  1. I can confirm Font Squirrel and Google Fonts as quality font resources – Font Squirrel not only offers

web fonts but also fonts designed for print. Proper spacing and different weights and styles for almost

all fonts on Font Squirrel, there are many gems to find on that site.

Dafont & Co. don't really have control over what fonts are uploaded/submitted, and that’s why there’s

so much garbage to find … but that’s my opinion. ;)

If you're interested in nice typography, font combination and (mostly) free quality font recommendations

there’s this really nice blog called Typewolf by Jeremiah Shoaf you can follow or subscribe to.

Linotype also has nice special offers from time to time, but mostly paid – veeery seldom from time to time free font demos

you can work or play around with. Just wanted to ad this as a paid alternative. ;)

  2. Oh, I see! That’s actually an acceptable solution mystrawberrymonkey.

The thing is … I'm a really picky perfectionist when it comes to stuff like this.

Well, actually I am picky in all design related stuff – even if it’s »just a mockup«.  ^_^

I ended up with this one, using PS (sorry about that, but I saw no other solution at that point).

Any idea how to achieve this real »rubber stamp« feeling?

Think I need to fiddle this out sometime and save myself a new mockup.

Actually … why don’t we start some kind of resource thread for mockups ready made for AP and AD,

that would be a really nice thing! Or is there an existing thread like this already?  :)

Edit: Oh I totally forgot to mention that I had to readjust the logo about six or seven times, three

changes day or so. Just thinking about tweaking that mockup every time by hand gives me frustration.

  3. Thanks mystrawberrymonkey for this quick look at some of the technics to use mockups!

When I was talking about mockups I thought about this free mockup for example I wanted to use.

I had to create a logo that eventually was produced as a logo last week, ended up using PS for

this mockup. I think mockups like this are really really – really – difficult and time consuming to

reproduce without the smart objects being importing properly. (I think, honestly I haven't even tried.)

  4. Hey MEB, will there be support for different workspaces/studios in the future?

Today I downloaded the AP and AD Customer Beta and was wondering if I can

ex- or import my current panel position and toolbar from the App Store version.

Or is there a location where these settings are stored so I can copy/paste them?

This would also be a nice feature if one woks on multiple computers or for

different purposes e. g. retouching, painting and so on.

    Greetings

    Dennis  :)

  5. I would like to clear this question before picking up the AP deal.  ^_^

Especially displaying logos in mockups is a thing for me, so I definitely use this feature a lot – talking about smartobjects here.

Sure a lot of these things are made with layer effects in Photoshop, and sure one can easily replicate these layer-effects in AP.

But what I really need is to be able to replace the »logo-template-instance-layer« with my own … this is a very important feature for many, many designers I think.

Anyone has an answer on this one, are there plans to integrate it in the future? I can't find it on the roadmap either …  :(

  6. +10000 I use this one ALL THE TIME...

Also d for Default colors - black and white, should work in both Pixel and Vector personas...

And Shift + X to swap fill/stroke or foreground/background colors of the current selection, in the appropriate personas...

    Please   :)  :)  :) Thank you!

Oh yeah, please add all these colour related shortcuts.

These may be some small features, but since AI I've got used to these shortcuts so very, very much … :D

  7. Count me in about the comma thing, I find it very important for the workflow. Rui_mac gave reasonable examples why it should be considered.

Here's another point: this is what german Apple keyboards with numpad look like:

    comma.jpg

So personally I'm very used to commas as decimal separators, other tools on Mac can handle both input, see the calculator for instance I believe.

I never heard of any designer who enters thousands with extra separators in applications or calculations, often everything must be configured as quick as possible – personally I feel it’s just obstructive for the workflow.

It would be different if you're working as a copywriter where this kind of representation may appear in a price tag, headline or any other actual visible thing in the end product for client and customer.

The preference option would be the ideal solution for this feature I think.

  8. I have Astute Graphics plug-ins as well and they make Illustrator much easier to work with. One of the impressive things about Designer is that they have included some of the VectorScribe features natively.

Yeah, you're totally right – I forgot to mention it, thanks for pointing out!
The »white arrow« indeed already has a very VectorScribe like feeling.

I probably got used to it, I didn't even notice.

Edit: Of course the shapes and the corner tool! Oh my … yes, the corner tool made my decision to purchase Designer in the first place, haha.
  9. Oh yes pretty pretty please, I miss these features a lot.

I worked with them in Illustrator almost everyday via the Astute Graphics plugin »SubScribe«.

To be honest almost all there plugins were really great during the trial period – but after that they come with a price tag.

I'd really love to see especially something like the »line tangent to two paths« and »line perpendicular to two paths« option – these would help a lot.

The ColliderScribe plugin is also preeetty nice … sorry for raving so much about it, but their plugins or – more specifically the function they provide – really are that awesome. :,D
