I wholeheartedly agree. Scripting is useful only when you can script everything you can do in the interface. That's what sets InDesign scripting apart from Photoshop, Illustrator and all the other scriptable Adobe applications. In InDesign you can script everything. Photoshop and the others expose only part of their document models, which has frustrated script writers for years. I'm for JavaScript and/or Python. If you go for JavaScript, please add a component that allows us to read and write files.

It would be nice to be able to set color to guides, and individually would be nice too.

As for the 4 color suits. I'm really on the fence about this one. I really like how they look but I understand a lot of people prefer standard red/black decks. I need to think about what kind of audience I'm trying to make this deck for. Here's super rough mock-up of red/black to see how it could look. What do you guys think?

A new update with some added colors and also some more court card additions/modifications. I'm thinking maybe the gold colored parts could be printed with gold foil ink and the rest would be regular colors. Still a lot of work and refining to do but let me know what you think so far!

Wosven reacted to Petar Petrenko in Affinity Publisher is not a copy of InDesign - no massive fail!
I think A-team must make an exception for this app and introduce "global" layers just as in ID and Quark. They will be created on all pages automatically but they must not act as master pages. It means, when you put some object on any of these layers it must not be copied on all other "global" layers. Only on that page.
The other type of layer should be called "local".

This seems to just be a general svg import error across all Affinity apps. I'l get this passed on to the development team

Wosven reacted to A_B_C in Baseline Grid — Conceptual Issues
I wondered about the purpose of the baseline grid buttons on the main toolbar. In my opinion, this is a strange and overly complicated implementation, and so for the following reasons.
When you click the middle button (Show Baseline Grid Manager) the baseline grid manager will open. But what is the purpose of discerning an enabled and disabled (pressed and released) state for this button beyond the trigger action (see my video)? This button is a trigger button, not a switch. So the fact that it currently looks like a switch must be a bug.
But even more important, what is the purpose of having a switch (left button, Enable Baseline Grid) for the baseline grid to be activated or deactivated globally? When I create a grid-fitted document, why would I ever want to disable my baseline grid globally? Just to see my text scramble? No, a baseline grid is not a snapping option, it is a grid option. And fitting a piece of text to the grid is the duty of a paragraph setting. Associating the baseline grid with snapping is a conceptual mistake, in my opinion.
Hope you can see my point.

For this Arial problem, it's not missing, I never checked it but it should be a slight difference in kerning of this font version, and ID don't seem to use the one in the "Document  Fonts" folder associated to the document. It's not a problem, this isn't long text like a novel but lot of data in short paragraphs I need to block page to page, and check at different stages before final PDF. There's not enough difference between fonts to add a page or a line, but text align left will take a little bit more space with one of the font.
As a general rule, I wouldn't work with substitute or missing fonts, and avoid this feature. If I need to change fonts, I do it and I work after on the pages. You can't block your pages/articles with missing or substitute fonts: once the correct fonts are in use, you'll need to adjust again for your texts and your pictures to use all the available space, your columns to be balanced, avoid override, etc.
That's one of the first thing people learn when disabling "hightligh missing fonts" in ID and working with substitutes.
It would be interesting to have the same feature as in ID: APub being able to use fonts stored in a specific folder at same level as the document. App for fonts management like Suitcase are more and more bugged (OSes implementing new features for managing new fonts are part of the problem too!)

    Elinor meets a T-Rex.
I photographed the model Noor Model Noor in an old factory in Gothenburg, rendered the T-Rex in Daz Studio, and composited in Affinity Photo.
A fun shoot with a very professional model, and, as always, a lot of fun to do the composite in Affinity Photo.

The front view stacked from 150 frames. The image is not cropped and uploaded at downsized longer side 3200 pixels instead of the original 4608 pixels.
It took 12 minutes for the "Align merge sources" to complete and 38 minutes for the next step "Focus merge". Total 50 minutes for completing the stack.

My first test on focus stack. The speed of processing was impressive since the working space was set to prophoto-16 bit. It took only a few minutes to complete
25 images alignment and stacking. To compare, one single frame and the final stacked image are enclosed. Only minimal editing  (curves and USM) is done on the stack. The output
is very good. Soon I will be testing with 70 to 160 images taken with microscope objectives.
    Camera- Nikon D3100, Lens Tamron 90mm Macro, f18, 1/3 sec, ISO 200.
    This is the final stack.

The image below is one of the 25 frames.

No, the opposite is the case. In a document with many pages you will lose the overview quickly when you are working only with the existing local layers. Almost every professional Layouter works with "global layers", otherwise you will have to unnecessarily perform many simple actions several times . Luckily, Affinity has already announced in the forum that they are working on global layers. As I understand it, the "local" layers will remain as well. So everyone has the opportunity to use his preferred workflow. In the end, we would have even more options than in InDesign.

If you explicitly tell the program to Replace the fonts on import that is clearly a permanent request/decision on your part
If you don't do that and use Font Manage to manage the missing fonts, using substitutions, then that is clearly temporary as you can change those substitutions at any time

Maybe you should have tried the Beta program of Affinity Publisher. Just to discover that the necessities you bring forward are already implemented.Mind that this is still a beta version of an immensely talented piece of software with keen developers. It can mean that some things do not work as in the olden days. Please keep an open mind and explore this Beta and the finished product. You will be amazed by its potential, given its current state of timely 'infancy'.

Wosven got a reaction from A_B_C in Apply Styles – Options behave strangely
In fact, there's no tick marks on Windows.
I select the desired effect (right-click + select) when I want to apply one of those. (Hoping not to select the badly placed option "Update…" that is near "Apply style xxx and next". )

I'm testing Group styles and Base on styles, and I need to use "Apply xxx to characters" to override the selection formatting.
I'm hoping I'm just too clumsy to get my head around this right now, but it don't feel as natural as it was when switching for QXP to ID (and people using both know how the different ways to use style in those apps can be strange at first).

Not sure what your site is - but there are plugins for wordpress

For instance, you could setup a Issu account and load your pdfs up there - then have a plugin for your website.

Wosven reacted to robinp in Organising Paragraph Styles
So this is what 'Group Style' means. What is the purpose of this over the 'Based on' setting also described by others above?
On the face of it, it seems that one or the other would be adequate. If another dimension of organisation were needed, I would be +1 for folders. It allows organisation beyond whether the styles are similar. For example, you might have a group of styles for a certain section of a document that are based on, but different from, styles in the main body. For example:
    Main styles:
Heading 1 Heading 2 Body Bullet list Number list Appendix styles
Heading 1 Heading 2 Body Bullet list Number list
For very good reasons, the main styles might want to be organised in one folder an the Appendix styles in another even though the Appendix Body style might be based on the Main Body.
Does that make sense? Maybe this is what Group styles do and I have just haven't understood correctly?
