  1. Shoot, I started working on this before I hit the record button, dammit. Watch me apply digital hatching to some areas of my Red Riding Rebel illustration. Red Riding Rebel is my approach for a modern Little Red Riding Hood with a martial arts background. The Character is a part of my five-part series on "Grimm's Fairy Tale". I have already discarded some elements and redesigned them. The burden of creativity. Also someone has to tell me how I can embed videos on the site, because I just can't get it right. Hope you enjoy.
  2. Hey jmac, glad you liked the tutorial. :) The swatches are actually the official Google Color Swatches they released on their sub-site »Google Design«. They’re also describing how to use the colours by building schemes. Besides loots of interesting insights in generell to read and watch, I recommend to check the other categories such as »icons« as well. ;) Have fun!
  3. Ah, nice! Thanks for pointing out that option, A_B_C! :) Strange I haven't thought of it, though I even recently customized the Toolbar …
  4. Pretty nice set over here! Now, evtonic3, please teach me how to set a texture set as a »colour« … haha. I'm totally lost here and very confused as I was searching for it again and again over the past few days. :,D
  5. Hey justwilliam, you're welcome! Wow … this is convenient, veeery nice MEB! And thanks for having me listed! MEB, maybe you can answer this question: I wonder if there’s a way to quickly remove layer styles in AP. I only managed to do this by either unchecking all of them manually or creating a new layer style without any attributes selected in the first place and click on that one every time I want the shapes to be plain original. A »Revert defaults« button like the one in AD would be nice. :) Or am I missing something here?
  6. Wow, these are great – very nice and crisp work Heli Herrera! :o Now I need to investigate the files, thanks for sharing! :)
  7. Thank you! :) Not sure about the »rights management« here, but I just basically search for images like »shirt«, »t shirt«, »plain«, »blank« or »template« on google. Should be okay as long as you don’t pin it on a billboard. Make sure you search for high resolution images (should be always the standard if you're searching for images), choose any colour you like and choose »photos« as the image-type to make sure you get photos of shirts and nothing else. Because I'm a nice guy I invested a couple of minutes and searched for some alternatives. Though their wrinkles aren't that strong, but good for mockups nonetheless: A B C You could also search on graphicburger or similar sites for quality mockups (they got all kind of mockups, not just specifically shirts), though these are manly designed for Photoshop and often contain smart objects that currently get converted into pixel layers in AP. Ooor … you're really cool and take a photo of your own shirts with as much perfectly placed wrinkles as you like – I know, sounds pretty oldschool right? :D
  8. Exactly! It adds a lot of the realness, though you probably could push it even further with better adjusted light direction in the style itself to match the lighting later in the post-process … but I'm thinking of it like a rough mockup-like situation, where you might want to present your client a nice embossing of their future logo on their business card, letterhead or something like that. ;) I'm glad you like it. :)
  9. Hey fellow Affinity friends! Have some new styles – fresh of the press. :) Played around with styles today and came up with the idea of the letterpress effects. A bit desdaturated, but these are just the presets. Obviously you can try different blend modes, colors and backgrounds. This is how the four different styles look like if you use them directly on text or vector layers. Use on path-based layers recommended, the effect doesn't show off well on pixel layers … And this is what they may look like after fiddling around with perspective and some further effects applied. Anyways, the afstyles are packed as a zip – have fun messing around! :D Letterpress & Embossing.zip
  10. Wow, that’s some dedication for a tube of toothpaste. Jokes aside, this is an exceptionally nice rendered work – outstanding job! :D
  11. In order to give proper support you need to be a bit more specific in terms of what kind of transformation you're looking for and what app you're working with – Designer or Photo – though there are similarities. ;)
  12. Hey there, today I worked with the common rectangular selection and was wondering if there’s a way to move the selection while creating it. Situation was I wanted to select a specific area and missed it by one pixel at the top only … I'm used to hold down the spacebar as a modification key and move/adjusting the its position it while creating it as long as the key is pressed. I mostly used it for rectangular, circular and the column selections. Would be a nice addition, so one would save an additional step in creating the selection by drawing another rectangle over the existing one or even create a new one while zoomed in. What do you guys think? :) Cheers Dennis
  13. Thanks guys, glad it’s helpful to you. :) I felt the need to add this just for further explanation: you probably don't want to use the Gaussian blur filter on paper grains/folds or other rough textures like walls or stones where you want to keep the general texture, as every texture needs »special treatment«. In this case I only wanted the folds to stand out. Without the Gaussian blur the streaked texture of the fabric itself would have created massive noise-like distortions. It would look like this without the Gaussian blur, as the displace filter has to much variance in high, low and mid tones to process. It’s a bit like try and error sometimes, but that’s part of the fun. :D And the very, very awesome thing about the Affinity concept is that they’re build on nondestructive work. So you may try different approaches until you get the effect right, even after saving and opening it the other day. Yeah, you can tell I really like the live filters and adjustments … haha. :D
  14. Hey guys! Today I played around with the displace live filter. It’s a very nice and powerful tool to simulate folds of cloths, but also cracks in walls (like shown in one of the official tutorial videos by Affinity), grainy paper textures and so on … This is my first »tutorial« … ever. If you may call it one. So forgive me for eventual mistakes. Though It’s pretty much self-explanatory and not that hard to follow, I think. ;) Like I captioned the video: basically you want to create a separate image with a greyscale profile (at least that’s how I do it), reduced noise and texture plus a good balance between high, low and mid values. Grey fabrics work best if you want to change the colour afterwards. Maybe this helps, have fun playing around with different backgrounds! ;) Cheers Dennis
  15. That’d be really nice, could need that feature right now. :)
  16. Here's another design I created today. It's some kind of stylized album cover named after a subway line in the city I live in. It is a combination of both worlds - vectors and pixels. Haha, please don't judge me, but lately I like to put a noise filter on top of everything else … makes everything look more real, more organic. As if it were printed on really thick, fibrous, high-quality paper.
