Greetings everyone!
I've stumbled upon an unusual bug in Version 2.1.1. Here's the situation: I'm designing a four-pointed star-like shape by utilizing the negative space between four adjacent circles with the Shape Builder Tool. After that, I used the Corner Tool to give those sharp points some smooth rounded edges. At first glance, it's perfect. But when I attempt to mirror these particular stars the rounded edges unexpectedly revert.
For context, I've mirrored other designs, like a random shape I created using the Pen Tool + Corner Tool, and they kept the rounded corners, like you'd expect. While I know there's the Star Tool for crafting similar stars, I firmly believe shapes like this created the shape builder tool should handle this as well. To be clear: I'd rather not bake or convert the rounded corners to nodes and keep them flexible/adaptable!
For those who prefer visual explanations, here's a short clip to illustrate the problem.
Maybe some of you might have faced and resolved this, or at least can confirm the bug? Any insights or solutions you can offer would be awesome!
Here's my sample file, if you'd like to try.
Thanks!

Hey everyone, hey @Callum,
quick update: I have to retract my earlier statement that it's working now. The second bug, where the wrong layers get set to invisible, is still not resolved. I've been facing this issue since the feature was introduced. It's quite frustrating.

Hey @NathanC!
Thanks for confirming. And yes, completely deleting the app does feel a bit … extreme. It’d be great if there was an option to reset the color profiles (like with other aspects). Ideally, managing them should be as simple as how we can select and delete custom installed fonts.
Moreover, wouldn’t it be fantastic if these profiles were (optionally) linked throughout the whole suite/across all apps, making the process even smoother instead or managing them for each of the apps individually?

Hey all,
turns out I've managed to import a wrong color profile via the Publisher app on my iPad and want to remove it. I'm having a bit of a hard time trying to figure out how and/or where to find it. Does anyone know how to handle or delete user-imported colour profiles? Any pointers would be appreciated!
Cheers!

Hey everyone,
I'm in the middle of a project and I've hit a snag. I'm trying to remove the background from a person's image. For the smooth parts of the silhouette, like the general body and clothes, I'm using vector shapes, and for the more intricate details like strands of hair, I'm using pixel-based masks. (That's how I've always done it.)
I thought I could use the compound mask option to combine these two masking techniques into one neat mask. However, that doesn't seem to be possible right now. I want the vector shape to stay vector at all costs for better editability. In the past, for projects like this, I've rasterized the vector shape as the last step, but I'd like to avoid that now. I thought the compound mask would be the perfect option for the task.
Has anyone else come across this issue? (Sorry if I missed the thread; if there's one, feel free to point me in that direction.)
Maybe this is something that the devs are already working on?
I'd love to hear your thoughts or any solutions you might have!
Cheers!
Dennis*I've attached the masks as a file for testing purposes.

Apologies for not getting back to you sooner. I don't have any updates for this right now unfortunately however I will chase this up tomorrow when most teams are back in the office as most have left for the day unfortunately.
@Callum, do you have any update on this issue? (I haven’t tried the latest beta yet.)

Hey all,
just wanted to mention that the latest Publisher update (V 2.1.1) still has this issue.
Cheers

@Callum, any news regarding this issue? It's been a couple of weeks now and I still have to deal with this issue every day.

Hey everyone,
the title explains the misbehaviour of the shortcut ⌘D in the Pixel Persona ( Designer, most likely also Publisher).

I can't think of an occasion where I would want the current behaviour. I would always want the line + arrow to become translucent as a whole.
Thank you. Same for me – I don't see the reason (and logic, considering any other kind of »compound object«) behind its current behaviour. 🤷♂️
-
But what do you think would be the overall preferred behaviour in this case?
Should the arrowhead and contour be treated separately, as they are now, with overlapping shapes showing through, although the path is treated as »one shape« when edited? Or would you, like me, prefer the way it works when it is additionally grouped without being treated as separate shapes and not showing through?
For example, for Inkscape or Illustrator it works as you (or at least I) would expect: Without showing the stroke under the arrowhead and applying the transparency to the path as an object or group.

Instead you would have to group two seperate objects (line + triangle shape) yourself here, to get the wanted transparency behavior you're after.

