From what I have read over the years in the forums the text engine will have to be rewritten or something like that.

Software companies always charged for version upgrades. Remember Adobe before the subscription model? About every 2-3 years you had to purchase the next version. If you had CS2 you had to pay to get CS3 if you wanted the updates. On the Macromedia side I had just purchase FreeHand 7 then 8 came out soon after and it wasn't free but was offered at a discount.

The main reason I bought the app was to come here and listen - or, I guess, read - all the harping. Personally, since V2 seems to be on it's way, I want to hijack the thread and turn it into the V3 thread. Will V3 be forthcoming? What advancements can we expect, and when will V3 be released? Imminently? Beginning of the year? Right after V2? Concurrently? Why cant company people answer these questions? Every other software companies does. Will V3 run on Linux? Will V3 have everything I want, or will I have t suffer through the demands of what others want for V3? Why is it taking so long?
😇
Edited to add apologies for the grammar and spelling and ptypos, but it was early in my part of the world, I hadn't had my coffee, and furthermore, I just plain don't feel like doing proper edits.
LOL Whats funny is the company that owns Clip Studio Paint did this. After 10 years they announced V2.0 and 3.0..LOL It was and still is kind of confusing.

Well Serif says V2 by the end of the year so they could announce anytime between tomorrow and the next 3months.

I'm sorry how this thread degenerated.
I was convinced something was wrong with Serif because the latest AP release contains a bothersome bug with redrawing. I was expecting a fix to be released soon. If it wasn't for this problem, I wouldn't have started any thread.
Yes, AP contains a few flaws that bother me (and other users), but I love this software. So please let's all be patient.
Yeah the software is great. Each app is only several features away from blowing away other apps.

The subscription model if you want to call it that I think would work for Serif is the model the UI app Sketch uses. When you buy you get 1 year of updates then after that you can still continue to use the software going forward. If at some point you see updates you think are worth it you pay the renewal fee for another year of updates. Doing this affinity would need to be consistent with updates.

It hasn't been a year yet since 1.10.5 so there will probably be something soon. Heck I am still discovering things in the current release and whenever the next update arrives I would hope there are updates to the core features like more path and node editing options etc.
-
A roadmap like others have posted would be nice or at least we started working on features X, Y and Z and the beta will be soon. Anyways it is definitely time for some major updates since it seems like the last few months went to speed improvements etc.
-
Well with the timelines Serif has released in the past 2.0 could possibly show up end of year or early next. All the bug fixes might be 1.10, 1.11 etc.
December 2015 - 1.4
December 2016 - 1.5
November 2017 - 1.6
June 2019 - 1.7
March 2020 - 1.8
February 2021 - 1.9
Fixing all the bugs with some usability fixes and updates of current features would be a good foundation to introduce brand new features later.
-
LOL They can have a power nap after a few more features are added.

You're welcome.
Yes GarryP thank you..lol How did I not see this?? I don't think I have even seen a tutorial showing it either.

This is a option I mentioned that would be great in another thread. Contour gradient that follows what ever shape you draw or distort.
-
LOL every-time this is asked the lyrics from the 80's cartoon Galaxy Rangers song pops in my head.."Somewhere in the future, far away from here.."..LOL Hopefully one day soon. Like I mentioned on another post it would be cool to at least get a heads up of any new features we will see in the future/next beta, or even some vid's of alpha work. The Adobe illustrator dev's have been doing that.
-
I would like this option but really don't need it. I have had to create windows .ICO files that have multiple sizes and different bit depths or windows dev environment will reject the combined file. The app that does this very well and free, GIMP...lol I have this app specifically for making .ICO files.

@Patrick Connor Sorry it's not bashing just a customer talking with folks in this forum. As you can see from the topic of this post there are concerns from people. And if Serif hasn't hired enough dev's because of $ then maybe ya'll should look at the Sketch pricing model mentioned here as well so each app can get the attention it deserves and grow at a faster pace.

I've said this before, but my biggest wish for the Affinity suite is not any one feature, but a new business model. Look at what the UX design app Sketch has been doing with an annual update program: They added more features last year than Affinity Designer probably has in the past four, and they did it without a subscription. Instead, they sell one year of updates – after one year, you can still use the last version you updated to, and it's your choice to renew to get the latest release.
Basically, I want Serif to start charging at least a little more so they can fund development more sustainably. I don't expect them to keep shipping great new features when the last time I gave them any money was 2014, but they need to give me that opportunity to support the company.
I was just saying this on facebook..LOL This model would make sense. Since the release of publisher + the ipad versions the dev teams seem to be spread thin. Hopefully they aren't hoarding big features for a paid 2.0 upgrade. The Sketch model would allow them to hire and give each app the attention it deserves.
-
The Affinity team took down the roadmap awhile ago but it would be nice if they did something like this. While the 1.9 release candidate is being tested they could post what they plan to tackle in the next 1 or 2 updates. For example we plan on tackling gradient mesh and vector distort in ver 1.10, and bug fixes only in 1.11. This way us user's have a idea of what to look forward to. Right now the beta comes out and you look at the release notes and go aww still no features requested 4 years ago only bug fixes.
-
The last few beta updates have been pretty quick. Hopefully a few requested features from users will make an appearance in the next few.
-
@R C-R I wouldn't mind it if ver 2.0 had a higher price tag as well. We also know Affinity needs to make money, so I can see Affinity Introducing a pricing model like the UI app Sketch. For example you still buy the app for $50 but you only get free updates for 12 or 24 months. After that time you continue using the current version you have forever and when you feel like upgrading again you pay a discounted amount of like $30.

Blend tool in Designer
in Feedback for the Affinity V2 Suite of Products
Posted
A blend tool would be nice. I have said before that Affinity Designer is only several features away from being on par if not better then Adobe Illustrator. Maybe a bunch of most requested features will be in 2.5? the .5's seem to be the larger feature updates.
