  1. It's the same in French, usually accent replace some letters that at some point grammarians decided to drop since they weren't pronounced or for other raison. But those letters can reappear in verb or conjugations or longer word since they are easier to pronounce with… In the end, French is difficult to learn or master because there's a lot of irregularities. They tried to reform orthograph, but it's worst since it looks like orthograph for dummies. That's a sad part of our education. Orthotypography (spelling + rules for characters and punctuation) isn't teach at school, and usually teacher only know basic rules as: a sentence begins with a capital and ends with a point. I learn most of what I know reading about calligraphy, typography, professionnals or specialised books, etc. talking with co-workers. Editors (books and newspapers) have their own conventions with lists of how to write this and that… And specialists can have different points of view, like on the site orthotypographie.fr where they can spend pages debating about how we should write this or that, listing examples from famous books, and good or bad ones. Today, there's more and more errors in newspapers and magazines, and more in all the document that aren't corrected by copyeditor.
  2. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's the other way. It was “accepted” since accent on lead characters mean more fragile lead and melting a lot more of those characters… and having letter higher than the other ones was another problem… But omitting accent, or part of them in a text is a spelling error. And since there are different possibilities for accentuation, it can lead to terrible misinterpretations (contre-sens). We've got 1-4 accents for the vowels to distinguish meanings, words from verbs, etc. LES FORBANS SERONT JUGES. Les forbans seront juges/jugés. The ruffians will be judges/judged UN INTERNE TUE. 3. Nice one. I would just correct some entries (and not some of them for design purpose)… But it's better when words like "au", "de" stay with the word after them. There're "État" and "Île" to correct, and it's better to keep together "Château /de Rezé" (a place) and "F. Mitterand" (a president).
  4. As discussed in the general Requests, Suggestions & Discussions or in the Questions: Metric system was created at our Revolution to unify with a simple design and simple way to count, and stop using all the old and complicated other systems with difficult conversions or no concordance between mesurements. It's a decimal system, with a standard meter as reference. Using non decimal mesurement is heresy and a bug I feel ridiculous to post thrice the same post. It would be nice if bugs affecting all the apps and discussed in the general parts of the forum was taken in account.

  7. But I think the main idea to post in those forum instead of the bug sections, is because it affects all the apps, and it would be ridiculous to post thrice (or 6 times with the Bêta) about the same subject.
  8. I was talking about using non decimal for the metric system that is decimal. I don't mind if people count with pears, apples and mesure with feet, hands and fingers, cups and such, that's their problem (I only find those measures usefull when cooking: it's easier to use spoons, cups, etc. than weighing small ingredients!) My bad. The 3 posts are in "suggestions & discussions" and this one in in "questions". I'll create a new one and link to the other ones, no need to write all this again!
  9. That's not feature requests but bugs! Metric system was created at our Revolution to unify with a simple design and simple way to count, and stop using all the old and complicated other systems with difficult conversions or no concordance between mesurements. It's a decimal system, with a standard meter as reference. Using non decimal mesurement is heresy and a bug Same point with the automatic French quotes that insert wrong characters (‹›) instead of the ones we find in almost each of our sentences: I posted twice about this with no result. Features need to be implemented. Bugs are easiers: they just need to be easily corrected when they are as simple as this.
  10. It was asked more than once to have normalized subdivisions… but I suspect they don't use metric rulers at Affinity so it's not important for them. There's the same problem with erronous French automatic quote. Those flaws aren't reported as bugs.
  11. @John T, I don't think your printer is responsible for this, but if he'd kept the PDF as usually they do as proof when there's a problem, you can get it back from him. It seems you modified the file and the PDF you send is different from the printed earlier version you have. An advice is to always print the final PDF before sending it to the printer and check the pages (you can do it on screen, but usually we pick errors more easily on paper than on screen), correct the errors you find, and create a new PDF that you'll send to the printer.
  12. Perhaps not creating and sending the PDF to print at the end of last minute corrections, but an earlier version. And Affinity apps don't remember last folder as a file option, but as an application option, and I often export or save a document in the wrong folder. It's easy to use an older file by error if you don't check/use the last modified/created info of your files.
  13. @GarryP, He's using space before paragraphs, that's why the lines don't follow the grid and it looks messed up (the text don't fit in a similar regular rectangle shape on all pages). And some paragraph are justified and some other are align to left: it's possible one of those style doesn't align to the grid.
  14. Hi, Can you export a PDF with the same pages too*, and perhaps give an APub file with only those 2 pages? When exported as PDF, items are at specific position (x,y), there's no more grid and margin options, all is fixed and shouldn't move. It seems that your page 18's text jump to an upper grid line when exported to PDF, as if APub, instead of using the already set position of your document, recalculate its position before creating the page. * Or better, extract the 2 pages from the PDF you send to the printer?
  15. Hi, Check the feather option of your elliptical selection tool, each selection form keep its own value. With the selection marquee tools, you've got "text button" to choose option ("new, add, subtract, intercept"), near the feather option. The geometry options (add, subtract, intercept, xor, and divide) aren't used with selections, and are only available with vector shapes created with the rectangle tool, triangle tool, star tool, cat tool, etc.
  16. Or, something a little bit different if you are on Windows: using FastStoneViewer, you can add the name (or other data, but not numbers this way) of your pictures on them. This program can batch rename, resize and add the name of your pictures, and you can do this to another folder. I can give more details (and in French if needed) if you're interested.
  17. Hi @Martin Conrad, I'm not sure about your first comment, but there's a search feature at the top of the page, usually. And for the second one, if you're on Windows (but it should be similar on Mac), you can select your text and scroll with the mouse button hover the font size input for resizing the text. You can fine tune the amount on the settings > user interface.
  18. Hi, Look at this setting: the default value is crazy with this font (but not with Arial, for example). Set it to 0 or a more logical value and it should be fine.
  19. Hi, I would have expected some taxes' PDF to be protected, but it can be the same with some bills that usually can be used as proof you're living at this address, etc. Some files can only be printed but not modified, you can't select its text…
  20. To rasterize your image so the selected area would be cut as expected (after a ctrl+z to get back your layer).
  21. That's why I talked about assigning a shortcut if the real problem is about pixel/image layers. Ctrl+Shift+Enter, this way, I can do it easily, and it's nearly the same as converting to curves, easy to remember, but harder to do for not doing it by error.
  22. But it's a bug and should be logged as such and corrected.
  23. If you want to delete you hit "Delete", if you cut an image layer: "error sound" (it would be strange, since it's possible we added the image in the wrong document… but it's the least annoying option, and ctrl+z is possible too. I don't like pop up each time I do an error, asking me if I really truly wanted to do this stupid action and if I want to continue on this erronous path…). If I do an error and nothing happen… or not the expected one, that's because I wasn't carefull enough (it happens a lot when running some shortcuts in the wrong app and having unexpected results as in Outlook, the app with the weirdest shortcuts defying every shortcuts you know in other apps, for example!).
  24. Perhaps an option* for having one of those annoying error sounds that show everyone around you you did an error *That I would disable!
