Paint Brush and Pixel tools have different contextual alternatives?

Is there a reason as to why you can not use the same functionality with the Paint Brush tool as with the Pixel tool (personally I'm mainly interested in the "Drag+Shift to constrain stroke" option)?

I'll add my name to this one.

    BUT!

It should not be just horizontal or vertical, it should be any angle:

Modifier key to set the line by click-drag. Then release and you've set the angle.  Draw your line, or lines, then Modifier click again to dismiss the constrain.

Simple and incredibly useful for precise accurate work.

I understand the utility in the method you describe, but I do think there is also value in the simpler approach as well, as it is less cumbersome and more fluid for sketching purposes, allowing for gradual layering of value, coverage, grain, gradients, while also not interrupting the overall experience of drawing as much as a procedure that would require multiple steps (in your case it would be a matter of initiating a "press", "align" and "release" action with your fingers in that order, as opposed to just a "press" or a "release" at the respective ends of the period spent working in the constrained mode).

It is also worth keeping in mind that, as demonstrated in Corel Painter, 45-degree diagonal angles could easily be supported as well within the same modifier-behaviour utilised in Photoshop. Straight lines could also be made arbitrarily by clicking between end points with the modifier key activated.

Perhaps there is a way to enable all solutions, depending on the users preferences?

Money is not the problem and as I said earlier we’ve been trying to hire for what seems like years. We are all doing overtime (and then some) - we are doing the best we can and will continue to do so. The reality is that this is a niche area for developers and you need to be genuinely interested in the subject in order to thrive...

What kind of programming expertise are you looking for, more specifically?

  4. I've seen this question asked quite a few times on this forum. Yet, it is - along with the feature request of adding the Pixel Brush Tool constrain stroke function to the Brush Tool - inexplicably missing from the common feature requests thread

What does it take for a request to be added to the aforementioned thread, and is there any chance that they will be added sometime in the future?

Again, I've seen these two things brought several times, often without any feedback from the moderators and/or developers, and it is a bit disheartening, especially with how good everything else already is in the Affinity application lineup.

I understand that it's not fair to compare the resources of Adobe and Affinity, but - at least to myself - even just a short "no, this can no be done" would be preferable to silence. At least that way some of us can move on and look for other solutions.

  5. I put in a request for additional modifier keys for the Paint Brush Tool in Affinity Photo in the Feature Request section of the forum, but garnered no replies.

I'm aware that it is probably not a feature that will be implemented any time soon, as the Affinity Team have a bunch of other things of higher priority to take care of.

However, I still would like to know what the rationale was behind adding certain modifier hotkeys to the Pixel Tool (cmd + drag to erase, shift + drag to have lines constrained horizontally/vertically), and not adding them to the Paint Brush Tool as well? The latter modifier option in particular is something that I use in Photoshop all the time, and it is the one thing that is keeping me from switching. It is a shame for me personally, because like I wrote earlier, there is so much to appreciate with the Affinity application lineup.

I have seen several other request threads for this feature as well, so I know that I'm not completely alone in at least wanting some clarification regarding this matter.

Any light shed is deeply appreciated. Thank you so much for all your awesome work so far!

  6. Correction: Photoshop can't do diagonal lines either with it's constraint, so I guess I stand corrected on that aspect (I think I conflated Photoshop with Corel Painter)!

I understand if your workload is filled up with other tasks that take precedence, or just don't want to expand on this issue, but I wonder what the rational was behind giving the paint brush and pixel tools different modifier options?

  7. It is already possible to make perfect horizontal and vertical lines while drawing/sketching in Affinity Photo, but only with the pixel tool ("Drag+shift' to constrain stroke").

How come this option is not available for the paint brush tool?

In fact, there's even another option that is available only for the pixel tool: "'Drag+command' to erase".

I'm not a programmer, so I don't have the technical insight, but I wonder why these two tools don't share the same options? I have seen people request a constrain function for the paint brush tool a few times on this forum, and I wonder if you plan to add the pixel tool functions to the paint brush tool? It's the only thing that is keeping me from switching from Photoshop at this point (only other thing would be to enable 45 degree diagonally constrained strokes as well)

All in all I really like and appreciate all the work you have done so far. I wish you all the best with your future endeavours :)
