Kind of odd as the Affinity Publisher 1.7 advertisement video does use a technique to achieve something similar to an out-dented initial capital.

Here is cloudy sky background in A3 portrait format I created in Affinity Photo and PhotoZoom Pro 7. Useful as a textured background in Publisher, and I'm guessing Affinity Designer. It is at 300dpi and in PNG format stored in a 7z archive. I hope you find it useful. Cloudy Sky (resized).7z Smaller sample also included.

I toyed with that idea too but it felt like a half measure when dealing with the textual integrity of the piece. However, that method would have allowed me to group the items together and use the alignment of the group for automatic centring. All methods fall short of an ideal solution and perhaps adding a Drop Cap in margin function would be a useful suggestion for a feature enhancement in a future release. Thank you for the link.

With thanks to everybody who helped on the forum with how to out dent Dropped Caps, here is my latest layout in Affinity Publisher. I used the Manual Optical Alignment facility to achieve the out-dent effect. On the downside this affects the ability of the alignment function to centre the text frame automatically so it has to be adjusted by eye only. I Am a Good Boy I Am.pdf

I have been experimenting with drop caps in my poetry layouts and like the possibilities it offers. However, is it possible to have a Drop Cap out-dented from a paragraph or text body style so that it appears as though it is in a margin only?

I have attempted to lay out my Higher Functioning Autistic Spectrum Communication Guide on Affinity Publisher. The results are interesting. I love the control this package gives me over typography and the excellent column guides facility. I hope you like the results although I still have a lot to learn. Added a slight edit to give the poetry a separate demarcation on page two. I used the rectangle tool with reduced opacity and placed the rectangle behind that particular column. I was surprised to find that the 'send to back' function actually sent the rectangle behind the layers which were on the Master Pages and not just on the current page. So I had to send it back one layer instead. I'm used to a slightly different functionality on PagePlus but I'm sure I'll adapt. Aspergers Information.pdf

I would like to see Affinity Publisher handle more text file formats on import. Particularly useful would be Open Document and Word Perfect text formats.

Affinity products for Linux
Archangel replied to a topic in Feedback for the V1 Affinity Suite of Products
I remember it from the days of the Amiga. The only Professional DTP package really worth having on that platform and along with Typesmith it was a very nice product. -
affinity publisher Dancing With the Psychotherapist

Nice work with a very good background. I like it very much. Recreating the following may be a little more difficult though. -
Here is my latest Affinity Publisher effort. A poem called Leela. Exported as a PNG. The title was created in PagePlus X9 and exported as a 32 bit PNG. One of the features Affinity Publisher lacks is this sort of font filled effect so I have to cheat a little. I hope you like it ...

affinity publisher Dancing With the Psychotherapist

Sorry, If you mean the Affinity Publisher phrase with reflection then that wasn't done in Affinity Publisher. That was achieved in Serif PagePlus X9 using instant 3D. However, you can export these designs from PagePlus X9 as PNG files with transparency and use them in Serif's new range of applications. The title of the poem simply uses Artistic Text and Layer Effects outer shadow and emboss to achieve the pillow look. -
Okay this is the first time I've used Affinity Publisher to layout a poem without first laying it out in PagePlus X9. It works quite well and I love the easier access to the typographical controls in Publisher. Here is my 'Dancing With the Psychotherapist' poem. Dancing With the Psycotherapist.pdf

Affinity Publisher to be launched at Affinity Live
Archangel replied to Ash's topic in News and Information
No footnotes and endnotes support yet. No Mesh warp except through Photo Persona, No Instant 3D, No Preflight Check or proofreader or grammar checker, No story editor, No Book Plus equivalent, No material style layer effects, and definitely no e-publishing. But I agree that Affinity Publisher is a very good product indeed. -
Affinity products for Linux
Archangel replied to a topic in Feedback for the V1 Affinity Suite of Products
I believe PageStream is still available on Linux although I don't think it has kept up with other professional DTP packages. Scribus may be the best bet in the long term for DTP. Powerful but lack a decent user interface design. Inkscape for Vectors with similar interface issues, GIMP is looking better these days but is RGB only, Krita is excellent compared to Corel Painter for quality purposes and of course LibreOffice is very good for office software if a little slow. Open BSD could be a good alternative for Serif to look at as Mac OS is based on a form of BSD. That might make it possible to port to a Unix clone which is used professionally but I'm not sure the customer base would make it worthwhile. -
Does anyone know how long Affinity applications will be supported on Windows 7 in the future considering Microsoft will soon be terminating their long term support for the operating system next year [2020]? There will be a point when we will all have to upgrade to Windows 10 or change platform completely but for many users Windows 7 still performs very well indeed.

My latest poem Phoenix Rising using Affinity Publisher and Affinity Photo to create the layout. I used PagePlus X9 to create the title using filter fx and preset styles and exported it as a 32bit PNG. Then I placed the image onto the page in Affinity Publisher, although the colours are slightly different.
