Archangel reacted to MeLlamanHokage in Update Studiolink
Please include the option to update all 3 programs at once so we don't have to load each one and update separately.
If a user owns Publisher, I assume it can see the file paths for the Designer and Photo installs.
The updater should check each program's version and make sure D and P are at least the same version as A

Archangel got a reaction from tzvi20 in Autofit
I think it is about time Autofit (text to frames) functionality was added to Publisher, and possibly Designer and Photo. It is a quick fix for many people who wish to knock up quick layouts and make them look reasonably professional very quickly. PagePlus had impressive functionality in this area and it would be a boon to Affinity.
Mind you some may find this feature a little bit (amateur) in use as well thought out publications would not rely on on-the-fly text size adjustment.
It should definitely be developed before V3 becomes a reality.

I plan to write a script to do this when scripting becomes available. It will be a good way to learn the script model.

Archangel reacted to Patrick Connor in Variable fonts support
Thought is being given into the complications of fully supporting these fonts, particularly exporting to formats like PDF and SVG, which do not support variable fonts natively and therefore need to convert them to traditional fonts at export. Not insurmountable but not straight forward.

Archangel got a reaction from KRYoung in Bespoke Doctor Who Logo
To avoid contravening the BBC's Doctor Who Fan Art rules, I designed a Doctor Who logo for my own use. Retrospectively, it harks back to the diamond logo buy with bolder lettering more reminiscent of the Pertwee and McGann days (but not the same font). I decided to try and incorporate the regeneration effect into the lettering by the use of fire imagery and adding an outer glow.
This was all done using Publisher and Designer.
I will use this final version for the final poster design.

Archangel reacted to v_kyr in Fotosketcher 3.90 has just been released with new painting styles and script options
This “more” somehow suggests that there would already be some kind of Serif-based documentation for creating plugins, which unfortunately is not the case here. All legacy PS C++ Plugin API documents come from Adobe or other third parties. There is nothing that Serif has ever published about this materia, which by the way is pretty weak and a disgrace.

Archangel got a reaction from husan in Fotosketcher 3.90 has just been released with new painting styles and script options
I have asked the author if he will provide the app as a plugin for Affinity Photo and he is willing to do so. He just needs the Affinity team to provide him with the information necessary to write the appropriate code to work with Photo. For me, it replaces the Instant Artist feature that was included with Photoplus, Serif's older graphics software.

It's not a plugin, it's a stand alone app.

From Fotosketcher web site:
"FotoSketcher is a 100% free program for Windows (there is also an experimental version for MacOS) which converts your digital photos into art automatically and in just a few mouse clicks. Over 20 different styles are available from pencil sketches to watercolor or oil paintings, pen & ink drawings, abstract art and cartoons. From photo to painting (landscapes, architecture, portraits, etc.) in seconds!
You can also improve your original photos with simple tools (enhance contrast, sharpen, simplify image, increase luminosity, color saturation etc…) and add simple or realistic frames and text.
For advanced users, some more powerful tools allow you to batch process several images, manually retouch some areas of your pictures, combine multiple filters and even create your own effects by using the script function.
FotoSketcher is completely free (even for commercial use, if you wish to sell your pictures) and does not contain any adware, spyware or virus. It runs on Microsoft Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1 and the latest Windows 10 (an experimental Mac version is also available from the download page)."
Tutorials are available on the website.
To be honest, I think it's quite valid to post this information here as a resource, as painting/drawing effects are something that has been asked about, but are quite difficult to create within the Affinity apps. Although this is a stand alone app, rather than a plugin, so are a number of other apps that have been mentioned in the forums, such as Vectorizer (which has been mentioned ad infinitum!)
I'd agree that a little more information might be nice for people who don't know about a particular item that is mentioned, but for those of us who use Fotosketcher, it's nice to be informed when there is a new update. 🙂

It's a great application. Been using it for years.

Archangel reacted to Bit Arts in Fotosketcher 3.90 has just been released with new painting styles and script options
It is software that can be used very creatively with Affinity or any other creative program, either as shown on the website or more cleverly, used for discrete effects. I've forgotten to use it for a few years, so thanks, I'm going to drag it into my work again.

Archangel got a reaction from William Overington in Poster of a poem in French
Perhaps, if you post a thumbnail of the poster so people do not have to download and open it to see it, you will get more responses. That way more people will be able to react to it without downloading.
Maybe like this?

This present thread will thrive only if forum members other than me post in it, otherwise it will drift away into the archive.

Archangel reacted to Alfred in What I use Affinity for.
So would I, for whatever it’s worth. Less negotiable is this apostrophe on the second page:
It’s plural, not possessive, so it should say
Also on that page:
I recommend changing the first one to “Negotiating”.
For a consistent punctuation style, you should replace
with
i.e. curly quotation marks instead of straight ones.

Archangel reacted to Athanasius Pernath in Variable fonts support
Version 1.8 of OpenType was released in 2016, it included Variable fonts. The feature is mature and widely used nowadays.
It would be great to have support for variable fonts.

Q&A
Is there a full manual I can purchase? No, this is all there is. Is this really free? Yes, I'm making it available free of charge. It's copyrighted to prevent others from publishing it as their own. Is there an iPad version? No, the steps and screenshots are for the macOS and Windows versions. Is there a version for Designer or Photo? No, but the text features are largely the same so you may find it useful. Why does it use a print layout if it's a PDF? It's a demonstration of how to use the features it describes to create a print book. Original version:
