Allsop reacted to firstdefence in Metadata in Affinity Photo for Mac
There is an EXIF Panel View > Studio > EXIF Within this Panel you have the options to view information as a Summary, All, RAW Data
You can add information into a Description section but I don't think that's what you want is it?

Hey Allsop, is it a Canon Powershot or another type of bridge camera by chance? These generally have cropping/correction instructions written into the exif data (I presume you're shooting raw?) in order to discard the edges of the frame, which as you can see are unusable. At the moment Photo doesn't read or use these instructions, so it just processes the entire image frame.
There are some ways around this:
Coming from a glass-half-full perspective, because Photo isn't discarding any pixel data, you can at least determine exactly how much to crop out. For example, you might want to crop out just some of the edge detail, then use inpainting to try and replace the remaining unusable detail. As Jack has mentioned, in the Develop Persona (when you first open the raw) you can move across to the Lens panel and use Scale to scale the image up and gradually remove the unusable areas. If you're on Mac, you can switch across to Apple's Core Image Raw engine rather than SerifLabs, and this will automatically crop into the image so you'll never see the unusable areas. To do this, in the Develop Persona, click the tuxedo icon on the top toolbar, and change RAW Engine to Apple (Core Image RAW).
Hope that helps! (Apologies for the bolding, just wanted to highlight key areas of the UI)

Hi Allsop :)
What camera are you using? You can check the supported list here. You can use the Lens panel in the Develop Persona to remove distortions, you may find this tutorial helpful.

You can find the Vignette Live Filter under the Layer menu, New Live Filter Layer, Vignette Filter (fourth from the bottom).
Bear in mind that when you apply a live filter AP automatically adds the filter to the selected layer.
If you want to add the filter to the very top of your layer stack then you can either press ESC on the keyboard or choose Deselect Layers from the Select menu.
Lastly, there is also an option in the Assistant (the tailcoat icon on the toolbar next to the snapping icon's group) where you can set a global preference for the above-mentioned behavior, choosing to either have the filter layer added as a child layer or as a new layer. Tweaking this preference will affect all next Affinity Photo sessions.

There's also a way to do this in the Develop Module. It's under the Lens tab> Post Crop Vingette. It works kind of like the vignette section in Lightrorom, though I think it works backwards to Adobe's approach. You have the sliders: Intensity, Scale, and Hardness. Sliding the Intensity to the left darkens the image. Scale changes how much of the image the vignette covers, and hardness the ring of the vignette. I don't see a control for midpoint like in Adobe, where you can adjust the center of the vignette. It's always at the center of the layer you selected.
cheers!

To record a macro, Affinity's equivalent to Adobe's preset, Click View > Studio > Macro. From there click record. Anything you do from this point will be recorded until the stop recording button is clicked.
Click layers > New Live Filter Layer > Vignette Filter. Use the sliders to get the required effect you want. Return to the Macro function and click stop recording. Click the add to libraries button where you will be prompted to give your macro a name. Do so and your macro will appear in the Library.

This is a way to do a little more creative vignette effect.
You get lots of control over how and where you want the effect.
If you've made it on one picture you can simply copy it to other images.
Cheers :)

Allsop reacted to crabtrem in Ditching Adobe for Affinity Cataloguing?
I wanted an App that didn't use a database. I wanted an App that would work directly with the directory structure and files.
I found that in the Slides App.
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/slides/id825754391?mt=12
I have actually stress tested this App pretty hard, and it does take a lot to bring her down. It has to be able to read the folder each time, and I expected that delay. Not having a normalized database in the middle. It isn't bad though, and the display, sorting, and viewing options are outstanding. I don't have to worry about some database, and organization is reflected directly by my directory structure. Viewing various levels of directories is easy. Overall I am very happy with this program, and would highly recommend it.

Allsop got a reaction from Elf in Plug in compatibility
Ideally I would like to have seen the plugin issue resolved before going prime time but as it has not then until it is I will only be using Affinity as second to Lightroom & Photoshop.

Allsop reacted to protoplasmia in Plug in compatibility
I've got some of the NIK plug-ins working ... others like Vivenza don't work (like other postings here ... it comes up with an error message when trying to invoke it).
I also have Fisheye Hemi installed in Affinity Photo (works in Photoshop and Lightroom) ... but invoking it does nothing to the photo.
Like others have said, only reason to finally abandon Photoshop and Lightroom is support for the major plug-ins out there.

I agree wholeheartedly with Pentaxian especially when he says that this should take precedence over other things. This is so important to the ultimate success of this app.

QP Card has 2.5 cm white, 2.5 cm grey, 2.5cm black on it.
Place next to the object that you are photographing then open in the photo in Photoshop using the eye droper click on the grey and prestos you have the correct colour.

I agree totally with Pentaxian. Affinity has great potential. But if Affinity will not support plugins like Topaz. Then Affinity is just another Pixelmator.
If Affinity fix this I am serious in to dumping photoshop, and just go for Affinity.
But at it is for now - Photoshop is my tool.

I suspect that the Affinity team have been caught with pants down on this - they may not have realised just how widespread the use of 3rd party plugins actually is.
I'm loving Affinity Photo already, but I can't consider it as a serious replacement for Photoshop until most, if not all, of my plugins work with Affinity Photo. I have so many workflows that I do routinely that depend on the use of things like Topaz and many other plugins and can't achieve what I need to achieve without them. Maybe there are workarounds using the Affinity built-in effects, many of which I have yet to explore, but given that most of us will already have "muscle memory" for flipping out to a plugin or three, I think the compatibility issue needs to be number 1 on the priority list of things to do - pronto.
However, given the perceived keenness of the Affinity team to support users and work with people to resolve issues, I am hoping that this will happen quickly now they have a released app to use with the plug-in developers.
I think this should take precedence over things like adding new features, for example. It should be major bug-fixes first, then plug-in compatibility, especially for the major ones like Topaz, Nik, Noise Ninja, OnOne, Photomatix, etc.
Until that happens, I'd suggest that Affinity refrain from submitting Photo for major reviews by photography magazines, blogs, etc - the plug-in problem would weigh heavily against the app. But once the compatibility problem is sorted, then they need to get the app out there to as many photographic sites as possible for review - it would stand up really well.
Sorry for the unasked-for advice, but that's how I see the priorities at the moment.