  17. Haha, I can’t »read« it – but it looks pretty cool on your website! :D
  18. Oh yes, thanks Malcom! I actually played it some time ago – it’s awesome! But I got stuck at some point. Might give another try. The soundtrack is very nice too, listening to it sometimes. The Prettiest Weed is pretty sweet.
  19. Hey there! I’d like to request either a shortcut or a button in the menu to keep or reset the elliptic shape for the Depth of Field Blur filter in AP while or after scaling the affected area. For now it’s possible to hold down shift and constrain the transformation to the selected axis, though honestly I'm not sure when this will get useful for me right now. Not as intuitive but maybe a button in the menu would be nice, so after scaling the ellipse in width or height you would be able to convert it back into a circle-shape with the new dimension. Also the option to hold shift while moving the center of the effect so it’d snap onto the x- or y-axis would be cool. Let me hear what you guys think of this. ;) Greetings Dennis
  20. I played around with this old RAW file that I took two years ago at a fair called "DOM". It's a pretty blurry photo of a ride with a lot of bokeh - Affinity Photo can't really decipher much here, but I like the textures anyway. Processing steps: increased contrast reduced noise added controlled noise added clarity I have also tried to recreate something like a frosted glass pane with various live filters. Since the colours matched my personal colour scheme perfectly, I used the result as a Facebook banner.
  21. Hello folks, My name is Dennis. I created this pixelated self-portrait a few days ago. Started it in Dottable, a pixel-art app on a mobile phone, then traced it in Affinity Designer with the grid snap feature. Then I added a few grunge textures over masked areas, imported it into Affinity Photo, and finished it off with LUT filters and monochrome noise for a subtle paper-like feel. I like how precisely the applications work together and that you can add pixel-based textures directly in Affinity Designer without having to change the application, it integrates very fluidly into the workflow. Anyway, I hope you like the result. Dennis aka MrDoodlezz
  22. Hey there guys. I couldn't find a topic regarding this, I'll just try to describe what I am talking about. :) Not sure if this is a question or a feature request either. Lets say I have a few adjustment layers on top of several motives. I want to export every motive in a separate file with the adjustment layers on top. Like a series: motive_a.jpg, motive_b.jpg, motive_c.jpg, and so on. Right now I only can do this by toggling the motive layers on and off every time I want to export a different one. I’d like to assign what layers to export per slice. I'm aware of the feature to create a slice for exporting one specific layer even if other layers are turned on (so they’re kinda getting ignored), but I'm looking for something similar … like different slices for every motive plus the general adjustment layers. Like this: Slice 1: export layer 1 and adjustment A and B, but not layer 2,3 and 4 Slice 2: export layer 2 and adjustment A and B, but not layer 1,3 and 4 Slice 3: export layer 3 and adjustment A and B, but not layer 1,2 and 4 Slice 4: export layer 4 and adjustment A and B, but not layer 1,2 and 3 … Sorry if this sounds stupid, but does anyone understand what I’m talking about? :D It would make exporting much more efficient in situations like these or even more complex ones, I think. Like you configure it once and hit export all and don't have to change the visibility for every motive. I’ll attach an example file with named layers and slices … maybe that'll help understand what I'm talking about. Maybe there’s even a solution that I don't know yet. Would be handy in Affinity Designer as well as Affinity Photo. Example – Layer Selection Export.afphoto Greetings Dennis
