Hi,
I think it's a good idea to add a "Rotate Guide" to affinity designer

Hi guys, I am new here in our 4rum but I have used AD for more than 3 years. This is an amazing tool which made me quit all Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. I believe AD can match against Adobe after all. However, the new version of Illustrator 2019 has an incredible feature which is Freeform Gradient. Some people might say meh it sucks but I found out that it is quite cool, especially for people who use AD as a drawing tool and suck in coloring like me.
I am wondering that will AD dev implement this feature to AD in the near future? It is already 10 months since the last update for AD in Mac and I am really excited to know that we will have a new big update for AD.

I really want to give this software a chance. I really do. But every single time I sit down and try to do some actual work, I get introduced to some ridiculous bug. Affinity Doodle 2019 <3

earl_grey reacted to GarryP in Would it make sense to have a “layout persona”?
I think the guides and grids are handled in a little bit of a ‘clunky’ way at the moment. They feel like a bolt-on compared to the rest of the software. Guides and grids are the foundation of a lot of document layouts and illustrations so I think it would be good if the functionality relating to them was handled a bit more ‘smoothly’.
Another example that popped into my head was: If the grid could be manipulated by dragging vertices, a designer could draw an object and then drag the grid to suit that object instead of messing around with a dialog (see my very crude example GIF - I’m sure it can be done much better, I’m just manipulating a bitmap fill to try and put the point across).

No, it has perfect sense. In fact this is exactly how it works in Corel - guides have their own layer, and each one is treated like object, so you can group them, rotate, move, delete etc. separately or in bunch. You can even change their color to make them more visible in certain scenarios.
Current implementation of guides managment by Serif is very cumbersome and not intuitive at all.

earl_grey reacted to Jhonatan S in Drawing and Vectoring - DONUT - Tips & Tricks
Hi! very happy to say that this week we've achieved 5k of subs on my youtube, thanks for everyone for keep up, I love to do my things on affinity designer, it's very friendly and inspiring! now in this one I did a Donut using Affinity Designer on ipad pro. enjoy!
Best tips - Techniques 0:55 use the Erase layer mode to "Subtract" a shape behind, remember to keep the objects at the same group! 2:27 you can build shapes by drawing vector shapes - then you Expand Strokes at top menu 3:55 use pencil tool and sculpt the lines as you wish 4:02 you can add drop shadow FX on the group of lines and apply to them all

You’re welcome.
Personally I think a persona for page layout functions – guides, grids etc. – would be a nice thing to have but I don’t know how well it would work in conjunction with Publisher which has master pages (each of which can have their own guides etc.).
I’ve added a new thread to see if the idea has any traction: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/94513-would-it-make-sense-have-a-“layout-persona”/

Managing columns, rows, guides and grids is currently done via various manager dialogs and is a little bit ’old school’ considering how smoothly the rest of the software works.
Would it be possible, or even make sense, to have a new persona where we can manage all of this kind of thing?
I don’t know how this would work with Publisher and its master pages (e.g. different guides in different master pages) but I think it would make Designer easier to use.
I’m imagining features such as being able to:
* use power duplicate on guides;
* group or mass-select guides to manipulate them together;
* drag the grid itself to change its size and orientation;
* save guides/layouts for import into multiple projects;
...and I’m sure other people have better ideas.
I haven’t thought this through very much so there could be major problems with the idea but I wanted to throw it out into the community to see what people thought about it.

Nice work.
One thing I noticed was that you seem to use rectangles to construct the layout quite often.
Guides could be useful here but if you’re comfortable working your way then that’s absolutely fine.
I only mention it in case anyone reading this hasn’t tried using guides (or doesn’t know about them).
One very minor issue is that all of the files look the same; same name, same date and same size. As I said that’s a minor issue but worth considering for future work, especially work that is used in a professional presentation. (And 24KB will only get you around 1 second of audio at 192Kbps. That’s nit-picking but some people do notice these things.)
All said and done though, a good-looking interface.

Here are some screenshots of a graphic pitch I have worked on. I used Affinity Designer to create graphic labels and texturing maps. Photo was used for some simple easy colour correction. A colleague of mine asked me what is on fire because of the orange sparkles I guess it was the computer during rendering.
Then I used the renders to create a demo animation. Unfortunately this project was not developed into anything real but at least I learned some new things

earl_grey reacted to Bobbie in HELP! Rectangle Tool + Move Feature!!
Hey guys,
I'm not sure if Affintiy Designer can do this but there are 2 really simple features in Illustrator that I'm hoping I can do in Affinity Designer.
1. Rectangle tool - In illustrator you can just select the rectangle tool and click anywhere on an art board and it will give you a window prompt to create the rectangle or circle you need. Is this possible in Affinity Designer?? (see attached)
2. Move Feature - In Illustrator there is the move option (MAC -Shift +command+M) which gives you control on moving an object on your art board. Is this feature available in some capacity in Affinity Designer? (see attachment)
Thanks in advance

Why not just rename and lock it?

earl_grey reacted to TomFulery in Envelope warping, object-distort, perspective tool or fisheye tool?
When will Affinity Designer get an object-distort tool, a perspective tool, a fisheye too or an inset/outset path tool? These are basic features for doing creative work, especially with display text (see attached jpg).
As it is, if I need to do anything like this I have to use free open-source apps like Inkscape or NeoDraw (part of the NeoOffice suite), both of which are harder to use but do way more than Affinity Designer.

earl_grey reacted to Adam Mierzwa in When the Polish language version ?
@Patrick ConnorI use Serif programs (among others PagePlus), but I am convinced that there is nothing to be afraid of the new opening. After today's show I am sure that the company will grow continuously And you will find man-hours for the Polish version - there are many Poles in the UK who know English, someone with a good language and knowledge from the industry will finally join. Maybe some incomplete support (without translation of documentation and similar) - just good language support (checking grammar and Polish interface) would be a big thing.