As I initially mentioned. 😉

Read what I wrote, I just said to show and make it more clear what you've already seen there, not that you have always to apply an expand stroke!
In order to get a whole real one part arrows curve object, you would probably have to use (construct) your own here. Like for example shown here ...
See for tryouts and comparison ...
Wait, wait, wait.
Although I appreciate your alternative suggestions, you are taking the discussion in a completely different direction from what I originally intended to discuss with this topic! 😅
To be clear, my feedback/suggestion/question exclusively concerns contours with arrowheads and how transparency works on them – I'm not asking for solutions that are or include expanded strokes, converted shapes, or third party arrow shapes. I’m talking about Vanilla Affinity transparency for contours with arrowheads. 😉
I don't want a one-piece arrow shape, converted, constructed or otherwise – that's not my point.
I want a functioning transparency for regular contours with arrowheads, as shown in my demo.
Aka the contour with arrowheads a) has to remain a contour with arrowheads and b) has to work properly (like any other constructed shape) with transparency.
With »Thoughts?« I was trying to get thoughts on how other members of the community thought this should work.

Expand stroke on the curve and you will see more clearly that such a curve with an applied arrow head is basically constructed out of two objects! - This way you can change the arrow head form appearance as wanted due to the choosen stroke start/end settings.
Thanks, right, I know that. But I want the path with the arrow to retain its editability. So expanding the stroke is not the solution I'm looking for. 😕
And the fact that it is indeed somehow constructed should make it all the more likely to behave like any other constructed or grouped element, e.g. apply transparency as »one« element, not as two or three separate elements, don’t you think? 🤔

Hey everyone,
is this behaviour correct? I noticed that it has always been this way in all versions, which I find a bit odd:
On a path with arrowheads, if you change the transparency, they are treated as a separate object and you can see the underlying path under the arrow.
I would have expected the path not to be seen under the arrowhead and the element to be treated as a whole. You can easily solve this problem by simply grouping the path first, but in my opinion this is an unnecessary step, since the arrowheads and their path are already considered »one element« in one way or another.
Thoughts? See my clip for a demo.
Greetings

Hey folks,
this is quite specific, but I have noticed this behaviour over the last few weeks, perhaps someone can confirm this:
With a selected layer/object/text, when I look up "Text Frame" using the help-search and try to click on the option that links to the panel (located under Window → Text → Text Frame), I get an error sound and nothing happens. However, if I manually navigate there (again, with something selected) and click the help-search-link, it works. To get it to work with the help-search, I have to deselect (everything) and then click the help search link.
I think I have noticed this with other panels, but this one has stuck with me.
Greetings

Hey @Callum,
meanwhile V2.1 was released. So I'm working with my document again today and I'm having almost the same problems as last time. I'm not sure if the linked document is causing the problem or if it's a general bug in Publisher. It just does not work. Sometimes it looks like it's registered my override, but as soon as I save, close and reopen my document it's reset. 😩
Greetings

Hey everyone,
quick question: When editing layer effects in Publisher (before anyone asks, I normally do this in Photo, but I double-clicked and thought it would be easier to change the logo quickly in Publisher), is it supposed to show up like this?
It says »Highlight: Screen«, but when I click on it to change/check the blend mode, it suddenly says »Light Colour« (because I set it to Light Colour). The same goes for »Shadow: Colour Burn«, it changes to »Multiply«, which is the blend mode that's actually configured. I would have thought it would show the currently set blend mode in this view. 🤔A bit confusing to look at without wanting to go in and check everything twice, I think. 🤷♂️
Have a great weekend

I can replicate this issue on my intel mac. there are several icons, which surprisingly do not react on click-drag but especially the one where the wrong value changes...
Does this maybe have to do with undocked panels? In the past there were (and iirc still is) inconsistencies with the <tab> order when undocked, for example...
see video:
Thanks for the demonstration and testing other options! Seems like coding started but wasn't completed properly?

Hi Mr. Doodlezz,
Which OS are you running, I'm unable to recreate this on Publisher 2.0.4.61 on Ventura 13.2.1 (M1).

Hey @Lee_T,
thanks for testing. I'm running V2.1.0, the latest official release/update on 13.3.1 (a) (22E772610a).
